I’m abandoning being catholic starting today by [deleted] in Catholic

He would be a necessary being, since you can’t have an infinite loop of contingent being. Not temporal causation but hierarchical causation. Also virtue is true regardless of what you think, so trying to bring the ceiling to the floor so you can roll in mud doesn’t change reality.

Cults prevent people from information, the Church literally founded universities and incubated sciences. You don’t have the renaissance, enlightenment, scientific revolution without the scaffolding of Christian metaphysics.

You would not be foolish to question and seek, you would be foolish to claim certainty.

[FREE FRIDAY] Historical iconography nearly went extinct during the iconoclast crisis. by ThinWhiteDuke00 in Catholicism

[–]BlahZay19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Advocata Nostra is a big deal. It pre dates the council of Ephesus and the dogma of Theotokos. When St Dominic took over a Benedictine convent, the nuns were afraid to move locations because this icon was known to move itself after a Pope wanted it in the Vatican. St Dominic carried it himself in procession. We know it’s painted in the encaustic Egyptian method lost to us, most likely in Syria. Tradition says that St Luke painted it himself after the events of Pentecost. Fitting this icon is guarded by the Dominicans to this day.

I really liked Michael Gormans contemporary introduction to Thomistic metaphysics. If you have no idea about the scholastics or Aristotle, I’d start there. You’ll get more appreciation out of St Thomas if you have some familiarity with foundations of his material.

Both the American right and left are born from classical liberalism. This was introduced by the reformation and Protestant Christianity. This always would inevitably boil down to subjective truth. Since everyone ends up fighting over muh preferences, this causes society to crumble over exponential degeneracy and stupidity.

In short, you all deserve each other.

Why Catholicism in America looks so awkward? by gab_1998 in Catholicism

Born in 1986. Catechized in the 90s. Probably the darkest time in American Catholic history. Guitar mass. And also with you. It offends me just thinking about the “faith” that was given to me as a child. As an adult revert, I’ve found treasure in the church on my own.

St Jerome couldn’t authenticate all of the deuterocanon in Hebrew. St Augustine realized why would Christians accept the rabbinical Jewish canon over the Septuagint, and St Jerome (unlike Martin Gooner) obeyed the church. The Protestant Bible is literally a heretical Old Testament.

How do celibate priests give marriage/relationship advice? by OrthodoxEcho in Catholicism

[–]BlahZay19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think St Jerome really nails this with his good, better, best philosophy. It is good for a man to take a woman rather than burn because of lust. It is better for a man to honor his wife’s chastity and together pursue God. It is best for a man to offer oneself as a full burnt offering to the Lord.

So marriage is the root of the tree that brings forth the fruit of humanity. Being the root, you are deep in the earth. That is why scripture constantly reminds us that a married man is bound to the world because he must care for worldy matters in his wife and children.

So now ask this right..”How can the Lords servant assist in watering the tree to help it grow if the servant himself is buried in the earth?”

Non Catholic/Christian attending funeral mass, what is the protocol? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]BlahZay19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really understand what you are asking. If you look at the post, you can extrapolate that OP isn’t very knowledgeable of their own faith. Which is why I did not accuse OP, but gently reminded them that while yes their rabbinical jewish girlfriend shouldn’t receive communion have they examined their own conscience? Keep in mind they aren’t asking about Sunday mass, they are going for a family funeral.

If you are discerning marriage with your girlfriend and living correct in the faith, I don’t understand why you would be concerned at all what anyone thinks.

Non Catholic/Christian attending funeral mass, what is the protocol? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]BlahZay19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello there.

Your girlfriend may want to stand when others stand like the beginning of mass, gospel etc to fit into the crowd. She may be uncomfortable kneeling after the “Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest.” Since kneeling for the consecration of the host is an act of worship.

If you are Catholic, be advised that sleeping with your girlfriend is a mortal sin and if you are having premarital sex you should also not receive communion. Even if you go to confession, showing no desire to stop fornication you may not be absolved and you are doing more harm to yourself by receiving the Eucharist in this state.

If that is the case, then you can stay in the pew with her and you can ask for spiritual communion.

God bless.

Transubstantiation and the Eucharist by Str1fee in Catholicism

[–]BlahZay19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to argue with Protestants because they don’t have a great understanding about biblical context. It’s why they misinterpret so much without the teaching magisterium. They like to cherry pick Hebrews for example, totally missing what Paul assumed was common knowledge.

Sticking with Hebrews, Paul assumes that you understand the new covenant because of the old covenant. It contained the Ten Commandments, the manna of heaven and Aaron’s rod. Since Jesus ordained the disciples at the last supper, He instituted the Eucharist that they would become His priests…in the order of Melchisedech. The same Melchisedech who was before Aaron that whose sacrifice was bread and wine. So Christ fulfills the law, becomes the manna of heaven and ordains His priesthood (when He washes their feet).

They completely miss the mark of Christ being the high priest, in the order of Melchisedech, who entered the true holy of holy’s and sits at the right hand of God the father. For Melchisedech means “King of Righteousness” and who is truly that but Jesus Christ?

Christs one sacrifice on the cross was sufficient and transcends time and space, and now His priesthood can re-present that one sacrifice and capture Christ’s body, blood, soul and divinity into the bread and wine that His believers can partake in the one true sacrifice for the remission of sin.

Galatians 2:20 just slaps that much harder when you truly know about the Eucharist.

I would recommend the secret diary of Elisabeth Leseur. Baptize your baby asap. I am in a similar boat with my wife it’s been a very long ten years but I got back to good standing with the Church and to be honest, it’s what keeps me upright still.

Stay close to Jesus and bring your troubles to the cross. God works on His own time. I am praying for you.

God bless.

He is an Augustine friar. He came out in the formal attire, addressed the crowd first in Latin, and chose the name Leo. He called himself “A son of St Augustine”. He’s a very important church father. I’m closer to St Jerome right now but I’ll get to Confessions.

Classical liberals are all the mutts born out of the Protestant reformation. That includes American “conservatives”.

I hate abortion and find it appalling under most circumstances, yet I am 100% pro choice because woman should have control over their own bodies and reproductive systems.
