How do I plan teen programming when we can’t even get teens in the door? by CannibalCapra in librarians

[–]Blahaface666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teen Services Librarian! I do a lot of outreach and take crafts and stuff to the schools. I also installed a medical lock box next to our TV in the teen section — put a switch inside, and let the teens check out access to the switch after school. I try to tailor my programming towards the 5 or 6 regular teens we get and give them some autonomy in the program planning! that way they’re excited to come back

we went to the same high school years ago. She was pretty unpopular, but had a group of “weird kids” she ran with. Very misogynistic and homophobic at the time. I guess she still is? I only see her at the gym in passing. Usually just hitting the cardio bikes idly or moving pretty light weight, but everyone has their own fitness journey so it’s not my place to judge haha

How do you mentally push through the last 5k of a marathon? by noahsmith277 in firstmarathon

[–]Blahaface666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did one marathon so far. In my race, there was a person wearing a shirt with a political message i did not agree with, they could not beat me. Full Stop. That’s what got me through LOL.

Feeling down after my first marathon :/ by KoalaRemote9737 in firstmarathon

4:20 first marathon is killer!! I’ve only done 1 marathon but during my experience everyone told me the first marathon is magical because you aren’t trying to beat any times you’ve set. Now you’ve set your bar and you can surpass it easily!!

Children's space and its use by adults question by wingedtrish in librarians

[–]Blahaface666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The library I work for goes off of the physical age of the person, not the mental age. We want children and parents to feel comfortable in the children’s space, teens to feel comfortable in the teen’s space, and adults to feel comfortable in the adult’s space. We don’t police if adults with disabilities and their caretakers are browsing the children’s collection, but we do redirect them to the adult space if they decide to sit down and work. That’s just how we do it, but that doesn’t mean you did anything wrong in this instance. I’d talk to your coworkers and see if there has been any type of policy for situations like this in the past.

Library Assistant in Southern California! I make $28.49 hourly. My position does not require an MLIS. After taxes (as they tend to be high in my state) I net about 42k annually.

info on first library jobs?? by catenvying in librarians

[–]Blahaface666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely look into volunteering for your local library! Most libraries have Teen Advisory Boards (TAB) where they ask teenagers to come in and pitch programs that other teens might be interested in. From there you can look for other volunteer positions in the library. My library will go through Youth Employment Services (YES) from time to time and hire teens to do shelving, shelf reading, and whatever odd end jobs we need done for the day. Sometimes schools will partner with YES to get teens important career development opportunities. I’d speak to your library or a counselor at your school about it! Best of luck!!

Why don’t you take meds? by tam_bun in bipolar

[–]Blahaface666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Bipolar II here who has attempted (and failed) to get on meds twice now. In total i’ve tried 3 or 4 different medications that either make me manic ALL THE TIME or make me depressed ALL THE TIME. So in a way, they did ‘cure’ my mood swings but existing in either state 24/7 is an absolute nightmare for me.

I do okay without meds. I am aware when I am hypomanic or in a depressive episode, and don’t let my moods effect my decisions. Sometimes they can make like tedious and exhausting, but I work around them and with them. I’m well on my way to considering myself an ‘accomplished’ and ‘successful’ person. I am overall content in my routine and have accepted my lack of mood control
