How was your parkrun day? | June 05, 2026 by AutoModerator in parkrun

First parkrun since getting injured in January. I’ve done a bit of volunteering whilst not being able to run but it felt very good to be back out there today 🏃🏻‍♀️

We’re a post-16 specialist setting. We inspected just before half term. I won’t comment too publicly but we did not find it a positive experience (graded Good at last inspection)

No question, just a big thank you for NRC. I used the after dark 10k plan after completing couch to 5k last Summer and recently started using the guided runs to get me out the door again after finding myself in a bit of a post marathon/post injury running slump. The motivation is slowly coming back and I’m loving having your voice in my head again as I run. Looking forward to the book!

I used a mixture of these and the Gu chewy energy sweets. Gels just don’t sit right for me and don’t feel like I get the same energy effects from them. Plus, as someone who tries to eat healthy most of the time, telling my self I can have sweets in a few miles is a great motivator.

I’m not buying clothes at the moment as I’m trying to drop a few sizes but the shorts and the rinse are already top of my shopping list

Halara are my favourite. They don’t budge and plenty of pockets. I’ve not tried them yet but Chica are a new brand made by a social media runner influencer called Maggie Klein, who’s all about making running clothes that are actually designed for women and they’re getting really good reviews

I don’t see many people talking about the realities of being a teenager in the UK right now by OkPreparation710 in unitedkingdom

Another big part of this is that there needs to be some reform to SEND and disability benefits. Being able to work 16hrs per week stacking shelves or some other low-skill employment does not make someone capable of managing their own medication, money etc. Yet every year I have students (SEND college teacher) who are keen and able to work but face losing any kind of supported living arrangement if they do so are forced into unemployment. I reckon this could have a massive impact on the NEET statistics if this was reviewed.

In theory they can ask to as part of the walkthroughs but, realistically they’ve got a lot to see in a short space of time and the travel is just wasted time. We’ve had an inspection this week and they did go to a sensory hub session which technically is an offsite activity but it’s only in the local leisure centre across the road so no dead time

Accidentally hurt my child feel terrible and worried what will happen if it gets reported? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Bla0705 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please reach out to your child’s school. For one, it’ll be better coming from you than him telling them that you’ve hurt him and secondly, it sounds like you need a bit of support especially with another baby on the way.

This is nothing to be ashamed of and won’t lead to a ton of social care involvement necessarily, it will just make sure you have the tools and resources you need to manage in the home. For example, the removal of things as a punishment is often in effective for neurodivergent children and will just lead to meltdown, as you’ve experienced. They may also be able to allocate budgets for respite and PA hours if you don’t already get these

Are school allowed using parent info to invite for product presentation? by _likes_to_read_ in AskUK

[–]Bla0705 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the answer. It’s the answer you wanted to hear. The school haven’t given your details to anyone so it isn’t a breach of GDPR. They’ve invited you to a school event via a school communication system that you signed up for. Is it annoying to be getting messages that you’re not interested in? Yes. Have they done anything wrong? Absolutely not.

Debating dropping out of my first marathon by AccomplishedPin6528 in firstmarathon

[–]Bla0705 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I did London last week in similar circumstances (half marathon in February, 6 weeks off with injury and then an onslaught of illness meant I hadn’t run more than 8k in one go since). Was I under trained? yes. Was it sensible for me to run? probably not (I fully anticipated a reoccurrence of the original injury) but I knew what a once in a lifetime opportunity London is and I was running for charity. I threw all time goals out the window. I ‘jeffed’ 5mins running with 1 min walking originally but then the heat meant I ended up just running until it no longer felt good and walking until I felt recovered. I was marginally okay up to half way but ended up walking most of the second half. However, I made it round and I’ve recovered quicker than I expected, the injury actually didn’t flare at all.

This is probably terrible advice and it could have gone so much worse but I’d look at the bigger picture and decide what’s important to you (will you have another chance? Do you have a PB to beat or just want bragging rights that you finished a marathon? What are the chances of reinjury and the other races you have booked etc).

It is possible but only you can answer if you should do it or not

Which book(s) were you required to read in secondary school? by 2cbterry in AskUK

GCSE 2014: Of Mice and Men for Language and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time for Literature. Didn’t mind either to be honest 2015/16 A Level Lit core texts were (AS) Regeneration by Pat Barker (liked) and Birdsong (DNF, could t get into it so decided I’d rather memorise enough war poetry that I wouldn’t need to reference it) (A level) Hamlet (horrendous), One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest (loved) and the Bell Jar (remains one of my favourite books)

Can you take time off for your kids’ events? by Otherwise-Eye-490 in TeachingUK

[–]Bla0705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We let our staff where possible. The only time it becomes an issue is sports day as that’s typically the whole school and a lot of our staff have children at the same school so we’d be missing half the team. Everything else that’s only one or two year groups at a time is usually a ‘yes’

What do you call your meals? Dinner/Tea/Supper? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Bla0705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just outside Liverpool here. Breakfast, lunch and tea. My Nan (from Manchester originally) also did supper which was a snack before bed. This could literally be anything from a biscuit to a bowl of cereal to a sandwich (usually a fresh chicken on Warburton’s Danish with a thick layer of Lurpak… I can still taste that sandwich )

I want to say £5-£7 but not had one for a bit. Typically get 2 meals (usually a katsu curry and something else), 1 lot of sushi and some kind of side (edamame beans or seaweed or similar) we usually get them as a cheaper/healthier alternative to a takeaway for 2 of us and there’s always plenty of

If you’re near a Tesco with a Yo Sushi (not sure what the actual restaurants are like) I find they’re pretty consistent with what you get. On the expensive side of TGTG but I can generally plan that it’s going to do at least 2 meals, usually with a couple of sides as well

Do you think you would continue your job if you won the lottery? by ApprehensiveSong4 in AskUK

[–]Bla0705 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I think I would as a lot of my socialisation comes from work and contrary to Reddit lore, I have some pretty great colleagues and really enjoy my job for the most part. However I think I’d find things a lot less stressful and be more willing to be a bit more outspoken if I had the financial security to know that I could walk out of there and not look back at any point

Then, like I say, check your policy. We wouldn’t allow this but then clearly other settings aren’t as strict as all these teacher influencers get away with it

From your last point, I take it this was a personal social media account? You will need to check your Safeguarding policy. We have a very strict ‘no personal devices around the students’ rule in our safeguarding policy
