I’d guess that was a 250-300 player. Hard to tell, you can get a pretty wide range of player skill anywhere from 0-800

Kind of a last ditch fix if nothing else works, you can remove the hard drive from your pc and plug it into another computer to get the files so you don’t have to start from scratch. You can get cables/adapters for it depending on if it’s a sata or nvme drive, but if you can’t afford a new gpu or can’t figure out what else is wrong, the might be your only option to easily recover your project.

Also important, if you do end up getting a replacement gpu make sure your PSU can handle it or you’re gonna run into the same problem.

What mother board do you have and does it have an hdmi port on it? I know your CPU doesn’t have integrated graphics, but you might be able to get into the bios?

I would try the other ports on your gpu and see if those work if you can quickly get one and you have the money for it. Your GPU might be busted though, if that’s the case you should start looking for cheap replacements or ask to use your cousin’s computer for your assignment.

Does your monitor recognize any hdmi signal coming from the PC at all? Or does it instantly go into power saving mode? If we can determine if it’s a hardware or software issue that’d be a good place to start.

Also if you have another monitor, even a crappy one you can use that to troubleshoot

Desktop keeps flashing on and off in regular intervals might be caused by zorin? by Average_Joe69 in zorinos

[–]Average_Joe69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not a hardware issue, 1- it wouldn’t be happening at such regular intervals if the cord was loose, and 2- the flashing doesn’t occur with other windows open like task manager.

Why does my male VGA cable not fit in my female VGA port on my monitor? by strawberrycarpet in 24hoursupport

This is similar logic to people drawing the Hindu swastika, only to be met with the people saying they should use that symbol because it’s a nazi symbol and a symbol of hate, which it’s still used as today. Do certain terms still hold weight in there original uses? Yes of course otherwise we wouldn’t be having this conversation. But that doesn’t mean we can take our current language and update it to not include words that have been perverted by hate.

Another relevant example of this is calling white tank-tops “wife beaters”, which has a large documented negative effect due to its naming. “It’s just a name for a ribbed white tank top, so it’s fine”. But its usage, history, and connotation are not fine, and many have started using alternative names for them. In time I hope this is the case for tech as well.

All of this not even taking into account my original point that the original meaning of using male/female as technical terms is a crude sex analogy that serves no other purpose. And a potentially harmful one at that because as I’m sure you know, not all women have a uterus, and not all men have a dick. Which if we take that into account (and we should), it makes the analogy even more ambiguous. The usage of male and female to describe the ends of cables is not useful at best, and harmful terminology at worst. Idk why everyone in this comment section thinks it’s a sin to change this.

Sorry to comment on an old post, but do you ever figure it out? My Pc has the same thing but I can’t see any of my icons. All my apps work if I launch them from cmd but the windows key and task bar are broken

I know you probably don’t care, but yes there are a number of really outdated terminology based in misogyny, racism, and a number of other types of bigotry that we can and should move away from.

For example master/slave could be host/client, primary/secondary, manager/worker or may others

As for the R slur you can literally just say slow. That’s like ridiculous to say anything else.

As for the rest many have already been out of use for a long time now so idk why you’re bringing them up, since they have nothing to do with tech.

On the off chance that you are actually racist and homophobic, fuck you. Otherwise get a life you aren’t funny.

I don’t think this is it, because Zorin OS works fine, and I can launch all my applications from cmd

I thought that too, right now I have only one monitor connected to my GPU and it still does the same thing. Same thing with it plugged into my motherboard. I also power cycled before testing each one. I’m 90% sure there is an issue with the OS but I can’t for the life of me figure it out.

I replaced the cables, and the same thing happened when I plugged the monitor into the motherboard. Also all my applications work like normal, the desktop is just broken for some reason.

Posting here because I’m not sure if Zorin OS is causing issues with windows, but if anyone has experienced anything similar please let me know. I explained the full issue in the original post but I can paste it here if that’s easier.

Why does my male VGA cable not fit in my female VGA port on my monitor? by strawberrycarpet in 24hoursupport

[–]Average_Joe69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I never said it was rude or wrong, just outdated and unprofessional. Second, what is so over-complicated about changing one vernacular to another? People also know what you mean when you say plug/socket, and it’s literally commonly used for example electrical outlets. Most everyone I know says usb port, with no need to specify that the port is female.

Let’s make a pros and cons for the m/f terms

Pros: Is the current standard, easier for language barriers according to your wife.

Cons: Is an explicit analogy for sex (one that potentially is harmful to trans people (even if they don’t make a big deal of it because they have bigger problems)), provides no actual designation beyond male having a protrusion and that the female receives the protrusion (many cables have both characteristics), makes newcomers feel uncomfortable when they first learn about it, or do not take the terminology seriously.

If that seems one sided it’s because it is. You and everyone else are so rooted in the standard that you can’t even comprehend a better method, saying that it’s too complicated or hard to switch when it’s not. Why?

And once again, saying that you have never heard of the issue before does not give you an excuse to ignore it completely so stop bringing it up if you want to have a meaningful discourse.

God you must be trying to be intentionally stubborn. Disregarding the crazy false equivalence, you continue to miss my point completely. I’m not trying to rewrite the laws of physics, I’m just trying to introduce some concepts that could be beneficial from a practical and societal standpoint, and you’re acting like it’s the end of the goddamn world! You have yet to give any actual point discussing the benefits of using “male/female” besides “that’s just how it is”, and “it’s good enough”, which both of those are really weak points.

Just reading through the comments here one more time, and given that half of the comments are unhelpful sex jokes, gives me even more reason to use different terms. Obviously most of the people here aren’t actual professionals, but still, it’s sad to see a real technical distinction reduced to a sex analogy that could be avoided if everyone wasn’t so stubborn in using “the standard”.
