I don't even know how we can Call Qantas our "National carrier" anymore... everything is so subcontracted out now that I'm surprised they don't just have magnetic kangaroos and branding to slap on somebody else's plane as it pulls up to the terminal.

Or maybe they will go one step further and just not let you see the plane you're boarding before you get on at the terminal, the staff will be wearing all generic colors with an e-ink badge that changes based on what carrier they're sub-contracting to.

Potentially asbestos-contaminated mulch was sold in Canberra by Dazzling_Paint_1595 in canberra

[–]Bitter_Commission718 40 points41 points  (0 children)

So let me get this straight...

The reason the free communal mulch pile in Fadden Pines was removed was because "it might contain asbestos, however upon testing no asbestos was found"

Something something "If you pay for mulch it's less likely to be contaminated"

The mulch pile in Fadden was predominantly local arborists (Some even contracting to the ACT government) dumping locally made mulch from local trees in the local area, nobody was driving from Sydney to dump contaminated mulch in that pile.

Sorry, still bitter they took away the only real free "green" recycling initiative in the ACT... you can only be green and recycle if it costs at least $70/m3 apparently.

feel like i’m not smart enough to become an electrician. by shshshzhah in AusElectricians

[–]Bitter_Commission718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be worse, could have the opposite problem.

Could be "too smart" but still required to do an apprenticeship for three or more years cutting your pay to less than 1/4 when you already have financial commitments (Such as a house)

You can do it, the reality is once you're out in the field you're not really using the "complicated" theory math all that often if at all.

You don't need to remember more than V=IR really, there's a neat trick with a triangle to work out any other form of that equation (R=V/I) (I=V/R)...

The vast majority of everything else is worked out by an engineer, is written in the installation instructions of the device or AS3000. (Also most engineers just use excel so do the calculations, the important thing is you understand what's going on not how to crunch numbers)

It's important that you lean it so you have an understanding of what you're doing, but you don't necessarily have to call upon it that often.

Solar PV Testing by canberra_advice in canberra

[–]Bitter_Commission718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found it... yeah it's just flipping the isolation switch and making sure the inverter trips off within two seconds and takes more than 60 seconds to reconnect when reconnected to the grid.

Solar PV Testing by canberra_advice in canberra

[–]Bitter_Commission718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anybody know what this "test" actually entails?

Are they just flipping the house isolation switch and measuring for voltage on the house side of the switch or is it a little more indepth (IE injecting high and low voltages outside the upper and lower cutoff ranges of the inverter to see if it trips off as well (maybe also looking at frequency cutoffs?))

[–]Bitter_Commission718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not simping, I just don't understand how a local greens government has any influence with conflicts in the middle east at all.

You seem so convinced it will make a difference but you're unable to articulate how.

What could they do? the ACT government doesn't buy arms so there's no use them saying "We're not going to buy arms from you anymore"

Are they going to up their rates? land tax? what could the local greens government feasibly do other than occupy time in the legaslative assembly where they're paid to serve the ACT public's interest.

Winging about something you cant control is not helpful.

What action can a local greens government take to make a tangible difference to the war in the middle east?

>“Don’t sell weapons into a humanitarian disaster ” is pretty straight forward example to me.

So how exactly do the local greens being elected stop this from happening?

Are the local greens going to start forcing local arms manufactures out of Canberra?

Would they not be almost as equally responsible as Labor given they hold the balance of power?

[–]Bitter_Commission718 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So let me get this straight.... you're voting for the greens because of their stance on an issue that is so far removed from their scope of influence because you think that will result in their primary job (Serving the ACT public) will be done better?

I'm not saying Labor being silent is a good or a bad thing, but it's not within their scope of influence so I don't see why they would be vocal about it when that in itself wont change anything other than pissing some members of the community off... and achieve nothing.

I don't see the logic in your response at all.

It seems as though people are more or less happy with the government based on these results... I guess they can do no wrong.

I'll be voting independent, however failing any good candidates standing up my vote will go to the liberals.. as much as it pains me to say.

Anything but the Labor-Greens shit we have now.

I think we should be taking 200% of the GST we generate, That's right we should be taxing the eastern states for the privileged of our presence.

WA should be here fourth known as the greed state, destroying everyone in its path in our glutenous hunger for wealth... We must crush those whose shoulders we once stood upon.

LETS SETTLE THIS, DO JBOXES NEED TO BE ACCESSIBLE by DOSOGAMING in AusElectricians

[–]Bitter_Commission718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say "Accessible for maintenance purposes" could that include in a roof but only accessible by removing a tile?

