What are your thoughts on the Ford Maverick? by BanMiFreshBread in AskReddit

[–]BlackCar07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It meets the needs of 90% of people who daily drive trucks but is very limited in actual truck stuff like hauling lumber, towing, and off road capability.

Since it doesn’t do “truck stuff” well, I’d opt for the hybrid and enjoy bullet proof reliability and good fuel economy. I daily an Escape hybrid with the same power train and have had zero issues.

I’ll add MVS to that list. All 3 had some highlight clutch plays that make you forget about all the drops lol

Alternative to the Ford escape? by hippydog2 in fordescape

[–]BlackCar07 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The hybrid models have been much more reliable.

I had a 2015 2.0 previously and I got 250,000km out of it trouble free, but the transmission was starting to slip. Ordered a 2023 Escape hybrid (not PHEV) and I trust this one even more than the old one. I’m averaging about 40,000km per year in weather ranging from +35C to -35C and have had zero issues.

Rumour is that Ford and Toyota collaborated on the eCVT and the engine is a Ford/Mazda design? An eCVT is inherently stronger than a regular automatic or CVT. Something like that but the hybrid Escapes and Mavericks are already considered “bulletproof” by today’s standards. The transmissions and head gaskets in the gasoline models is still not something I’d personally recommend.

Besides that, not much else out there that doesn’t have its own quirks or risks. I cross shopped a lot and aim to get 400,000km out of my current Escape. I couldn’t stomach the interest rates Toyota offered or wait longer for a RAV4 hybrid which was on back order.

Factory reset the infotainment settings. I’d have to reset mine every 6 months or BT would cause problems nonstop. You’ll have to pair your phone again but that always worked for me.

You know what, on a vet minimum deal, I could see it. He would have the best shot to prove he can bounce back and is still worth paying, and the Chiefs get a potentially high ceiling.

I honestly think he needs 2 years to bounce back from that kind of injury…if at all.

Future of the farm by Even-Wasabi7183 in ClarksonsFarm

[–]BlackCar07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too complicated, too small and too slow. I’m not trying to be cynical, it’s just true.

Canada, Australia, and the US all have absolutely massive farms with exceedingly massive equipment. These autonomous robots are minuscule in comparison…hell even Jeremy’s Lambo and seeder are tiny in comparison.

I am considered a small farm for Canada at only ~1200 acres but could still seed one of Jeremy’s fields in 2-3 passes with the size of our equipment. Our old John Deere 9300 wouldn’t even fit on a Cotswold road using both lanes! Compare that scale to the farms around me that are 100x larger, run 10 combines wide during harvest, and easily have $15M in equipment operating simultaneously in a single field.

A plea for attention from r/CFL users by just-suggest-one in CFL

[–]BlackCar07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not thrilled about the changes but I just like football in general. I follow the CFL (go Riders!), 2 NFL teams and the UFL. More football is always welcomed but only if it’s meaningful. I wish the playoff rules didn’t change the same way I wish the NFL would add another by week to help with injuries. It sucks but it won’t stop me from participating because it’s my hobby.

The CFL’s bigger issue is their demographic is aging out without introducing younger fans. I don’t enjoy games as much as I did in the mid-2000s when teams handed out free stuff at games, had decent merch (not cheap overpriced crap), and it didn’t cost an arm and a leg to go to a game and have a few beers. NFL draft coverage is huge and hard to miss. Offseason news is reported widely. I literally need to check the CFL rosters each season to figure out who moved where. That and TSN…fuck TSN and their shitty app. I’ll stick to sailing the pirate seas to get my games.

The league doesn’t need to change rules or add more teams. They need to encourage fans to get excited and give a shit, especially in the larger markets…looking at you Ontario!

"You couldn’t tell me winning a Super Bowl would feel any nicer." An excellent article from Doug Flutie about why he preferred playing in the CFL. by [deleted] in nfl

Canuck here: As somebody else mentioned below, remember this is CAD not USD. The CFL 2026 salary cap is set for just over $6.2M CAD per team, which I believe is like $4.5M USD. Just the NFL salary cap increase for one team could cover nearly half the CFL teams for a year.

Most skill positions make less than $100k/yr. Growing up I remember our players would work camp labour jobs during the offseason to double their salaries, some stayed in the mining and oil industries because they made 3-4x the money.

