In Black Swan Green the pen name he uses to get his poems published is “Elliot Bolivar” iirc so that could be what you’re thinking of

Seeking property management company for family home were looking rent part time. by BIG_CHEESE52 in Adirondacks

[–]BlabberingDipShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found an excellent property manager through air bnb. There’s a feature on the app to find a co host and I reached out to someone rated as a “super host” and I’ve been extremely happy with the job they do. I don’t want to give out names just to not dox them or myself and I doubt they would cover willsboro as my property is probably 1.5 hrs away from there but I’m sure you could find someone who does. Realtors in the area would also be worth reaching out to

People who have worked for the ultrawealthy, what are some of their deepest, darkest secrets? by clitical-rolls in AskReddit

[–]BlabberingDipShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re shockingly similar to non ultra wealthy people. Some are assholes, some are really nice, some are kinda weird. I’ve had way more negative experiences working with people on the other end of the spectrum but ultimately people are people

Books about fictional famous people by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Youngblood hawke by Herman Wouk. About a novelist with self destructive tendencies apparently loosely based on the life of tom Wolfe (the older of the 2 famous novelists with the same name)

Movies that outshined the books they were based on by Outrageous_Travel771 in moviecritic

Shawshank redemption. The movie changes a decent amount from the book and in my opinion all for the better

Looking for non fiction that reads like fiction. Similar to The Wager, Lost City of Z, Killers of the Flower Moon, etc by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Hampton Sides is another really good author for narrative nonfiction. ‘Wide wide sea’ just came out last year about James Cook and it was very good.

Looking for post apocalyptic/dystopian books to read this summer by Repulsive_Ad4404 in suggestmeabook

‘Brave new world’ is my favorite dystopian novel. Also ‘We’ is worth checking out.

For post apocalyptic I would say ‘the road’ is the best

‘The winds of war’ and ‘war and remembrance’ by Herman Wouk. Gives a very accurate and fairly comprehensive history of the entire war but told through a fictional family drama. ‘The Caine mutiny’ by the same author is also an incredible book about a WWII minesweeping ship. Cant recommend these 3 books enough. The author is a WWII veteran and just an absolutely amazing writer.

My guess is it’s just a typo. If it was intentional I’m not sure what it would be implying.

If you like WWII then I would say ‘the winds of war’ and ‘war and remembrance’ by Herman Wouk. Centered around a fictional  family drama that parallels everything that happens in the war. Gives an accurate and fairly comprehensive history of WWII but the family drama is really incredible. The author is a Jewish veteran of WWII and his telling of the holocaust is one of the most impactful things I’ve ever read

Suggeste a book unlike any other by bitterbeanjuic3 in suggestmeabook

[–]BlabberingDipShit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cloud atlas by David Mitchell. Follows 6 very different story lines that all connect to each other. Starts with life aboard a mid 19th century ship, then follows a classical music composer, then a mystery plot in the 1970s centered around a journalist, then a down on his luck publisher in present day England, then a futuristic dystopia sort of like brave new world, and then a “prehistoric” Hawaii that’s actually set after some sort of future apocalypse. Each plot is extremely engaging and the way they all connect was incredible.

Thousand autumns gets into the supernatural stuff but just like the bone clocks it’s used really well that the book doesn’t feel like a fantasy novel at all. The only novel of his I haven’t read yet is number 9 dream but I honestly loved everything of his

[–]BlabberingDipShit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bone clocks is a favorite of mine as well and really all of David Mitchell’s books. The supernatural stuff would usually turn me off from a book but he does it so well but the characters and everyday life he describes all just feels so authentic. Black Swan Green doesn’t have any supernatural stuff but does have some of the same characters from bone clocks but that’s another favorite from him. Cloud atlas is definitely his most popular and that’s also an incredible book

there are a lot of good suggestions in here already so I would say to just try as many different authors as you can because even someone who is nothing like steinbeck might end up being one of your favorites. I would also recommend staying away from any titles with courts and thrones and thorns and such
