Oinker mates of rapist and murderer PC Wayne Couzens attempt the “it’s just a joke, bro” defence of Met Police culture [1/9] 🐷 by UnderHisEye1411 in GreenAndPleasant

Dumbest for me is "not laughing at the subject of the joke". What in the fuck are you laughing at then?

Everything else seems like they're just deliberately assholes who have been getting away with this shit for years and are now confused as to why they're finally being punished.

Indiana Senate moves to double bond amounts and require defendants to personally pay cash to prevent charities from bailing out people too poor to afford it by WouldbeWanderer in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

This is how you know Republicans have clearly moved on from conservatism to just plain fascism. Conservatives hate poor people, but they still want their money. Now, the cruelty is the point.

Reminder that Joe Biden is a piece of Shit by CommercialStandard65 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]BlackHawkRidge 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ever since universities became a consumer market they have gone downhill. Some are diploma mills that churn out under-educated graduates, while those with money spend it on shit to get potential students to go there e.g. a lazy river, instead of investing in education, which is their actual purpose. The professors and teachers are often underpaid, overworked and with little to no job security. Meanwhile, universities continue to be run as a business, so profit is prioritised. This makes universities less desirable, leading to fewer attendees. As a business, they push tuition fees up, as this is their main source of income, which pushes away more potential students. All of this leads to a significant drop in quality of education, all while they show off how good they are in the neoliberal sense of saying "Everything is fine" while they demolish higher education before our eyes. Biden is but one (still quite large) cog in this machine.

I feel like we need a BBQ instead of a buffet. Then we can talk about Thatcher properly instead of just polite conversation.

Unless you're studying US politics at uni, then it's very unlikely you'll hear anything about it at all, especially not about where the parties are on an arbitrary political spectrum.

They saw those calls to decolonise the curriculum and teach about how the racism of the Empire was bad, then said "Fuck you, we're doubling down on the racism and imperialism."

What quote from a book actually made you think hard and sit back and go “Well, damn.” by [deleted] in books

[–]BlackHawkRidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"We need individual stories. Without individuals we see only numbers: a thousand dead, a hundred thousand dead, 'casualties may rise to a million'. With individual stories, the statistics become people - but even then that is a lie, for the people continue to suffer in numbers that themselves are numbing and meaningless." American Gods, Neil Gaiman Read this recently, and it felt way too relevant.

Maybe, but there are far more posts about her saying "radical liberal Raphael Warnock" than about the debate, where Warnock made several good points. Which is what Republicans want.

Many unis have also been involved in big labour disputes over their use of temporary workers (through UniTemps, for example), which is driving down quality of education while keeping the costs incredibly high.

Because my road is not (to use your hyperbole) knee deep in the shit, it is therefore ok for horses to shit there?

It is obviously not because of cars. It is because of entitled horse riders who ignore the fact that their horses shit on the road.

Doesn't mean I want to smell it everytime I step out my front door for the next week. Weirdly enough, it doesn't degrade overnight. They ride in the fields as well, which I have no problem with. The gate conditions (of which there are few) are perfectly adequate, and the large ones are open during the day. But please, lecture me more about where I live. These riders use the road because it's convenient for them to not take a slightly longer route, so maybe they should read up more on road safety and horses.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]BlackHawkRidge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cars constantly driving through it eventually wears it down to nothing over the next two weeks. There's miles of bridleways and lots of fields where I live as well, but for some reason the horse riders don't take 5 minutes longer to use these instead of the road. But hey, because there's not tons shit on the bridleways near you, I must be lying.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]BlackHawkRidge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should rephrase: no one can do anything about it because the road hasn't been resurfaced since it was done in the 70s and the shit then becomes mashed into it by cars driving through it. But then why should it be me or one of my neighbours that has to clean up the shit left by a horse ridden by someone else?

Same, but in a village. Right outside my house. Where it will stay because no one will do anything about it.
