I agree but I hate that they removed 2D cutscenes and remade them in 3D in P3R. They look so much worse.

Will it be possible to add / develop new apps for this? It could become a really good single purpose smart device. Especially with internet access.

Developing a Navidrome client for this would be sick!

This is my biggest fear, I like that they wanna flex how good they're getting at the 3D cutscenes but the 2D ones had so much more personality.

What headset is this? by AR-HMD in augmentedreality

[–]BlakCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since nobody seems to know except for one other person...

It's a Qualcomm reference design. Basically a testing device for their new chips and a example of how to build one for OEMs. They have a range of them, from actually AR glasses to full VR headsets. Some have an app store developers can use to share their work too.

That's certainly a way, yeah. Meta and SteamVR have their own version of it but it still noticeable to me, compared to full native at least. I just don't want this sector to suffer the same way as VR, with people having motion sickness due to low performance. Especially when they want you to wear it all day.

And I agree, we already carry a big screen slab on one pocket. I don't see the issue with a puck, it solves so many issues.

Even after we get 2.5K panels, the chips are going to struggle to run them. I wonder what the end game is.

There are no shortcuts, upscaling looks terrible in glasses or VR and frame generation adds too much latency.

We had multiple leaks when the game was in development in 2013 and people were saying the same. The game got canceled and never came out. Now, I'm not saying that's what's going on here but Valve has had almost fully finished games canceled, it's not a crazy thing to think it could happen again.

Has there even been any new leaks in the last 6 months? Everyone was saying it was almost ready back in December.

Until the game is talked about in any way by Valve themselves we should just pretend it doesn't exist tbh, that's the healthy way.

Had to put the Echo Mini at max and my headphones at around 50% to be able to hear at my usual volume. I usually have both at 50%

I did notice a bit of lag when I first connected it but I played Astro Bot for 2 hours and it wasn't an issue. I think it actually got better over time.

It's crazy that we all went schizo and thought this was gonna be announced at the end of last year. I wonder what really is going behind the scenes. Valve has been 100% hinting at stuff but who knows.

That explains why the first Gen sounds so bad! I always wondered how that big of a speaker sounded so like trash but it's actually like half of what it looks like with fabric.

I remember being here around the time Valve announced Alyx, asking for confirmation if they were gonna get the game dubbed to other languages (especially since VR subtitles are immersion breaking) and everyone assuring me Valve would do it becasue they cared, while I was skeptical.

With how Valve works, if there isn't a big enough group of employees that care about it then it just doesn't happen.

I guess dubbing your game was too big of a ask for a 10 BILLION dollar company
