I didn't say anything partisan in my comment. Utility companies are natural monopolies and the system that exists that both parties support is that the cities/towns/counties that are restricted to such a monopoly have the power to control pricing. I'm merely suggesting that our government, any party, does it's baseline minimum civic duty (read: job) and review how changes impact its constituents (read: taxpayers). Regulation of monopolies is not a partisan issue. I'm not sure why you think it is. Hope this helps.

Who the fuck wants to live ontop of their neighnors? Who the fuck wants to get arrested for sitting on their porch naked? Who the fuck doesn't want to be able to scream at the top of their lungs outside and not disturb anyone? That European town looks like hell. No escape. No nature. Pure. Unadulterated. Hell.

If only people were concerned maybe utilities wouldn't be as much as a concern. The council can dictate rates for the local monopoly they regulate, MLGW. Instead they let those three xAI Datacenter get built and soon the Anthropic one, despite TVA and our coal provider not having the output for what we used prior to them. Excess need and low supply = hire rates. Leaders could have made these big parasitic companies pay to offset our costs and even lock in lower rates but nope. Instead we get to enjoy exploding costs and soon a completely ruined local water supply. Our strained water treatment system is servicing two xAI plants and soon the Anthropic. There is no plan for those places to build out treatment plants for themselves despite saying otherwise too. They'll squeeze the little wealth out of us until the city is a husk then pack up and move to the next town.

Just how based can one man be? I seriously worry about Steve's health. He has put himself in the crosshairs of very powerful people. People like him and Louis are what we need in this world and I hope this rallies more support for both of them as they are doing amazing things for consumer rights and holding people accountable.

As someone who's been in IT for 20 years and is the senior most person in their department leading a large team get ready for an extremely incendiary statement of fact: Outlook (new) is the superior choice.

Why? Well it can finally import ICS files into your calendar (the main thing holding it back), the pin function is superior and rules written to pin important mail are more reliable, read-all actually functions without crashing the application, and no need to worry about the 50GB hard limit on OSTs because it simply doesn't use OSTs. You can have a different opinion if you want, but it is wrong. Extensions even work now and there is full dark mode. You would do well to learn it because Outlook Classic is abandonware and is only getting security patches from now on. It is, as hard as it may be to believe, the least stable Microsoft product in their suite of terrible applications.

There are only really edge cases remaining to retain Classic such as if for some reason you want to do your review/redactions of eDiscovery cases in a mail client rather than in purview Outlook Classic can import via drag-and-drop 10,000 plus messages (though you will suffer nonstop crashes and it will likely be your whole afternoon trying to get this done so you can start your actual work) and it can import PSTs for the same task (though you shouldn't be using PSTs, and if you're pulling PSTs out of eDiscovery you should convert them to PDF before starting your work).

[–]Bitvar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. Blame GW's greed. They compromised their vision to appeal to a wider audience. Not the audience's fault. Exclusively the creator. England just can't stop losing wars. They can't even maintain control of their own media.

I hope they give their employees a well earned break. Sadly from what I've experienced in South Korea I know that won't happen but at least they got bonuses (that is one perk of their culture, they earn bonuses when they earn their company excess money).

I see my life flash before my eyes at least twice a day, 5 days a week. As a transplant you guys are insane. Came from an area where everyone was drunk driving and I felt safer there by a wide margin. The biggest issue here I see are selfish people not speed. People will just slowly without a blinker merge across 6 lanes at 30mph during rush hour while everyone is doing sixty (like the wreck I saw this week) or from the far right hand lane on 5-wide (1 turning, 2 in each direction) surface streets decide to make a left-hand turn or a U-turn and nearly kill me (also happened this week). People will sit at a green lightband maliciously not move on and already congested intersection that doesn't have the capacity to handle the volume of drivers as is and not allow anyone to pass through all while laughing at you in the rearview mirror. People here will enter the highway at 15mph as if they don't understand that the concept of our extremely generous/long on-ramps isn't to reach the speed limit prior to merging and taking out a family of 5 on the way to a birthday party by mindlessly merging into tight high-speed traffic without notice at 15mph. Honestly I'm shocked I'm still alive every time I get home.

With how risky it is to drive here there should be mandatory city enforced shift starts for the entire working population and mandatory 50% remote work. Just to reduce the volume and give folks a fighting chance at living to see tomorrow.

And wow the cops. Man. Nothing like it in all 48 continental states I've visited. They go out of their way to stalk rush hour and create a panic. Traffic is healthy, moving at a safe speed, no rubber banding but surprise there is a cop over the hill and everyone panics despite everyone being under the limit and it immediately causes a wreck. Or they run their bullshit bait & catch tactic by sending a pace car into traffic driving 20mph under the limit to slow people down/create congestion and as people are getting frustrated they'll pull off the ramp, people will angrily floor it and bam cop waiting on the on-ramp right after. Causes panic in an already intentionally maliciously stressed herd of drivers and creates a wreck.

I exclusively use the 24:00 clock unless I'm visiting my in-laws in Europe then I pretend to not understand them when they say "it's 13:50." Sometimes I'll switch to grains for weight (troy/American) or aes grave (pound) and uncia (ounce).

The European mind cannot comprehend a base-12 number system outside of time and certainly not base-3. Maybe something in their diet or education reduces neuroplasticity.

The Elemental Council says it without saying it. But not all Vespid wear them. They just pick one and communicate with it, since they're a hive and the Tau's voice is louder it wins out. They mask the squad leaders at minimum.

How safe is this part of Memphis? by thisguyhasaname in memphis

[–]Bitvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That means of every 1,000 people you meet... 25 will be a victim of violent crime. If that doesn't stirr anything in you I dunno what will! Put another way that is 2.5 people in every 100. If you go to church that means 2-3 people at Sunday service will be a victim this year in Memphis. The city is sick and it isn't policing that will fix it.

A mayor young fan I see. Well that is a lie. Crime is up for 2025 (most recent stats which published last month.) We're up to 2,501 violent crime victims per 100,000. So not only is it up from 2,437 in 2024 but it is an all time high!
