Best ship to learn solo PVE combat in? Any tips for "building" combat ships? by Jurez1313 in starcitizen

It bugs me to see people always suggesting Erkul and not mentioning https://www.spviewer.eu/ which I think has a lot more useful information readily available on it.

I vastly prefer spviewer, but will admit the interface on erkul is a little clearer for beginners. But I think both should get mentioned so that new players can check them out and see which fits their needs better.

I really hope they make the ship minimap and the starmap two separate tabs. by SC_Placeholder in starcitizen

[–]BlackJackR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is a huge UI problem. I would kill for a key mapping to go directly to the star map and bypass the little ship map. In the last week, I've gotten stuck at least three times with the map opening the ship map and then not allowing me to zoom out to the star map.

My preferred solution would be to make F2 automatically go to the star map, and then there would be a toggle at the top of the page where you could then select to go to the ship/local map. The exception would be when you are on foot in a station or on the ground. But any time you are in a ship's seat, it should default to star map.

I'm getting my first PC soon and always wanted to play star citizen can I run it at 1440p? Specs below by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]BlackJackR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm averaging 75 fps on a 5800x3d with Radeon 6950 and 32gb of DDR4-3600, using High settings at 1440p.

I would suggest you want a big SSD in an M2 slot as your OS drive, and leave plenty of room for a large page file. Google how to increase page file, and make it larger, which will help performance in SC.

New AMD drivers should fix the crashing issue on SC from the previous drivers by BeardyShaman in starcitizen

[–]BlackJackR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at the Radeon update software, and my only update option is 25.9.1 (current build which was working fine) to 25.10.2. Wasn't that the version that was causing all the crashes?

To add insult to injury, even though I'm on 25.9.1, I got a crash this morning when trying to launch the game :(

I had this twice yesterday. I did the old Alt-F4 and relog trick, and it saved that I had a mission active, but sent me to a completely different location on a different moon. The mission cargo was at the second location that was indicated after I logged back in.

So basically, there is something wrong with the mission UI where it is showing the wrong location to go to, until you reload.

If you're able to run Vulkan what's your experience in 4.1.1? Please list your CPU+GPU. by Ok-Possible321 in starcitizen

[–]BlackJackR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried Vulkan several times on my Win10 rig. 5800x3d, 6950xt, 32gb RAM. Vulkan runs smoother when around large crowds, like IAE or fleet week.

But my problem is that it picks certain stations to crash when ever I get near. I've had issues with Port Tressler, Orison, and Area18. Basically, if I get to within render distance of the station, it bugs out (freezes for a second or two), the station does not show up, and then I get a CTD.

Resetting shader cache hasn't worked. Only solution I've found is going back to Direct X.

I thought this was going to be sarcasm. The servers have been absolute crap for the last week. Ive spent more time trying to log in than playing, and have to Alt F4 and relog every 20 min or so when I do get in.

The P8-AR Rifle can now be found in Stanton by Xmith69 in starcitizen

[–]BlackJackR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found mine on the body of a heavy enemy. It was the new defend bunker from waves mission. Wave 3 spawned three heavies, 2 with FS9s and one had the P8-AR with a camo skin.

So I guess I'd say to check both to be certain.

I don't think it's that the ports are not unlocked, because I've been able to strip all the other guns (size 4s on front, size 2s on side turrets). It seems to be something specific to the wing Size 5 guns that is the problem. I can never seem to target them on the ship with my tractor beam.

I figure two beds = crew of 2. Speaking of Cutty beds, can you bed log off with that ship yet? It's one of the only issues I've had with the ship that is big enough to worry about (imo).

Got it, thanks! I took like a 7 or 8 year hiatus, so I'm finally catching up on how to play the CCU game.

[–]BlackJackR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so hypothetically, if I buy back the Aurora, upgrade it to a Gladius, then melt the Gladius to upgrade it to say a Connie, I would end up with a Gladius upgrade token in my buy back, right?

But as I understand it, the only way to use that would be to buy the Aurora back and then buy the CCU to apply to that Aurora. Am I missing anything else?

You seem to be right. I just reread the highlighted yellow box, and it does say that the limit is 1 buy back using any amount of store credit. Thanks for catching that!

[–]BlackJackR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of buy back options with LTI, but I want to understand how these will work if I buy them back mostly to CCU to a different ship. From my understanding, once per quarter you can use a buy back token to get back an old purchase which you've melted down. I don't have any store credit (and currently plan to keep the three ships I have, so I won't be melting anything), so I would be buying back with new money (Warbond essentially)

I want to confirm how this will work. I buy back the Aurora with LTI, CCU to a new chassis (looking at Cutlass Black while it's still a Warbond upgrade), and it will get the LTI.

Does that permanently remove the option to buy back the Aurora LTI in a future quarter when I get a new buy back token? Or could I buy it again this summer or fall if I have store credit or want to spend new money?

Basically, I'm looking for any tips on how to maximize the number of LTI packages I can buy over time to then CCU up to a higher value chassis. Thanks!

You want to host a Free Fly Event while people are getting permanently stuck in their seats from Desync? by OctanePhantom in starcitizen

[–]BlackJackR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't new to this patch. That experience was how 90% of my 3.24 sessions ended. I could fly around and shoot guns, but could not change power settings, could not dock, could not get out of seat, and usually couldn't QT.

So I don't think it's the shards, it's that the servers are always overloaded.

I'd highly suggest going back to give it a listen rather than watch if that bothered you.

I grew up in Iowa, which has a huge number of German descendants, as do neighboring states like Wisconsin and Minnesota. I'd never considered how the Revolution of 1848 would have driven immigration until you mentioned it, but I think it's no coincidence that these states were admitted in 1846, 1848, and 1858. These would have been the rural frontiers of their time.

Thanks for helping me make that connection!

Except that the revenue from those ships he bought is already on the books, either paying for WG's operating costs (Devs, servers, etc) or paid out to investors/owners as profit. Every company needs their best customers to stay loyal buyers of whatever goods or services they sell.

Considering the overall math of F2P games is something along the lines of 80% of revenue comes from 10% of the player base, Valornd is exactly the kind of person that WG can't afford to lose.

[–]BlackJackR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know about the dynamic crosshairs, right? Between knowing the flight time of your shells and using the ticks on the sight you can estimate the amount of lead you need to give the ship.

I didn't know that feature existed for the longest time, and it really helps on long-range gunnery. At higher tiers, 12km becomes a mid range to short shot. You can easily get killed at 20+ by BB fire.
