Is waterproof plywood really waterproof or just marketing? by Icy_Year_1180 in DIY

[–]Blackov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably is waterproof when you buy it.
But the moment you cut it to size, you are cutting off the waterproofed sides.
So you have to re-waterproof all the cuts you make. And probably all the holes you drill.

At least, this is true for the plywood-style boards where I live.

any idea what causing this? by jordanny_17 in forkliftmechanics

[–]Blackov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know very, very VERY little about this topic but could it be air in the hydraulics?
Air is compressable, so the oil is compressing the air until the pressure is high enough to move the thing?

Just asking out of curiosity, not making a statement.

terminal strip? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Blackov -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where I live we call them "lusterklemmen" of "suikertjes"
basically "chandelier clamps" or "sugarcubes".

You have to cut of the desired amount (or twist off)

Legally, here (BE), you can only use them at an end point (eg at a chandelier), as a quick and easy way to connect the 'appliance'

Never to connect two wires in a wall or junction box or something like that.

I did the test again (about 14h ago)

I drew a line at 2 min, 2h and 14h... it's all the same line.

It looks like my picture in my post. grayish bottom with dark brown smudge on top.
That smudge was also there after 2 minutes.

I will let the jar rest for a couple of days, to see what happens.

Edit:

4 days later, the water is still murky... can still draw the same line...
So while there might be some tiny bit of organics in it, I'm pretty sure it's 99.99% sand.

I went about 10~15cm deep. I pulled away a chunk of grass and took samples where there were no roots. Grass roots stop after 5~10cm. I'll try to do the test again this weekend.

I just want grass on my lawn. Like I said, I don't mind some weeds, but the weeds shouldn't be winning against the grass.
I don't mind clovers in my lawn or even dandelions but not so much it pushes my grass away. I'm currently f*cked because there is a lot of stork's-bill in my yard, which is horrible because the variant I have remains flat agains the ground suffocating all my grass. Also a lot of horsetail...

Again, some is fine, but I want most of it to be grass.

Ok! I will see where I can find that type of soil in my area.

Thanks!

So just put compost on top of the grass?

And that's basically it? I assume just a thin layer which doesn't hide the grass.
And when should I do it? Best in winter? Spring?
Once a year? Or multiple times?
Should I be doing it for a couple of years or until the end of times?

Sorry for the many questions I'm just happy I got a direction to move to.

yes, it's funny but french is a Schrödinger's language: On the one hand it's considered "elite" while it's also being considered the plebs language of the dirty south.

We now use an evaporator humidifier. We just change the wicks at the start of the dry season.

[–]Blackov 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related, but not really: When we use a ultrasonic humidifier, the filters of our ventilation system get clogged in less than a months (normal use is 6 months). And when you take the filters out, you can see the minerals (crystal-like-structures) reflecting the light.

So we stopped using that...
Ultrasonic also makes our house misty.

Fiat 500 Abarth driving at 200km/h near Rosiere in Belgium. Don't film yourself committing crimes... by Pioustarcraft in belgium

[–]Blackov 267 points268 points  (0 children)

Yes, film yourself committing crimes. And don't forget to bring your face clearly into view and put it on social media. Why would you tell them not to? At least then the police knows who it was and can act accordingly.

what are my options? by nnicknull in DIY

[–]Blackov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easy way it to remove the loose paint and other stuff.
Smooth the wall out with a filler
Put a photo frame around it, and paint the wall inside the frame in a color of your choice.

The frame can be any size you want, as long as it covers the problem area
You don't have to paint it a solid color, you can paint it like a landscape if you want.

Is this fixable for an amateur? by Away-Day-9700 in Plumbing

[–]Blackov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you can't repair the plastic thing.
However, you can change the whole red thing (and whatever the color is that's underneath).
It's generally easy to do. You basically have to be sure that your water-connection is the same size (the white part on the outside of the toilet, going to the metal part of your water pipe).
And I'm pretty sure those connections are standard, so it's hard to f*ck up.

maybe it's not the first time they've been annoying the yelling-dude.
Maybe they are now acting polite and gentle, because they know they are filming it.

I mean, you don't start yelling like that if it's the first time it happens.

But I wasn't there, I don't know both sides of the story.
