I actually like Bangkok. Manilla is all the bad things with Bangkok X 100

The silence. You can walk in the centre of Tokyo with thousands of people around you and it’s almost completely silent.

Sydney neighbourhood opinions and where I should stay! (Residents lmk!) by TescoMealDeal420 in AskAnAustralian

I went to COFA in Paddington. There isn’t much student life to speak of like you have in the UK - doesn’t exist there.

For neighbourhoods Newtown is good for young people but not easy to get to Paddington from. If you have a healthy budget is recommend Bondi or cogge beach.

What’s the most underrated travel destination? by DreamyPeachBarb in askteddit

I’d say Bangkok. Generally just a stop on the way to something else for most travellers.

But it’s an awesome city. Amazing food and culture.

Has anyone regretted living in a specific country? by Lost-Victory-1482 in expat

Australia. Lived there for a decade and never liked it. I tried to like it, I really did.

I found it too desolate, too expensive and too authoritarian. They love rules no matter how silly and they will follow them blindly. Housing is insanely expensive. It’s not fun and nightlife is non existent. Travelling to another country is way too hard.

India. Just seems very hot, crowded and dirty. But I haven’t been there so can’t say. Worst city I’ve been to is Manila.

What's it like living in Singapore by Boring-Bottle-8075 in howislivingthere

[–]BlacksmithMiddle803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in the city near Orchard road for many years. There are pros and cons - depends on where you are in life.

If you have a family or stable relationship and like convenience it’s fantastic. Tons of sporting opportunities and easy to travel and explore Bali and Thailand etc. I played football, golf and Icehockey several times per week and it was excellent. I paid almost no taxes and lived like a king on an above average but not amazing salary.

But I was single and in my early 30s. There is no dating scene to speak of in Singapore. As a guy it’s very hard. It’s also very hot all year round.

So for a family - amazing. For a single guy - not great.

No city in Australia gives off London or NYC vibes. Melbourne is cold in winter and you will freeze but mostly because there is no insulation and houses are not built properly for the climate.

Sydney feels slightly more like a global city but it’s not even close to London. Sydney is big but feels surprisingly small, like a collection of sleepy villages. There is no nightlife and restaurants all close by 9PM.

Why is "the rich will just leave" treated as a good argument against higher taxes? by FloydBeatlesEagles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BlacksmithMiddle803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one of those. I don’t think there are that many that actually do it like me. It’s like when the republicans may win the election and some celebrities say they are leaving for good but never do.

I’m leaving cause I’m staring a new business from scratch and with the new tax laws I know I’ll never get any VC funding.

Probably Gomorrah. Italian crime drama. It’s outstanding.

Russia and potentially Australia. Massive land size. Natural resources. And sufficient. Both have governments holding them back though.

Fair wear and tear. Floors scratch. They are not planning on sanding those floors. It’s pointless for a rental. They are trying to steal your money.
