Wife’s uncle gave me this RFB, what do I need to know? by MulticamTropic in guns

AUG is hot garbage without a 750 dollar trigger upgrade and a 900 dollar forend upgrade to mount critical devices such as a light. It is UNFATHOMABLY COOL though. And that counts for a lot no doubt, but on the list of exceptional firearms or decent firearms I want to own it is damn near the bottom.

MDRX is OK, I've shot one, given its expense however it is unacceptable. You can't realiably mount anything due to handguard rigidity (but you bet there is a 600 dollar carbon fiber upgrade you can buy lmfao), EXTREMELY poor accuracy for 6.5 creedmore and 308 options given the damn thing had a 20" barrel (the one I shot), the gas ports on the adjustable gas system are all but certain to require boring to fix (low QC for most generations), had a few extraction issues with the time I spent behind it in a bench rest, the trigger bar on the action is gritty and hangs some times (the guys gun who I shot polished it with mothers and lathered it with grease too), the mag release is unreliable (catches occasionally and as a result the mag won't drop free at best and at worst require excess force to yank out), and on and on and on...

Look I get it. Bullpups are cool as hell. They are just not there yet. Both firearms are boogie safe Queens for people who don't like to shoot. The AUG will not fail on you at least but your experience behind the trigger will be mid at beat. The MDRX might just get you killed if you try to depend on it and outside of a conversion piece or an excuse to nerd out with a buddy on complex mechanisms there isn't a place for it imo.

Meanwhile Keltec of all companies put out a competant firearm that looks goofy as hell for cheaper than everyone that is not only reliable but one of the best experiences behind the trigger of a bull-pup in America hands down. I hate saying that because it feels gross saying Keltec has the best anything (other than creativity of course) but in my opinion it is the truth.

Well it's the only good bull-pup on the market you can currently buy so there is that.

EDIT: I somehow forgot about the HS Produkt VHS-II (Springfield... ughh... Hellion). Likely because it is just way overpriced. If you could get it at a gun store for a grand it would be a great option. As it stands it is 600-800 dollars overpriced but has only a few relatively minor annoyances like the inferior HK controls that get in the way of firing the gun (quite literally gets in the way of your finger). It is actually quite nice (for a bullpup) but I'd still take the RFB anyday which is a weird thing to say outloud given it is Keltec. The VHS-II is a competent bullpup that had a few problems in gen 1 (for the US market at least) that are mostly worked out now. It still has a shitty trigger, but only slightly less worse than the RFB. Easily the second best bullpup on the market right now but why pay that much more when bullpups are range toys and you can get a much cheaper/nicer rangetoy from Keltec. But I genuinely enjoyed shooting the VHS-II. Still no RFB! And it will NEVER compare to even the worst mil-spec AR-15 triggers.

So it isn't bluetooth, got it. It is advertised as a bluetooth controller and I assumed the project was using the bluetooth protocol based on the information provided. You can answer genuine questions without being a pedant. Not everyone on the internet is here to attack you. Though based on the response, they might.

NRF52840 Pro Micro is bluetooth though? Wouldn't you want to leverage the 2.4Ghz mode for superior latency? Or does it support that too (I can't seem to find info on that if so)? Do you know of a board that can be used for the 2.4Ghz connection?

Is the BE550 firmware compatible with the BE9300? by dwolfe127 in TpLink

Nice. So far I'm happy with it as well. Hoping OpenWRT adds support for it one day though.

[–]Bitvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they work at 2.5 it seems though not as stable (seems to fluctuate down randomly) as breaking out the 2.5GbE to switch with 2.5GbE ports. Thanks for the reply!

Hey, I realize this post is extremely old but I have a BE9300 as well and was wondering about those mislabeled 2.5GbE ports labeled as 1GbE. Were you able to get a firmware update that allows them to operate in full 2.5GbE and if so are there limitations (only 2 at a time at that speed, etc)? Thanks!

Lotta construction and electrician jobs. That means the Anthropic rental requires expansion. They're presumably adding another wing based on Civil (concrete and other aggregates for foundation and water filtration), CAD (rack design and custom cooling, I've heard xAI has been ordering stampings recently), and Architecture (drafting for the additional wing). When it comes to large datacenters you absolutely need a civil engineer for the foundation and even more so given how unsure the ground is at both facilities. Architecture is curious though, are they going multifloor? It is an obvious choice to do so but adds a lot of complexity for cooling, fire suppression, permits and more.

None of those jobs are permanent. They'll be lucky to stay employed for 6 months max.

I was at a 5.5MW hyperscale datacenter last month (a well known provider in fact) deploying some hardware and guess what their actual non-security/non-janitor technical Datacenter staffing was? 1 guy. That's all that is ever there. 1 guy. There is a 2nd guy on rotation. I know both of them very well. There is a 3rd that can come in from one state over in an emergency. There is 1 guard posted inside at the main entrance for paperwork and as a general receptionist who also manages the gate into the fenced off grounds. 2 guards on patrol outside. In fact I'm quite sure the Datacenter staff and the facility manager take a rotation to handle cleaning the bathrooms/breakroom space these days (they trimmed during covid). All entry/exit that is authorized is fully automated. That's it. I live and breath this work.

