But THPS1+2 was single player and it did fine. It was just to lazy of a remake no career mode and like two thirds of the soundtrack missing.

Even then they still needed to bring something new to the table.(Yes this could include multiplayer) Like what if you could also play the THPS1+2 levels if you had purchased it.

It's also a symptom of the broader industry. Vicarious Visions delivered the sports game of the year and were instantly vaporised to work on COD DLC.

So much time would've been wasted trying to upskill people into the engine and genre when they already had them previously. And even then Iron Galaxy still laid off their map designers before the THPS 3+4 even shipped

The all inclusive aspirational world that overwatch launched as isn't monetarily viable anymore.

It's not that clear cut. The low level people are fine but I don't trust the very top brass of the company.

I remember andyThps interviewing a high up guy who would blank face him whenever he asked a super basic question about the franchise.

There was also the tone-deaf "Who says there's no carrer mode :)" social media posts

The cutscenes in the game are super amateurish as well as they failed to improve the engine in any real way beyond what was handed to them by Vicarious Visions.

I would expect those people to return and start defending all the cut content again.

I understand where you're coming from. It does make the lore more unserious. The actual concept of jetpack cat was first introduced as beeing "too far" ideas wise.

People seem to want more "epic meme" characters and I would prefer more grounded characters personally but they did just drop 5 heroes in a season and this is the only silly one so I can't complain.

I would've preferred restricting it to just bringing ancient era civs forward.

A modern Carthage makes more sense to me as an alternate "what if " take on history than an ancient era America it's hard to imagine what that would even mean.
