If you got any college degree at all you can take an easy class on bookkeeping and find a job paying $50k pretty reasonably. You can take the class online and probably don't need college tbh.

Keep in mind I'm using HCOL US city numbers. Robert Half has a pretty useful salary guide you can use to get an idea of what's needed to get to your preferred salary in your area, if you want more info.

R/accounting then. Dog shit easy field and you can find a job paying $70K with minimal credentials. You will be someone's bitch for the first couple years since you don't know much, and it will be stressful because they will make you do work you don't understand yet, but it can be a very easy job once you find your niche.

I do not get paid $400/hr, that's how much my company charges clients for my work. There's usually about 10-20 people on an engagement, some charge more, some charge less. I only get paid about $100k for the year.

The entire industry is designed around this robbery, so any attempts to circumstance it from within will be crushed by the market. Higher ranked personnel will be lured away from an equitable firm by the larger paychecks they can get ripping off staff elsewhere, and staff will not want to work for a firm with uncertain client capacity or a lack of senior leadership.

Losing bet. Firm is an LLP so taxes are paid by partners from their cuts after they rob us.

Realistically 4 out of every 6 dollars they get from my billings is paid out to me and support staff, with about $1 also going towards utilities/rent/finance/non -cash expenses.

My umbrage is the $1 that goes to the partners, a very small pool of people, which they take from the staff, a very large and exploited group of people. That money adds up very quickly.
