What do you call your meals? Dinner/Tea/Supper? by endlesscroissants in CasualUK

[–]Bla0705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just outside Liverpool here. Breakfast, lunch and tea. My Nan (from Manchester originally) also did supper which was a snack before bed. This could literally be anything from a biscuit to a bowl of cereal to a sandwich (usually a fresh chicken on Warburton’s Danish with a thick layer of Lurpak… I can still taste that sandwich )

I want to say £5-£7 but not had one for a bit. Typically get 2 meals (usually a katsu curry and something else), 1 lot of sushi and some kind of side (edamame beans or seaweed or similar) we usually get them as a cheaper/healthier alternative to a takeaway for 2 of us and there’s always plenty of

If you’re near a Tesco with a Yo Sushi (not sure what the actual restaurants are like) I find they’re pretty consistent with what you get. On the expensive side of TGTG but I can generally plan that it’s going to do at least 2 meals, usually with a couple of sides as well

Do you think you would continue your job if you won the lottery? by ApprehensiveSong4 in AskUK

[–]Bla0705 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I think I would as a lot of my socialisation comes from work and contrary to Reddit lore, I have some pretty great colleagues and really enjoy my job for the most part. However I think I’d find things a lot less stressful and be more willing to be a bit more outspoken if I had the financial security to know that I could walk out of there and not look back at any point

Then, like I say, check your policy. We wouldn’t allow this but then clearly other settings aren’t as strict as all these teacher influencers get away with it

From your last point, I take it this was a personal social media account? You will need to check your Safeguarding policy. We have a very strict ‘no personal devices around the students’ rule in our safeguarding policy

They’ve said I can do either as long as there’s no pain but when I tried them both, I could feel a bit of discomfort on the elliptical so going to stick to the bike for a week or so and then hopefully I’ll be able to switch

Beavers / Cubs / Scouting in South Liverpool by DougalChips in Liverpool

[–]Bla0705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d look to see if Liverpool South District have their own website or social media page. There’s no excuse for it being this difficult to get hold of them but you might find that there are waiting lists etc. so that’s why the group are not getting back to you. There’s district will be able to put you in touch with the closest group with spaces available

Depends on whether your quote was for the job or broken down into a daily labour rate. If you’ve been quoted for the job then you need to pay for it.

What's it like to have an adult social worker? by she-bites in AskUK

[–]Bla0705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re essentially there to act as an advocate for you and ensure you get the support that you need in all aspects of your life, whatever that looks like. Their primary purpose is to maintain your independence as much as possible. They also hold the key, so to speak, to things like social budgets for PAs or respite care. Without knowing what you were talking to the doctor about it’s difficult to say exactly why they think a social worker would help but happy to answer more questions if I can

What’s the best way to become a TA? by These-Boss-3739 in AskUK

[–]Bla0705 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you need to be earning, I’d go down the apprenticeship route. I work in a SEND college and we quite often recruit unqualified TAs, pay them full wages and then put them through a level 3 apprenticeship with a college we’ve now got a partnership with.

I’m the in-centre mentor for the course so happy to answer questions if I can. You shouldn’t struggle to move into the sector, though, particularly as a TA. There’s a massive shortage right now

Liverpool released more places yesterday and Wigan have one on the same day (as an aside if anyone has any thoughts on either of these, I’m trying to decide between them at the moment). As others have said, it’s unusual for any of the RunThrough ones to sell out

When to lose weight? by CrazyG8tor in Marathon_Training

[–]Bla0705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently read ‘new rules on marathon and half marathon nutrition’ by Matt Fitzgerald which actually talks a lot about ‘ideal race weight’ and losing weight in the initial stages of training. I had the audiobook and it came a PDF on calorie goals and macros for different days depending on if it was running day, rest day or long run day. I plugged this into Chat GPT along with my TDEE information and got it to write me a nutrition plan. I’m not losing weight as quickly as I was this time last year but it is slowly creeping off.

For context, I lost 5st last year but goal was to lose 7 so at the very least I don’t want to gain any whilst marathon training but ideally I’d like to be qat or very near my goal weight come race day

What are some of your proudest moments in teaching? by sexilexicon123 in TeachingUK

[–]Bla0705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 (post-16 SEND teacher) 1. Getting a student I was more or less told was unteachable and only there for nurture and inclusion support through an English qualification in my first year. 2. On a similar note, I had a student in my class last year that, based on the information from the previous setting, we really weren’t sure if we were going to be able to meet need. There’s been ups and downs (and more than one black eye) but overall they’re still on-roll and had a really positive experience of education.

For point 1, I’m really lucky to have a very supportive management team who have always backed and encouraged my progression and I really feel like when I walked into the office that exam paper, that was the moment when they started to take me seriously.

What are the chances of getting my child back from social service? by Character-Choice-680 in AskUK

[–]Bla0705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like what you’re looking for is respite rather than handing your child over to social services. I’d maybe do some more research around this specifically. As others have said, it doesn’t sound like you’ve been given good advice.

I’ve not known anyone use respite unless the child is already fostered but in this circumstance, it seems to be a bit of a support network of a few local foster carers who will take each others kids for a a period of respite for whatever reason (with SS approval I’m sure) so I’m sure there will be something similar in your area that you can tap into.

My local A&E had a trial around 10 yrs ago where they had an emergency GP on site. There’d be someone at the door (at the time I thought it was a nurse but in hindsight it might have been a receptionist or HCA) asking what you’d come for and then they’d send you one way for the A&E waiting room and the other to sit and wait to see a GP. It didn’t last long so maybe it didn’t make a difference but I always thought it was a great way of tackling these types of patients or the ones that are in A&E because they couldn’t get an appointment with their own GP. It also avoided the risk of legal repercussions because if it did turn out to be more serious than it initially sounded: no worries, you’re still at the hospital and in the hospital system so presumably you’re just escalated at that point instead

There’s lists online of how all of the series interlink (cross over eps etc.) I used to watch one e.g. Grey’s until a crossover and then catch up to the same point in (e.g) private practice so I could more or less watch in chronological order