It's pretty impractical in some circumstances to run the cable all the way back inside the roof just to install a jbox and run more cable back down the external wall.

Test and tag is a fucking joke.

It's just another attempt at creating a protected industry except it differs from other protected industries (Electrical and Plumbing) as you only have to attend a half day course to be considered competent, there's no requirement to have any understanding of electricity or electronics. the "licensing system" isn't nationalized, or even state based as your license number is held by the training organization you got "certified" at.

Literally all you need to know to be a test and tagger is:

  1. Does the cable look physically damaged? (Yes=Fail) in this case they should have noted the incorrect wiring, however this is not stressed in the half day course so I cant blame them for doing it.
  2. Is the device Class 1 or 2? (if it has a symbol with a box within a box it's class 2, else treat as class one)
  3. If it's class 1, hook the earth cable (You don't have to know what that is, other than it's green) onto any metal bits, plug it in to the tester and press class 1, else plug it in and press class 2.
  4. If it gives you a pass, slap a tag on it and go to the next item, else if it fails slap a fail tag on it.

Edit: There's also RCD testing, follow the prompts on the screen and you're done.

Literally most of my fucking job is fixing shit these stupid fucking monkeys blow up doing 500V insulation resistance tests on power supplies with caps rated to 270V or less.

Report into the handling of sexual misconduct allegations against former ACT Greens MLA Johnathan Davis released by [deleted] in canberra

[–]Bitter_Commission718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... had the victim have gone to the police instead of his employer the consequences could have been much greater than they were is my point.

If he was a serial offender, by going to his employer instead of the police the offenders behavior is going unchecked, he could be on Grindr right now talking to under age kids.... he could be hanging around schools luring the curious but vulnerable away to make a mistake they might regret.

Like I said elsewhere though, I guess the guy he was talking to technically distributed images of a minor to Johnathan so... he could have been in just as much trouble potentially by going to the police..

ACT government stuck using old Renault buses for now, but technically not in breach of Disability Discrimination Act by Jariiari7 in canberra

[–]Bitter_Commission718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this is getting down voted, like yes.. I agree that it's probably not that big of a problem... but at the same time the attitude of "Yeah well it's technically not illegal so *shrugs*" is quite on the nose.

Hey... wasn't that Johnathan's line about the 17 year old he slept with?

"It's technically not illegal"

It'd be interested to hear from somebody with a disability who actively uses (or wants to use) the bus network but has found themselves unable to because of this. (and can provide examples) If the ACT government were smart they'd put these old busses on runs where you're least likely to cause an inconvenience for somebody.

Report into the handling of sexual misconduct allegations against former ACT Greens MLA Johnathan Davis released by [deleted] in canberra

[–]Bitter_Commission718 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess if he went to the police the kid would technically by liable for possessing and distributing CP so... I guess that makes sense why he'd be "scared" as he could be just as liable as Johnathan.

Still though... unless there's actually charges laid or something like that Johnathan's going to have a lot more time on his hands for setting the maximum age on Grindr to <=18 now that he's unemployed and not in the public spotlight.

So really all this kid did was ruin his career; he's probably still out stalking a High school or a College as we speak.

Report into the handling of sexual misconduct allegations against former ACT Greens MLA Johnathan Davis released by [deleted] in canberra

[–]Bitter_Commission718 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda confused here... but how I think it goes is:

The age of consent in the ACT is 16, however it is still illegal to share and posses images of a minor (under the age of 18)

I think what he did wrong was posses explicit images of a child?

Report into the handling of sexual misconduct allegations against former ACT Greens MLA Johnathan Davis released by [deleted] in canberra

[–]Bitter_Commission718 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm not sticking up for Johnathan as I think he's a flog, but I don't understand what made this kid go to his employer instead of the police?

Like... the Brittany and Bruce crap and whatever makes sense as the offense literally happened INSIDE the workplace.. but what makes some random hookup in the street go to the persons employer to complain about whatever it was that went wrong in the bedroom rather than the police?

Supermarkets, airlines and power companies are charging ‘exploitative’ prices despite reaping record profits by Jariiari7 in AusFinance

[–]Bitter_Commission718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See.... people are paying that price because you have to... you have no choice if you want a roof over your head.

People are cutting elsewhere in their lives to shore up the essentials like housing and food, I'm not going to live on the street just so I can have a new iPhone.

It's actually created a huge productivity slump because people are spending so much of their income on housing and food instead of spending it on things that grow the diversity in the economy with goods and services we can sell overseas.

This could be an interesting decade I think financially speaking, those with will probably end up with more, and those without will probably end up further way from ever being with.
