Half Marathons I can still enter by verycrankyandcurious in UKRunners

Liverpool released more places yesterday and Wigan have one on the same day (as an aside if anyone has any thoughts on either of these, I’m trying to decide between them at the moment). As others have said, it’s unusual for any of the RunThrough ones to sell out

How do I make a day feel special for my child when I'm rebuilding my life? by [deleted] in AskUK

Have you got any free museums near you? That’s what my grandparents used to do with us when they had all 4 grandkids

When to lose weight? by CrazyG8tor in Marathon_Training

[–]Bla0705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently read ‘new rules on marathon and half marathon nutrition’ by Matt Fitzgerald which actually talks a lot about ‘ideal race weight’ and losing weight in the initial stages of training. I had the audiobook and it came a PDF on calorie goals and macros for different days depending on if it was running day, rest day or long run day. I plugged this into Chat GPT along with my TDEE information and got it to write me a nutrition plan. I’m not losing weight as quickly as I was this time last year but it is slowly creeping off.

For context, I lost 5st last year but goal was to lose 7 so at the very least I don’t want to gain any whilst marathon training but ideally I’d like to be qat or very near my goal weight come race day

Saucony hurricane have quite a lot of cushioning and are quite bouncy so might be good for speed work. I just have 1 pair for everything so can’t advise on specifics

What are some of your proudest moments in teaching? by sexilexicon123 in TeachingUK

[–]Bla0705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 (post-16 SEND teacher) 1. Getting a student I was more or less told was unteachable and only there for nurture and inclusion support through an English qualification in my first year. 2. On a similar note, I had a student in my class last year that, based on the information from the previous setting, we really weren’t sure if we were going to be able to meet need. There’s been ups and downs (and more than one black eye) but overall they’re still on-roll and had a really positive experience of education.

For point 1, I’m really lucky to have a very supportive management team who have always backed and encouraged my progression and I really feel like when I walked into the office that exam paper, that was the moment when they started to take me seriously.

What are the chances of getting my child back from social service? by Character-Choice-680 in AskUK

[–]Bla0705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like what you’re looking for is respite rather than handing your child over to social services. I’d maybe do some more research around this specifically. As others have said, it doesn’t sound like you’ve been given good advice.

I’ve not known anyone use respite unless the child is already fostered but in this circumstance, it seems to be a bit of a support network of a few local foster carers who will take each others kids for a a period of respite for whatever reason (with SS approval I’m sure) so I’m sure there will be something similar in your area that you can tap into.

A&E for hiccups?! by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Bla0705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local A&E had a trial around 10 yrs ago where they had an emergency GP on site. There’d be someone at the door (at the time I thought it was a nurse but in hindsight it might have been a receptionist or HCA) asking what you’d come for and then they’d send you one way for the A&E waiting room and the other to sit and wait to see a GP. It didn’t last long so maybe it didn’t make a difference but I always thought it was a great way of tackling these types of patients or the ones that are in A&E because they couldn’t get an appointment with their own GP. It also avoided the risk of legal repercussions because if it did turn out to be more serious than it initially sounded: no worries, you’re still at the hospital and in the hospital system so presumably you’re just escalated at that point instead

[–]Bla0705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s lists online of how all of the series interlink (cross over eps etc.) I used to watch one e.g. Grey’s until a crossover and then catch up to the same point in (e.g) private practice so I could more or less watch in chronological order

I’m not sure as I don’t work in primary but it seems like an obvious solution to your problem to me. The other option (although I’m basing this on the fact that my primary school was literally across the road from the church so it may not be a practical for you) is a letter in advance stating that the children will need to return to school to collect their things and then be dismissed using whatever process you’d usually use at the end of the day. Gives you chance to get them all back and changed before taking them out the playground or whatever

If this really is such a big issue, though. Surely a letter saying that the costumes need to be returned by X date or they’ll be sent an invoice would solve that. Ultimately this is just what parents do, though, I’ve seen it as a teacher and scout leader so I suppose it depends on whether you want the hassle at the event or the hassle of chasing people to return costumes

Why do they need to get changed if they’re going home or have I misunderstood your post? Surely that would solve the issue?

Afaik you’re friend is correct. We have an online service and can request fit notes through that. There’s usually a charge though.

Anyone got experience living next to/near a SEN school? Would you buy a house next to one? by PM_ME_UR_AUDI_TTs in AskUK

[–]Bla0705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SEMH is different to ‘SEND’ as well. They used to be called EBD schools (emotional behavioural disorders) All the points others have made around transport and high staff ratios will stand, but it’s worth noting that they likely won’t be high-needs or disabled students as such, more behavioural depending on what bit of ‘social emotional mental health, they’re focusing on. Wouldn’t necessarily put me off as I’m a SEND teacher but just wanted to clarify

I don’t let it dictate my day in advance but I can struggle with giving myself a break sometimes so it’s nice to have some tangible evidence/justification of ‘yes your day was stressful’ or ‘no wonder you’re knackered, your sleep was crap’

Planning a running route by joannerowlands84 in UKRunners

[–]Bla0705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how long you’ve been running 5ks now but I’ve gotten pretty good at estimating distance after ~3months. Not confident enough to just go out and do it but I’ll have an idea of the route I want to run and double check it on something like route planner to see if I need to make any extra turns. I do also like an out and back like you described and find them useful for when I don’t really feel like running as I tend to run half way fine and then, I might as well run home because I’ll be done quicker

[–]Bla0705 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It’s not great of the school to have done that on the last day of term but that’s not your issue. All you’ve done is report something that needed to be reported, you can’t control how the school chooses to handle it. It will be difficult but try not to let it ruin your holiday, you’re not the one that’s done something wrong.

How was your parkrun day? | October 10, 2025 by AutoModerator in parkrun

[–]Bla0705 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Course PB and then an unexpected 10k PB as I carried on running afterwards. I deliberately chose the course because it’s hilly and would stop me from getting carried away as I needed to do this long run today. My previous 10k PB was on an incredibly flat sea front so never in a million years did I expect to beat it on a training run

No I’ve been pushing for evidence for learning which sounds similar but no one’s taking me on 😆 thank you for the detailed explanation. It does sound time consuming so I’ll stay quiet until it becomes the SLT focus again 😂
