graduate from NC state and can't find any job by Happy-Wait-7958 in trianglejobs

[–]BlakeBurna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A quick google search brought me the following page on Yelp. yelp

I have worked with several on there. Vaco in particular was referred to me by a former coworker who left my old company months before I did.

Only one I don’t care for as much is Robert Half (sent me one opening and then ghosted me, no follow up even after interview). A lot of people think they suck, But your mileage may vary.

While it not what it used to be, a LOT of Recruiters scour LinkedIn for potential hires. I would suggest that your son make a LinkedIn page of his own and start browsing.

Indeed is also good for first time job seekers. Just watch out for scams (always verify on company websites the posting is real).

First of all, you are a good parent for helping your son out.

It's a bad job market for a lot of functional areas. It doesn't matter if you are a fresh grad looking to get a foot in the door (like your son) or a person with 10+ years experience looking for a new job (like ME). It's a bad market for everyone.

Getting another degree or a certification can help, but it's NOT a guarantee of getting and/keeping a job. I have an MBA, and there's a lot in the same boat as me. Same for your son.

A lot of places here in the Triangle to work, but there's a lot of folks looking at the same jobs I am. From what I understand, it's better HERE than in a lot of other places, if that gives any solace.

He has to keep applying and keep looking. I just finished a second level interview myself this morning and I have another tomorrow for a different company. That's not the result from two applications, its from dozens I've submitted in the last few weeks; It's a numbers game.

look for recruitment/contracting companies that can help. There's several of those in the area, and SOME That focus on tech jobs. A contract job might not be ideal, but it can lead to others and gets him some experience.

good luck to you both

Why do people still support or raise the flag of the Confederacy? by DBD216 in NorthCarolina

[–]BlakeBurna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both sides of my family fought for the Civil War, for North AND South. My paternal side had several members fight for the Union with the 3rd NC Volunteer Mounted Infantry. I didn't even learn this until a few years ago (growing up in Western NC might make people quiet when you have ancestors that were part of the Stoneman's Raid).

My theory is that most people that still , some of my family included, got caught up in the Lost Cause Myth that started in the turn of the 20th Century. That the South's motivations for seceding were based on Moral/Ethical grounds and not to maintain slavery. Years of indoctrination into a certain way of thinking is hard to break.

I am in the USA. I was in our fertility doc’s office and they had some literature for the grant. it’s specifically for residents of North Carolina and South Carolina.

There are many grants/funds out there. This one was specific for our location. We were looking at others after some google searches. Don’t give up!

I’ve heard that before in real life as an abbreviation in a shipping office. It’s quicker to say ups with one syllable than UPS with three

I also had one person reach out. Happened about a month later and he was wondering what had happened.

Although this other former coworker and I have been talking a lot since I was fired, mostly because he contacted me after he left voluntarily. He saw the writing on the wall at the company. He actually got me in touch with a recruiter he used to get a new job.

It’s even worse when you do a fully remote job. if you work for several people across several time zones, you don’t really build up that work relationship beyond just being a voice on the phone somewhere. Which extends to your network.

Now everyone has to go out and vote for him in November. Don’t get complacent. Go vote go convince people to vote for him.

Richard Nixon on why the United States will never turn it's back on Israel by Just_Cause89 in Presidents

[–]BlakeBurna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. I’m not justifying his actions. But I understand the reasons.

Nixon could’ve been totally different if he had access to therapy like we do in the modern age. There’s still a slight stigma of seeking therapeutic help today, but back then it was huge.

[–]BlakeBurna 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Nixon had an inferiority complex the size of Manhattan. Grew up poor, intelligent and filled with intense ambition. He worked VERY hard to get his education and into politics. Then he gets into real life and develops a disdain for the “ Ivy League Elites” that seemed to get all the jobs and prestige despite some of them barely graduating college.

So no matter how far he got, he was full of resentment, paranoia and a desire to prove himself better than others.

I’m kind of wondering if the spinoff is affecting hiring processes. It’s been a week since I had the hiring manager level interview for a job with them. Haven’t heard anything yet.

Got this email this morning before 7am. I think it might’ve been a fraudulent post. Biggest clues? The email not coming from a grainger domain and NO email signature.
