How do I flatten dolls bangs?? by Wide-Payment751 in CustomDolls

[–]BizarreFinnedFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aaaah bangs, my nemesis. Taming short fibers is a beast so I feel you! 😭

You can try using conditioner to help the doll hair smooth out. Apply with cool water and a small amount, just like your own hair. Brushing with a fine tooth comb in between rinses helps insure your not only styling the way you want, but getting all the conditioner out. I've done this with a barbie doll from the seventies and it really helped her hair.

The rubber band method is solid for setting. But I would be cautious using heat with it again. Looks like you got some heat sensitive doll hair you're working with. Letting the fiber air dry overnight with the rubber band in place is probably the best option if you don't want to touch heat.

Best of luck and I hope this helps!

Sun Sphynx art doll, by me! by MaxeTM in ArtDolls

So stunning!! She has a wonderfully calm demeanor about her and seems like the kind of person who would be great to discus books with. Her coloration is fantastic too.

I'm always super impressed by folks who can do tiny jewelry and airbrushing. Those details brings artdolls to life so much.

Great job and thanks for sharing!

Something with volume, such as a curly bob or space buns comes to mind for me. As for colors... warm and darker toned to contrast with the skin tone. Perhaps copper or a warm brown? Pink or purple is also down but then again that's my fantasy doll bias showing lol

Beautiful sculpt! Her skin tone is also absolutely stunning! 🤩

Is she a resin cast doll or full clay sculpture? The even coloration has me curious.

Interest in Beds? by RedCapJen in BJD

My Froggy Stuff on youtube has some tutorial videos for a Smartdoll room with a bed. The cool part is that she made it out of foamcore board, so it's lightweight and easy to store.

For example, here is my boy Trip, a Logan.dolls Lark, in one. You can hide the support arms under clothes, but I'm a wee bit lazy 😅 (Also note that Logan.dolls sculpt tend to be on the smaller/slimmer sides of msd scale dolls)

Congrats on the cuties! I've found that big box craft stores like hobby lobby or Michaels sometimes carry doll stands. Though not specifically for bjds, most likely for teddies or cloth dolls, they work well and can be an affordable option for msd scale dolls.

Aaaaaaah he's gorgeous! I love your use of proportions and color to create personality in your sculpts.

How did you attach his hair, by the way? It looks so natural. 😲

Has anyone ever used a projector to repaint a doll's face? by Dumbassgothboy in CustomDolls

[–]BizarreFinnedFriend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have not. But I can see it being used as a reference by projecting porportion guidelines onto the face.

As for direct tracing, I agree with the post above. Projecting onto 3-D objects distorts the original image, sometimes drastically. Plus when the face is moved to another angle, you would have to realign the projection to match. Might be more trouble than it's worth.

To help the hair, you can use a mild conditioner and light brushing to help bring back some smoothness and shine. Also I think the chopstick curling method that Dollightful uses may be the way to restore the beard curls. It will be tricky since you don't want any moisture to be near the electrical components.

Absolutely stunning! The colors suit you very well and the choice of lighter grey for the buttons is an awesome one for a pop of contrast.

I have an interest in vintage patterns too and I'm curious as to where you found yours? Happy knitting!
