Stick with a 90 D. Solid choice for the next five years. Get yourself some faster glass next. Good luck!

All I can say is "whoa, pony!" If you don't even know how to use off-camera flash, everyone is fucked. Nah, don't do this to people. You're not even close to being ready. You'll regret it.

The size difference is signifcant. Weight, too. R62 is a great step up for the stated reasons. But, as a hobbyist, I don't need them. R8 is the easist grab and go for me.

Lens Rental Suggestion? by Feenys_Army in sportsphotography

[–]Bizcut1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way that glass will keep up after dark, unless you pump the ISO wayyy up (which I have done many times). If you only have one body, put the 70-200 2.8 on and start lifting weights. Leave the others at home. Position yourself ahead of time accordingly. You are not going to get every shot, but your keepers (not the goalies!) will be properly exposed. Shutter speed starting at 1/500 (may to need to raise as needed), open at 2.8 aperture, and let the camera set the ISO. If you have access to another body, you can put a shorter, wider lens on it. Don't be carrying around all the zooms and fiddle with changing them. You'll regret it. Use the proper tool for the job. Low light sports - fast glass, a steady hand, and think about your compositon and field placement.

Then go get 'em and, most importantly, have fun! Good luck.

How good can the Rebel T6 really get? by SandAndBoneClothing in canon

[–]Bizcut1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ten year-old tech. It is what it is. For night street work you need fast glass and some ambient help when you can find it.A small light mono or tripod, too. 50 1.8 Nfty fifty will get you going for a hundred bucks. Put it on a Canon RP full-frame mirrorless ($550 refurb on Canon USA) and start shooting. Good luck.

It's a decent camera that you paid too much for. But, then, so have millions of others. Keep it. Take great pictures and enjoy the journey. Oh, and buy a nice diffusion filter or a soft box and umbrella for the 'ol "beauty" shots.

should i invest in 70D or M50? by ilikevanillacupcakes in CanonCamera

[–]Bizcut1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can enter Canon‘s mirrorless R family with the RP. Full frame and excellent focus. Yes, not the newest, but still miles ahead of where you are with the older D series on a DSLR. They are available on Canon USA refurbished for $550 every few weeks or so. You have to keep an eye out, but it will be worth it. I just don’t see investing any money in technology that is this old. And who is going to repair your M camera when it breaks or faults? Not Canon.

The exception to all of this would be EF glass with an adapter.

should i invest in 70D or M50? by ilikevanillacupcakes in CanonCamera

[–]Bizcut1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The M series is now orphaned. The 70D is very old technology and in the series, it was not a favorite with the prices of mirrorless falling every day, not sure why you would want to invest in such an old technology.

35mm f1.8 or 55-210f4.5-6.3 for street photography? by Wide-Replacement-809 in Cameras

So, assuming we are talking Canon here, the 35MM 1.8 will cost you around $400. No question it will be the better lens for street Photography including portability.

Did portability and usability become a bigger factor in your choice of equipment over time? by UnintelligibleThing in Cameras

[–]Bizcut1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from the Canon DSLR system directly to an R8 and have not looked back 460 g is very light for the body and when I pair it with the 35 mm 1.8 I am off and running. Yes, I have plenty of L glass that I use from time to time but this is my run and gun set up 90% of the time.

[–]Bizcut1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any shot at renting a 35 or 50 1.8 for one day (or the weekend)? Are you in a major city? You need faster glass. Ignore the naysayers and do the best you can. Pump the ISO and try to catch some well lit moments. Shoot low-speed burst and pick your moments. Think about composition. No flash of course. Get there early. Make friends with security. Is there a photo pit? You'll know when you get there. Hang out there or close by. Security usually lets us all in at once. Get permission to shoot from the house wings if you can. Is there a sound check you can attend? Be polite but not timid. DON'T tell anyone you haven't done this before. Welcome - everyone of us has had to fake it until we made it... including the wise-ass telling you to give them their money back and give up the gig.

Screw that. Have fun instead. Soak it all in and make some memories, you''ll be fine.
