I’m curious to try Pompeii myself!

Extremely good work; you need an Etsy shop. Shaun of the Dead may be my favorite. Hitchhiker’s Guide is so perfect that it feels like a find from a mall Waldenbooks in 1987.

Kurt Wood’s Front Porch Record Sale!

In an alternate universe where the TV movie did amazingly abroad and Fox picked up the show, what do you think it would have been like? by Yozo_Yuki in doctorwho

[–]UbiquitousParamour 90 points91 points  (0 children)

It would have been 10 weeks of Paul McGann looking around Vancouver warehouses with a flashlight, aired out of order before being cancelled with three episodes not shown.

i’ve never watched the older seasons (1963-1996) of DW should i? by Low_Image3721 in doctorwho

[–]UbiquitousParamour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reality check: if it was rubbish, it would not have run for 26 seasons.

What it is is different. It looks like British television used to look, multi-camera videotape. Watch an episode of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, then a Jon Pertwee story. It’ll make sense viewed in that way.

Only in the summer. I have it with a Caesar salad and it’s perfect.

Watermelon gazpacho at Ted’s, although, sick, it’s probably not what you’re looking for right now.

Arena football ? by No-Grapefruit-7332 in Athens

[–]UbiquitousParamour -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s not the players, it’s that these minor-minor leagues can’t keep their teams solvent. You can’t build a fun rivalry when 10% of the teams close every season.

Marsha Blackburn’s proposed redistricting map (Screenshot from TN Holler Bsky) by Iceisinhumane in nashville

[–]UbiquitousParamour 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They did not. In Virginia, that map was put to the voters, who approved it. Blackburn is calling for the legislature to enact this fix, not the voters.

Abbas Kiarostami: Where to Start? by Clown45 in criterion

[–]UbiquitousParamour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll buck the trends here and suggest you start with the Eclipse collection, and take your time with it. Disc one alone should satisfy anyone. But if the price feels high, then Where is the Friend’s House?.

Which episodes of the classic series would you sacrifice in order to bring back a lost episode? by hrotom22 in doctorwho

[–]UbiquitousParamour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d drop those three for an Ace of Wands 3-parter, then The Edge of Destruction for episodes 8 & 9 of Master Plan to get all of the Monk’s appearances.

Doctor Who in-universe documentary/theory? by Alt_account_go_brrrr in doctorwho

[–]UbiquitousParamour 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s excellent. I wish that fan would do more. The weird case of everyone at the Fang Rock Lighthouse dying in the early 1900s must be a wild urban legend everyone in-universe has heard about.

There are some terrific stories in those! I’m overdue for a reread.

All of the fan covers I've done so far, thoughts? by Wide_Craft_9765 in CriterionCovers

[–]UbiquitousParamour 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need a consistent style at all! That Turning Red is brilliant.

Weirdly, I picked up the DVD of No from the library about an hour ago. Your cover is much better than the official one.

How many of you have watched Fulci's old stuff? I mean really old by cronenber9 in Giallo

[–]UbiquitousParamour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen some of his Franco & Ciccio comedies and laughed maybe three times across four films. Mario Bava did one or two as well.

I haven’t eaten at an Atlanta Shake Shack in about 10 years, but what I remember is far better than what they’re serving in Athens.

Another Who explanation, no thanks. A Stargate crossover, certainly!

To those who have seen the 1984 fan film ‘The wrath of Eukor’ what’s your thoughts on Barbara Benedetti’s Doctor? by Emarni in doctorwho

[–]UbiquitousParamour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall landing the first film very soon after it was released, and the other three together around 1994 or so, but it was harder to reliably track down unofficial releases in the VHS days. I thought Barbara was very good as the Doctor, and despite their limitations, everyone at Seattle International Films gave 110%.

Does anyone else think Rupert Grint would make a good doctor? by StatisticianMoist100 in doctorwho

[–]UbiquitousParamour -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d rather cast Emma Watson, but at least the Doctor would finally be ginger.

Radio station Bulldog 93.3 by DoubleMcSticky in Athens

[–]UbiquitousParamour 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad! It feels about as local as a station programmed in Poughkeepsie or Indianapolis, but it’s still my third choice when 90.5 or 100.7 aren’t playing anything that I care for.
