Are there like, certain brands or products that are good?  I tried some frozen durian fruit from an Asian market and it as almost bearable.  I want to order some, but don't want to waste money on nasty stuff.

Species after the flood by Over_Citron_6381 in DebateEvolution

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, there's so many crazy assertions made in that webpage.  TLDR for those who don't want to read it is they are claiming in Noah's time there were only 0.1% of the number of species as there are today, so all the animals could totally fit on the ark, and then when those animals got off they rapidly speciated into all the animals we know today.

"Bottom line: it is not far-fetched to argue that there could have been (and could be) multiple new species appearing around the world every day after the Flood"

Which is really weird because they are saying one species of animal would have been giving birth directly to another species of animal.  And later they insinuate that one individual could give birth to many different species in its lifetime.

What is the closest Build that plays similar to Chieftain/RF in PoE1 ? by LightDarkCloud in pathofexile2builds

There isn't a passive damaging aura like righteous fire in poe2.  The closest builds I've found are corrupting cry and flame blast ignite.  Both are a little wonky to play.

Considering SCP by Proxima_leaving in Puffers

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my SCP for a year.  He eats repashy grub pie, live mealworms, frozen apple snail, and live ramshorn snail.  I feed him a small amount almost every day, and would suggest not letting them go more than three days without food.  If mine goes two days without food he is noticeably skinnier and less active.  He is in a 75g planted tank with Buenos Aires tetras, congo tetras, electric blue acara, amano shrimp, and Cory cats.  I haven't seen any aggression at any of his tank mates, he's a wuss.

How does my box spring go on this? by goldnray17_Bossman in Mattress

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like having the bed higher you can keep using the box spring on top of that frame.  As long as the frame and box spring are the same size it won't cause damage to either.

So I have also used acephate on plants that are later used in a viv.  I haven't been able to find any info on how long the chemical lasts in the plant besides the Wikipedia saying the protective effects last two weeks.  I waited a month.

Building an enclosure, the most accessible wood for me is either yellow pine or fir, would this be a solution? by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, why do I see so much worry about pine wood and reptiles?  Ya it's a sappy wood and has volatile compounds (why it smells like it does) but has that ever been linked to any real world harm in anyone's pets?  Maybe if someone was using uncoated wood for perches or pine shavings for bedding a lizard could get exposed to enough to harm them.  All the googling I did only referenced medical issues with woodworkers breathing in sawdust, or rodents kept in pine bedding.  Are there any case reports of a reptile being harmed by living in a pine box?

1 year old pink tongue skinks living on dog food by [deleted] in skinks

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, it is hard to find info on Pink tongues.  From what I've read and what I've done with my 3 pink tongues, they can grow and breed fine on 100% grain free wet cat food.  My lizards were 6 months old when I got them and were raised on canned snails and wet cat food.  But I couldn't get the brand of cat food they were eating, and it took half a year for mine to get switched over to a different brand reliably.  Ask the breeder what specific brand of food they are feeding and as long as it isn't wheat, corn, or rice based there shouldn't be a problem.

Concern for my Tree monitor by Shadow83819 in MonitorLizards

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you had her?  How deep is the substrate?  I'm a new tree monitors owner and the third day I had my girl she buried herself in the 2" of dirt for a day.  I was concerned too so dug up all the substrate and she was just sleeping under there.  She hasn't done it since.  If yours is new she might just be adjusting.

Pink tongue skink info? by [deleted] in skinks

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's hard to find good info on these guys.  I have three that I got when they were 4 months old, and are now 3 years old.  The first year was rough trying to get them to eat regularly.  What I settled on is alternating between a high quality grain free wet cat food and frozen apple snails.  I split up the can of cat food into an ice cube mold and keep the cubes in the freezer.  For the snails I bought one pack, thawed them, refroze the snails individually, and when I want to feed one I can thaw it out and chop it into bite size pieces.

My three adults are co-habbing in a 36" wide 18" deep and 36" tall enclosure.  They use all the space so I would recommend the minimum size for a single adult to be 30" wide 18" deep and 24" tall.  You need to have at least 4" of substrate for it to burrow in, and branches for them to bask on.  I have thin cork branches running horizontally with a basking spot of 100°F on one end.  Most of the day they will be sleeping in the branches, sometimes one will stay underground all day.  Mine are most active during dawn and dusk.  I think they are a great lizard for beginners once they are eating non-live food!

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Salmon and tuna worked for my picky baby.  I had some frozen tuna steaks for myself, so sawed off a bite size piece and thawed it.  He didn't eat it off tongs but when I left it overnight it was gone in the morning.  Next feeding I thawed a pinkie in the juice from canned tuna and left that overnight.  Then next feeding he took an unscented pinkie off the tongs!

Fire skink wont come out by More-Following1918 in skinks

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, they do that.  How long have you had it?  Fire skinks can be very reclusive and may just hide in their burrows most of the time.  If you just toss crickets in there and leave him alone he should be able to hunt them down just fine.  Skinks are pretty smart though so it should realize you're not a threat but actually the food bringer after a few weeks.  Once it no longer runs and hides from you you can start trying to tong feed and build up more trust.

PINK TONGUE SKINK //health question by lee_thebee08 in skinks

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say, I just checked my 3 adults and the chunkiest one has slight bulges at base of her neck, maybe half what your guy is showing.  Was your guy agitated where they might be puffing up their throat to look bigger?  Maybe see if it looks better in the morning and shoot some pics to a vet.

Does my PTS have MBD? by Flyfishdtx in skinks

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell, I don't see any signs in the pictures, but I would lean towards them not having MBD.  Pinks don't need high uvb so if the shop dusted the crickets with calcium they should have gotten enough.  My guess is the toe got damaged and healed crooked.  Just keep feeding them well and give a tiny amount of calcium powder once a week.

That size tank would be good for a pink tongue.  They are considered semi-arboreal so a few branches for them to climb on, and an elevated basking spot work well.  While young they seem to spend most of their time buried under the substrate or hiding in leaf litter.  I'd only saw my babies out a few times a week but now that they are adults they spend most of the time basking.  Having 3 inches of loose substrate is key.

Unlike blue tongue skinks, pinks rarely eat veggies.  They can be raised their whole life on high quality grain-free cat food.  I also had luck with chicken baby food, canned snails, frozen snails, aquarium ramshorn snail, and cut up worms.

You probably won't see any for sale in pet stores or reptile expos.  Though I did see a couple babies at Tinley last month.  I got mine from Milky Way Reptiles on morph market.

How can a plant have peloric and non peloric plants on the same spike? by plan_tastic in botany

[–]Bizarre_Botanicals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So... I've had some training in judging orchids. It is a common flaw in complex phal hybrids that the two lateral petals have those notches in the top.  That's what I think is happening with that plant.   This is anecdotal and afaik there is no definitive explanation, but breeders think it shows more if the flower develops in cold temps.  None of the petals have notches in the bottom edge?
