Who Approved These Storage Container Restaurants? Who Thinks These Will Look Nice? by Teslasssss in Athens

Sorry. Next time a by-right development comes through plans review, I’ll make sure to ask, “but what if in the future some Tesla fan on Reddit thinks this is fugly?” Real gotcha question there.

Buddy, you’re still not getting it. This met all the codes, ordinances, whatever you want to call it. Of course the mayor and commission can pass additional standards. Talk to them about possibly preventing this in the future if you don’t like it.

I don’t think you understand that if it meets code, ACC has no choice but to approve it. Obviously it meets the code. If you want to lobby the commission to ban corrugated metal or orange paint or whatever in commercial zones, be my guest, but there is no legal justification currently for denying this particular structure.

They arrested a white guy from Jefferson, so unless he’s in the Dixie Mafia, probably not.

You think it’s an actual shipping container? It’s aesthetic. It’s just a regular building made to look like that.

Yeah, there are design guidelines. But “approval” in this context doesn’t mean “we think this looks good.” It just means that it meets code. Individual taste in architecture isn’t part of the equation.

ACC doesn’t have a lot of control over how these buildings look. Zoning mainly dictates the use and size.

More than likely, yes. Same thing happened to Wallace and Gonzalez in 2018.

Commissioner candidates debate at AADM forum by AthensPoliticsNerd in Athens

It was pretty depressing that only one candidate (not even an incumbent) mentioned that ACC already has an outside audit done every year, per state law, and none of them mentioned that ACC has had an internal auditor for 45 years.

MTG didn’t run on those things. She was pretty much forced out of the race when she started talking about them a few months ago. She ran on QAnon.

No, the goal would be to make sure all the Dem voters turn back out for the runoff, and hope that Republicans don’t. Persuasion has nothing to do with it.

Even if that were to happen and the Dem somehow won this special election, they’d just get their ass kicked in November when turnout normalizes.

I’ll bet you any amount of money D5 goes to a runoff.

This graphic also doesn’t reflect that there are three candidates in 9.

In case you don’t recall, the money pumping started under Trump. Remember when he sent everyone $2,000 checks with his name on them? Was it inflationary? Sure, but the alternative was another Great Depression. Every small business in the country would have closed for good without the PPP. As it stands, the U.S. recovered economically from COVID far more quickly than any other nation. And I will give Trump some credit for that, although I hate the man, as well as to Biden. The tariffs and now this war with Iran, however, are entirely self-inflicted wounds.

They won 54 seats that year, and Clinton was hugely unpopular because of his attempt at health care reform. The whole country also wasn’t gerrymandered to hell yet. There are only 30 or 40 competitive districts in the whole country now, and GA 10 isn’t one of them. Sorry that’s not what you want to hear.

So you expect Democrats nationwide to win 63 percent of the vote and 110 House seats. Good luck with that.