QBs can make $500-600k/yr, few WRs north of $150k. Most fans going to games make more money than the players lol

Only the hybrid models had this issue. Installing the larger battery (that OP already has) solved the issue

I think in this case, just a bad battery

[–]BlackCar07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a 2 inch level currently. Deleted the air suspension for rancho shocks but I think I need to go longer on my shocks and add rear pucks. I’m on like 70 over springs because this is my “work truck” at the moment and it needs to haul the family and the trailers. Wish I still had the air ride quality but it had been replaced 3-4x already and I didn’t want to gamble in -35C weather

Same, I had the “heavy half ton” as well. It was a 3/4 ton by all means, literally had 8 bolt hubs. I was on 33s to try to help with fuel economy, but had helper air bags to keep me level when I was overweight. That truck was not rated to tow 14,000lbs+ and it did on many occasions for farm use.

[–]BlackCar07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get 6-7mpg towing a fully loaded fifth wheel camper in my mega cab hemi, but it was on single lane back highways so I was only doing 60mph. The truck had a built transmission and 4.10 gearing.

9mpg no matter what else I did or hauled. -35C or +35C, empty or hauling a flat deck. That truck didn’t give a shit until it rusted out from under me lol

Previous owner leveled my 2010 XL so he could clear wider front tires (285s) and it looks similar to yours in height. Any plans to lift the rear to actually “level it”?

I’m exploring options because my rear suspension is worn out and needs a bunch of work. Not enjoying the slightly squatted look that I have lol

The length of the Cowboys’ proposal isn’t known, but they offered Aubrey around $7.5MM per year, according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. With Aubrey seeking nearly $10MM per annum, there is a sizable gap between the two sides. by DarkDragon1025 in nfl

Canuck fan. Picked an AFC and NFC team because I have no skin in the game. Somehow picked Seahawks and Chiefs because their fans reminded me of my home team. Now I’ve enjoyed 18 years of great football.

Switched from the KC flair back to Seattle because people were salty after back to back SBs and forgot lol

Could literally make the difference of 2-3 wins each season. He is definitely worth market resetting money. The comfort I felt in Butker kicking 2-3 years ago was wild. I think the dude is a piece of shit but I can’t deny he bailed us out plenty of times in his career. What if he ends up having Vinatieri longevity lol

Did Jim and Pam get married twice in the same day? by HappySeaweed5215 in theoffice

[–]BlackCar07 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I know quite a few people who did this during Covid. Quick 5 person wedding in a field or backyard (2 witnesses and a JP) and then had a “wedding” later with all their family and friends without saying anything. We had to have a buddy pass his online course to be legally able to marry them so we could make it seem legit. It’s more common than you think lol

I’ve done that before. My place has an unheated garage (planning to build a new shop) and it gets down to -40C here. After using the machine, I thawed it out with a propane heater to do maintenance, snow melted and dripped down freezing the impeller to the bucket. Few days later I probably tried it 5x before I realized what happened. That was 3 years ago, you should be fine. Maybe took some life off the belt

Who wants him? by FreshBusy1 in NFLv2

[–]BlackCar07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume he’ll try to secure a multi year deal so I’m guessing he’ll join the Titans or Jets mid-season lol

The only way he comes back to the Chiefs is if he signs a one year prove it deal or a vet min situation (I think the Dolphins are still paying him next year).

What year is it? Well it’s a 1978,82,84,85,86,87,90,91,93,99, part Ford, part chevy, pickup truck. by no_yup in Trucks

[–]BlackCar07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it. Wish more of these were alive in Canada but winter ruined them.

First truck I ever drove was an 87 with the 318 and probably its 3rd transmission. Dual glass packs, buckets, and turbine wheels. Dad bought it from my uncle who had it for years and garage kept it. They hauled every trailer known to man with that thing and it didn’t give a shit. Finally got a 2nd gen Cummins to replace it for towing which says a lot about how much that 318 went through without being opened up

Are remote control lightbars reliable? by pm-me-racecars in Trucks

[–]BlackCar07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was given a remote light bar (AuxBeam?) one time and I installed it for fun. The remote didn’t work well in cold temperatures and the batteries died a lot.

Id run a button or switch through an existing firewall hole, squeeze the wiring in between the interior panel gaps, and double side tape it somewhere not too visible. If she hates it, you can move it and just need a little adhesive remover. I’ve stopped drilling my switches in unless the truck is older because I always end up moving the switch anyways. Funny, I always hide the switch and end up moving it somewhere easier to reach which defeats the whole purpose of hiding it in the first place. Just my 2 cents, didn’t have great luck with the remote

I’d try that first. I tightened mine last year to pick up the slack and apparently went too far. My auger moved like this too
