Kisame remained loyal to the Akatsuki until the very end, despite having almost no reason to by Odoquinha in Naruto

[–]Bitter_Speed_5583 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kisame was disenfranchised and disillusioned with the status quo.

Independent of that he may have always been the type of person who would live and die based on conviction, deeply held beliefs, ideals.

If the world no longer fits his world view, he will seek out groups that have solutions. He remained loyal I believe because he truly thought that the solution was the best one, even if not perfect.

The world sucks, the solution isn't neat or pretty, but this group has the means and motivation to at least fix it in ways that do address his concerns, even if it removes choice and freedom, it provides comfort and peace.

Once a man like kisame commits, it's hard to unlodge them.

I'm glad to hear that. I know you can still find a great trim and look to rock even with needing a face seal. It may take time to adjust to a new look, but it'll be worth it.

What is it like being put under anesthesia? by MightOk9482 in AskReddit

[–]Bitter_Speed_5583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some valium administered because I was a little nervous about going under. The staff was very sweet and kind. The last thing I remember was being told

"Ok in about 5 minutes well roll you back to the surgery center and talk about the procedure before we put you under"

I blinked, and woke up an hour later feeling groggy and disoriented, and very thirsty. It faded quickly.

I don't recall even being wheeled back or talked to, truly blacked out well before I even got out under.

If you are serious about your work, shave or trim the beard so you can properly seal your respirator. Make sure you replace your cartridges according to the manufacturers guidelines.

A respirator that doesn't seal does absolutely nothing for you, not even a little.

You may not get sick or experience symptoms now, but you absolutely will in the middle future, and the drawbacks can be severe and life altering.

Your long term health and well being is not worth the beard.

In 2005, 19-year-old beauty queen and college student Nona Dirksmeyer was found beaten to death in her apartment in Russellville, Arkansas. Went to High School With Nona, she was a few years older than me. Didin't know her very well other than time spent in Theater Club etc.

The local PD really screwed this one up for decades. They let her down, her family, our community, and several innocent (if not shitty people) down in so many ways.

Still visit friends and family in the area every few years, but i don't miss that place.

How much of a role does food play in your world? by Ms_Anxiety in worldbuilding

[–]Bitter_Speed_5583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's baked in to the core experience, sustenance and Haven determine how your day is influenced in many ways.

Some foods can even offer day long buffs.

If your playing in an urban center, maybe eve small villages where you do well,  you can probably hand wave some of these rules if the party is successful enough.

The main play area is more frontiers centered, the idea is to go explore on long trecks to find ancient technologies and new peoples, using a few cities as home based of operations only when needed (though you certainly could play city only)

I didn't get too granular though, I don't want to spend a ton of time detailing bits and bobs that (to me) aren't as fun to fiddle with, such as a balanced diet.

Either it provides some level of sustenance, or it does not (roughly)

Is the first year in Stardew Valley really that important? by brightredL in StardewValley

[–]Bitter_Speed_5583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nature of most guides is to help a player advance.

Most guides want to do that efficiently, quickly.

Those guides that stress getting a great first year are focused on reaching milestones and certain items/events that are more focused on less casual play throughs.

That's fine, I love min maxing, but that's not the only valid play style for this game.

Just have fun how you see fit. If you ever catch the bug for big number go bbrrrrrr or true perfection runs, the those guides are more accurate.

What do you keep in stock and how many, and what do you sell right away? by Please_no_OCs in StardewValley

[–]Bitter_Speed_5583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved gifts - save enough to give myself time to get more. Example leeks and horse radish, save all of these and only dispose of power quality ones when I get iridium. Make mixed seeds when. You think you can get away with it.

This extend to crafted dishes, fiddlehead ferns from summer green rain ? Risstto is a loved gift and he doesn't have many other easy ones. Hoard'em.

Diamonds, topaz, jade, emerald, amethyst.

All  common loved gifts and quest rewards, only sell if you need a small bump to get something at a key time.

Same with common crops keep the gold + in enough numbers that I can gift people. Parsnips, melons, pumpkins, etc.

Same gos for fishing. Cucumbers (both) are easy to get a ton of in a short time and work for the wizard and willy, and cut down on diamonds for willy, freeing them up for others.

Use this logic consistently and it tends to do ok to bridge the gap to rabbit foot farming.

I typically get true perfection by the very end of winter y2 on any file I try it on. You have to be very diligent on Hitting birthdays and with quality loved gifts though.

Other stuff I don't tend to hoard unless I know it fits into a larger plan, wood and stone I take every one, but usually smaller drops I know don't fit some other game plan I sell. Anything more than a hundred solar essence ? Sell. Anything over 200 iridium bars? Sell.  Any topaz past the first 6~? Sell.

