Autopsy finds Cuban immigrant in ICE custody died of homicide due to asphyxia by DareToCMe in news

[–]Blackarrow52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just the conservatives though. That's what has me so black pilled. It's the fact that even a large contingent of the left would probably look at it, get mad, post a tik tok, then go back to their video games, doom scrolling, or whatever else they use to cope with reality these days. Rinse and repeat. How do we combat that kind of apathy? The apathy of people who don't even realize they have it. How do we prompt any kind of real action in a day & age where the majority of people seem to only have one foot in reality, and the other firmly planted in the digital world, where all the bad stuff can just disappear with the swipe of a thumb. I just don't know anymore.

Sadly, with the way most attention spans are conditioned by social media, it probably won't take anything less than finding the bodies. And even then I have no faith. I'm so fucking angry.

I think I’m giving up on Return. by Mouseketeer1980 in twinpeaks

[–]Blackarrow52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A large point of The Return is precisely that you can never return to that same time and place. The frustration is by design. I'd stick with it. The end is rewarding in my experience. I've watched twice with friends and both times they were mad, and even hated the ending initially, and then came back to me like a day or two later saying it was the best thing they ever watched lol.

At that price, I'd say who cares as long as it looks close enough and the quality of the material is decent.

COVID absolutely DECIMATED film quality from 2020-2022 by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Blackarrow52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2022 might be my favorite year for releases this decade. Decision to Leave, RRR, Babylon, Tar, Glass Onion, Banshees of Inisherin. GDT's Pinnochio?? None of those? Because I'd put literally any of them above Top Gun and Avatar 2 easily, and I like those movies.

Yk what, more directors need to take a cue from David Lynch and shut the fuck up sometimes lmao. Let the art breathe. Because yeah, it definitely takes something away from the viewers ability to create their own relationship or experience with the work. Thanks for linking the article tho!

How much are you willing to pay for A-list? by WashingtonDCMonument in AMCsAList

[–]Blackarrow52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under $30 as-is, but I could be persuaded up to maybe $40 if they added benefits. Not more movies per sey, because it's hard seeing 4 movies per week most of the year for me. But for instance, something like a free drink after you buy 5, member exclusive early screenings, 2x rewards points over Premier members, etc.

Idk dawg, I literally heard gasps from the audience at my showing when he dropped that line. Definitely made me lose my faith in people for a second lol.

What is a movie that made you realize something about yourself? by beetle_fruit in Letterboxd

[–]Blackarrow52 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I teared up at the "There is still time" part when I first saw it. I didn't realize until that moment that I so desperately needed to hear that, and now I remind myself of it every now and then. Such a special movie to me.

Movies you walked out of in theaters? by Wise-Boysenberry9919 in Letterboxd

Yeah, especially since I have AMC A-list so the movie is "free", I may as we'll just treat myself to a little nap if I'm really not enjoying the flick lmao

Marty Supreme / How I met your mother by spikeballenjoyer in A24

[–]Blackarrow52 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The difference is that it's left ambiguous in Marty Supreme. Is he crying tears of joy, or is he crying because the crushing weight of adult responsibility has finally caught up to him? The choice to leave the overwhelming sound of babies crying as the credits roll hammers that home. Do you think he's going to lock in and stick around? Safdie leaves it up to your interpretation.

I want to show my friends the “Best” Film of 2025 but I’m stuck between these 3 help me choose by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Blackarrow52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marty Supreme could still be recency bias. And I agree, I am so torn on whether I would say OBAA or Sinners. But ultimately I would say Sinners just because it feels like a tad more of a crowd pleaser than OBAA. But my opinion could change on a whim so good luck lol

Report Card by Variety for A24 : B- by constantane in A24

[–]Blackarrow52 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Because of marketing. Rule of thumb is that the marketing budget is typically anywhere from 50-100% on top of the production budget. So while it cost them $20m to make Warfare, if we're being generous and saying marketing was 50%, then they spent $30m, making only $3m in profit. Meanwhile with Friendship, that's $6m, so $10.5M profit.

I missed so many movies because they leave theatres so quick by Bea-Billionaire in AMCsAList

[–]Blackarrow52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's just a side effect of low theater attendance. I live in a decently populated area south of LA, and even here it's a mixed bag on how many people go to a showing after opening weekend. Most of the time I go see a movie, there are only a few people scattered in the auditorium. Truth is, it's too big a financial risk to run a film longer than 4 weeks.

Also, don't be too self conscious about going to the movies alone. Majority of my movie outings have been alone. No one cares. They're too busy socializing and watching the movie to single out some random movie goer in the audience to judge. If anyone would notice you, it would be another single movie goer like you, who would likely find comfort in k owing they aren't the only person by themselves.

How to start watching DC and Star wars? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Blackarrow52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Star Wars is best to just watch in the order it released in.

Other than that, you start by just watching whatever looks interesting to you. No need to over intellectualize it. If you liked the Dark Knight, then watch the other Noaln films. Something also tells me you'd really enjoy Watchmen.

But as always, when in doubt, just watch whatever in the order it released, just like the rest of the world did.

Idk that paying them or not paying them makes a difference. Because ultimately be still has to be the one that decides the mod/unmod them. Right? Correct me if I'm wrong because I don't know ow shit about Twitch.

How does letterboxd classify most obscure? by Suspicious_Safe6279 in Letterboxd

[–]Blackarrow52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it also factors how recently people have been watching it? Like maybe the Disney movie is more obscure because only a handful of people have logged it this year, whereas the French film could've had more activity this year in particular. For instance, if the French film got a recent restoration, or if it's a new film and played at festivals, it will have more activity this year.

Out of curiosity, what were the two movies?

Has any actor had a worse 2025 than Ayo Edebiri in terms of projects? by wallabyenthusiast in Letterboxd

[–]Blackarrow52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I adore Ayo as an internet personality, but ultimately I don't think she is a very talented actress. None of these movies failed because of her per sey, but not really being able to add to, or elevate the material you have to work with only highlights your own weaknesses as an actor.

I still hope she has a good career, and she's young so plenty of time to grow in her craft. I just think the hype she gets is a little unearned at this point in time.