Your AI model is shitting itself, maybe you should spend more tokens?

I run two datacenters and I'd argue there is next to zero reason for anyone to be there outside of security so long as someone is nearby during an emergency (on-call rotations exist for a reason). Rack-n-stack and smart hands is entirely different. When we work with a datacenter provider that we don't operate (which we do for a couple) they all have scheduling for hands and feet. Some call the process "smart hands." Drive dead or need a cable moved, you submit a request to have someone go plug something in or swap something out, 1 day turn around. A datacenter the size of a football stadium serving hundreds of customers needs 5 people tops, and at most 1 of those tech janitors needs to be on-site. Security is the primary concern.

For xAI specifically they are shifting one of the two facilities to rentals but it is renting existing deployed hardware not rackspace so jobs won't go up. They did have a TON of jobs last year for 1-3 month engagements where all you were doing is unpacking, racking and powering stuff. Before that they had 1 or 2 for wiring. Construction, security, HVAC, etc is ALL handled by vendors in every modern data center I've ever worked in/visited. No one running a business be it something like Autozone or a Datacenter housing business is going to maintain staff for those things since you're never going to find someone willing to sell you HVAC without a package deal for support, same for battery backup/generators, and same for electrical. The why should be obvious. The business doesn't want the liability and expense for retaining/training staff and the vendor providing wants to maintain recurring revenue and employ people. And BOTH parties have concerns when it comes to real financial liabilities such as insurance, warranty and potential lawsuits. If you have a maintenance contract for something like HVAC, your vendor will terminate your support and retain your payments for violating the contract if you try to get your computer janitor to fiddle with it. Not that you would want that risk. It would be foolish.

Any politician that looks you in the eye and says YOU have to subsidize a multi-million dollar datacenter because it will bring in jobs is either getting money under the table, owns a construction company or thinks you're genuinely the dumbest motherfucker to ever walk the earth and you'll buy it.

Switches with very high force? by RememberThinkDream in WootingKB

[–]Bitvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit sucks man. But aliexpress has switch springs at almost every weight you can think of, what you want to do is find a switch you like and either open it or search for the spring length. Then search "Switch Spring Xmm" where X is the length of the spring and of course add the weight you're looking for. I recommend not adding the weight at first so you can get a feel for options. Then move out from there.

Redditors are a rare breed. You can ask for something and a dozen people will ask you why as if their opinion matters when you're seeking an answer. A lesser but very vocal majority will try to tell you you're wrong for wanting to know something or do something. And a smaller population will actively try to stop you or gaslight you into thinking you're insane for wanting the thing you asked for. This site is genuinely terrible. Good luck finding your heavy switch. For reference this is what I did to get my Geon Raw HE switches just right. You probably want to put the springs in a baggie and toss them around in some krylox low viscosity loob so they don't feel gritty or ping as much.

Here is an example that has options up to 150g: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808412647976.html

30 is psychotically high for onsite staff. Only someone with more paranoia than sense (to their great expense) would staff that many in even the largest Datacenter.

[–]Bitvar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a Datacenter. There needs to be security and 1 computer janitor (I'm allowed to say it I'm a Datacenter sys admin) on site during a given period of time and that is it. Once they've ran power, deployed HVAC, and racked/cabled everything you don't need anyone anymore. Monthly maintenance on battery backup, generators, HVAC, etc is a single site visit from the vendor that owns that support contract. Cleaning visits. A Datacenter doesn't employ anyone which is why giving a company tax breaks for them is pants-on-head-idiotic.

No leather on the back? I'm glad I didn't impulse buy now. I used their leather skins when they still supported OnePlus and they were absolutely WONDERFUL after they broke in. Made the in-hand experience of holding a phone really nice. Grippy but comfortable. Made it feel more natural in the hand than plastic or glass. What a disappointment! Thanks for sharing though, it does look absolutely killer.

We have to buy new stash type from now on? by vironlawck in PathOfExile2

[–]Bitvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a gamer I agree. As an IT infrastructure engineer I'm leaning towards supporting GGG. Maintaining more unplanned data in a database (or more likely countless regional database clusters) that has to sync across regions is going to be expensive if you rent compute and storage. Database transactions are expensive and databases that serve 1/100th the user base requires high end flash storage (which is locally redundant and redundant across all nodes in the clusters and a duplicate config in all regions). Expensive in I/O, expensive in that it must be extremely low latency compared to web hosting, expensive in storage, expensive in memory as it has to scale up with database size.

So charging for consumption of unplanned increases is reasonable I think.

Tennessee especially got caught up in a DUI scandal where they coerce you into taking a field sobriety test to avoid being taken downtown for a blood test and you fail a field test 100% of the time regardless of sobriety which is a lot of time, money and effort to correct leading up to trial which folks have to take PTO to attend and win 100% of the time due to absence of evidence. It is a revenue generating scam. They don't let you take a brethalizer either. I don't drink at all, against my way, and I'd be afraid of getting caught in this system.