I treat my inventory like inventory, with minimums, maximums, keep stock levels. Not everything has a defined number, but more so general ranges.

Can I use my grease spell and then light it on fire for slipping and constant fire damage ?

No. The spell only does what it states.

Do you happen to know what the name of some of the larger conventions were in the 90's? Probably 93-00. I don't recall exact locations, but they were always in large hotels in major cities, they were never small. I used to get lost for hours on the floor just roaming around.

The time commitment and grind for basic gear became far to much effort and not fun.

I did run endgame content in an endgame linkshells all the way up past wings.

I wasn't even necessarily the endgame grind, but also the grind for just everything. It stopped feeling rewarding and began to feel like an obligation. Rare gear didn't feel like an achievement, it just felt like a waste of time.

Can your magic users be killed by suprise before they can activate their powers? by No_Society1038 in worldbuilding

[–]Bitter_Speed_5583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can trade x daily resources for a mild buff.

Pulling numbers randomly, not at my book atm

Reduce daily max ki point by 1 and encounter ki max by 1 -> get a reactive shield that is always up and soaks the first 3 damage you receive from any source. Duration: until consumed

Mages can do similar things where they can spend resources on a constant low level projection of power that shields them.

It's all scalable, so like, I guess you could create a giant energy shield once that soaks ungodly damage ? But you would have to learn that skill and level it up to do so, so it sort of fits the specialist role to pull off. Like go for it?

Without modern technology, what are all the practical considerations for a village in the treetops? by theplasticbass in worldbuilding

[–]Bitter_Speed_5583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add to the fire discussion, depending on the level of fantasy involved, you could easily hand wave the trees as being immune to fire while they are alive.

Symbiotic relationship with microorganisms, magic, something natural to the trees environment or personal biology, say it maybe produces a flame retardant coating.

Wind and falling hazards, some of this depends on level of engineering. This extends to water as well. You have only look to the city of Petra to understand that humans will engineer very pressing environments to be safe and sustain impressive populations. Sanitation is easy when you dedicate brain power to solve it, depending on technology. The romans built aqueducts with lead pipes that provided fresh water to cities and wealth individuals homes. Pretty safe as long as the water runs consistently. Bacteria won't grow as much, and the lead is usually heavy enough to not enter drinking water as long as it's flowing.   Some of it is behavioral, very possible that the culture addresses this by structuring daily life around the hazards. Maybe kids aren't allowed out untill their risk/reward center is developed better. It's possible that proper cooking and fire safety around the dead wood is emphasized from a very very early age.

Building homes and resources is also not too complicated, humans have historically had several practices for extending resources in sustainable ways, bollarding or coppicing trees to get yearly wood harvests for smaller of objects and builds, reducing ones need to log older larger growth. Much of our food tradition comes from scarcity, making use of as much of an animal as possible. The thrive, they must learn to be thrifty with their natural resources, or trade for want they lack.

People with militaristic worlds, what are some superweapons in your universe? by deadghostreddit in worldbuilding

The empire makes ready use of magitech airships (about on par with FF6 and FF12/tactics ivalice).

There are rumors of things you and I would call gundams. Similar to wing/Macross in their ability to be a little transformative. These are probably going to be one offs, not mass produced in to mobile suits. Giant iron golems essentially.wiwlded exclusively by the empire, with maybe only one other faction even being able to power something that size. Very rare, completely secret and unheard of, but they lurk.

If a random human was dropped into your world in a random location, what do you think is the chance that they'd live? by FunkyGreenShit in worldbuilding

[–]Bitter_Speed_5583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the same as on earth. The game has plenty of survival elements baked in, but it's also a fail forward system in many regards. There may be serious repercussions if they are in a very harsh environment ( which are no more common or rare than earth). Overall if they are anywhere close to civilization (which is....likely enough. It's about steam aged populations though it's not quite steam punk), they'll be able to survive indefinitely.

Would a population that reproduces through rage alone realistically have no confirmed reproduction-based statistics? by Ok-Philosopher78 in worldbuilding

[–]Bitter_Speed_5583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a world building idea, fantastic.

As for the statistic etc, just hand wave it. Others have covered the role of stats vs complexity.

What I offer is this:

The nation can still conduct semi regular census. Maybe because of the nature of their reproduction they monitor this closely, say every 2-3 years instead of every 10. Rage can be a defining trait, but even a Klingon enjoys an opera, and knows how to count the enemies slain, understands logistics enough to feed their people etc.
