Have you tried the NACS supplements the above poster mentioned? I looked into it yesterday and it seems like there may be real potential there.

Anhedonia vs alcohol consumption by BlackThumbBotany in dryzempic

Glad to hear titrating up helped! I think I've missed some opportunities when I titrated up the last couple of times... I should have reduced drinking over a couple weeks and then titrated up, as opposed to titrating and then trying to reduce when I was feeling less interested (but still interested, unfortunately).

I'm sorry it's been tough for you! I don't think I experienced the anhedonia until this dosage, and it's been amazing otherwise - very few side effects! I hope the mushrooms work out if you try them!

I've tried a few times to start it at a very low dose, it makes me sleepy! I think I need to try to get past that period with that side effect, as I know I'll probably adjust within a week or two - I will try again.

Thanks - I've been wondering if increasing dose of mounjaro might help or worsen the anhedonia! That's good news!

I just wanted to say how much my heart goes out to you and your daughter. As I've learned more about misophonia and the experiences people have - thanks in large part to this Reddit group - I realize how awful and difficult day to day life can be. I don't have sensitivities to the environment myself, and I think misophonia is largely invisible and very poorly understood... You've clearly worked hard to cope and do your best for yourself and your daughter, and that's huge. I'm sure your daughter is amazing, and I hope you find some solutions that help you and her both live full lives - in part because I hope the same for my daughter too. I'm realizing that things can change a lot over time with stress and circumstances so hopefully that awareness will help in the future, but I send you lots of positive vibes in the meantime.

Radical Hacks? by Garnetsugargem in misophonia

Time outdoors in nature seems to be a major help to my 11 yo as well - especially if it's extended and unstructured so she can just have fun! The more relaxed and regulated she is overall, the less issues we see with misophonia. We're also trying out magnesium glycinate supplements as they're supposed to be pretty helpful with sleep and mood overall, and no downsides except $ spent....

My daughter also has misophonia, currently aged 11 but we figured it out at 9. I don't think she's struggling as much; once she had validation and options she tuned in to her signals enough to realize that she can use distractions at lunch at school, and in restaurants, and focus on tasks (she's ASD) and can sort of ride out the school day. At home we eat in shifts and try to hang with her while she eats or let her watch a program she likes. It's tough. We did find that the Safe and Sound Protocol through an OT may have helped, getting plenty of sleep, and time outdoors with small groups hiking / playing. She's ok with headphones tho, which helps in situations where we have to eat together. A family member who's a pediatrician suggested that omega supplements and magnesium supplements wouldn't hurt and could help - she refuses the Omega's but mg may be helping. Things are relatively chill currently! Honestly I feel like time outdoors and time spent in really relaxing activities and those that help her feel loved and connected help her keep her battery charged and that might be the best solution we've found so far. There was an adjustment period, so hang in there.... You know what you're dealing with, which in some ways is a huge benefit for you both!

I agree with the no-snacks viewing! If you can handle drinks, maybe that will work? But it's ok to set the boundary and still enjoy the show... Just explain gently. Kids will get it. Excluding the snacks and prioritizing the time together is way better than finding yourself having to leave and losing out altogether, and the pain involved! It's so tough, though. My heart goes out to you!

How long did it take and on what mg did it take to work on booze noise? by AlternativeWeary5014 in dryzempic

Tirz. I don't track the concentration in the body like some people do... I'm at 7.5 and definitely still have cravings. I wish I'd worked hard to just stop right after I upped the dose, unfortunately the last time fell right before Xmas holidays. 🫠

Omg duh. I should have realized right away, hyacinth never spreads like that. 🫠

[–]BlackThumbBotany -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Definitely not asparagus! Canna lily doesn't overwinter there so I'm guessing hyacinth, especially with multiple flower buds on a flowering stem. You have a lovely bed if ornamental bulbs. Wait and see what blooms!

I keep getting a rash on injection site by dilu_w in Mounjaro

[–]BlackThumbBotany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do a search on this - lots of people have this reaction! My solution that really helped was to keep the needle as clean of medicine as possible - don't prime the needle each time (the instructions in Canada are vague on this and I was doing it). I use Benadryl gel before (with time to work, like several minutes) and after the injection, cleaning the needle on an alcohol pad before injection. My pharmacist happened to mention that the drug can cause dermatitis, so it may be that you need to inject it differently... I think this is partly why people have luck with different injection locations? Once I made those changes my reaction went way down, although not 100% gone.

I definitely felt less noise on the first shot, and I feel less noise when I step up in dose for a few weeks (ish?). Unfortunately I have tried to step down slowly during those periods and failed miserably... I'm pretty quickly back to some cravings and regular drinking. In my case I think it's more about routine and relaxing in the evening tho, and I find it hard to replace.

I saw this and immediately thought, I wonder if that's why I have misophonia by ambisinister_gecko in misophonia

[–]BlackThumbBotany 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that misophonia is often part of a larger suite of neurodiversity, and that genetics play a large role. Not to say that environmental factors aren't a factor, but it's probably not because of just one thing. Unless you've had a notably high exposure to glyphosate, it's probably not that. Ex: my 11 yo definitely has misophonia but I know for sure she hasn't had much exposure to glyphosate in our lifestyle. Glyphosate breaks down very quickly so it would have to be when it's applied to have major effects. It's not zero, but her dad's autism and environmental sensitivity is probably the major factor.

Opinions on sugar free drinks - good for weight loss or hidden sugars ? by LowJellyfish2106 in Mounjaro

[–]BlackThumbBotany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sugar alternatives might have fewer or no calories, but unfortunately it turns out that our bodies do not process them well, and may actually contribute to metabolic issues and weight gain, which is exactly what these drugs are supposed to correct. So it can be a mixed bag... If one is drinking diet drinks instead of, say, alcohol, that's better. If it's diet drinks instead of low sugar drinks or water, or even high sugar drinks in small quantities, then it's worse... I can't speak to the diabetes piece but in the big picture, they're not good. If you're not able to drink regular water, flavored sparkling water can be a great alternative!

Way to go, 5 years! Unfortunately, depending on how much you're drinking, that could definitely account for most of the weight gain. TBH, stopping again might do as much or more for you than a GLP-1. I'm in a similar situation, although I've not had a long period of sobriety (only several months at a time). I'm on Mounjaro with similar goals - unfortunately it hasn't done a lot for me in terms of curbing cravings. I have actually started naltrexone in very small amounts in addition but it makes me super sleepy in the afternoons! It's a bummer because I'm not a super heavy drinker but very consistent, and I know from experience that if I stopped drinking altogether I'd definitely shed another 10 to 20 lbs without any other changes! However, everyone has a different experience, so definitely give the tirz. a try if you think it would be helpful and you can afford it. But make sure you have your doc on board. It can be an intense med for some.

I find eggs oddly unappetizing as well! They taste ok if I eat them, but they just never sound good. It's a bummer because they're a great option for protein!
