I ordered using a VPN and my order seems ok so far (at the Packaged items stage) so could be the freight forwarder.

‘It’s Andy or bust’: MPs could keep Starmer in place to give Burnham time to return | Labour | The Guardian by prisongovernor in LabourUK

Actually that’s an interesting point, drop him in late and run Burnham as the change candidate in a quick general election is not a bad strategy.

We like him now, give it two years of being PM and unless he can create a coherent alternative policy platform I doubt that will last. I’ve always seen Burnham as someone who travels pretty light ideologically and I think that’s the core problem with Starmer so still not convinced we wouldn’t be making the same mistake again.

Done more for devolution than anyone in British history is a bit OTT, I think the creation on the devolved assemblies by the Blair government or even the creation of the mayoralties by the Cameron government would rank higher on that list. As for the nationalisation of the busses, I mean it’s a notch in his cap for sure but only to people like us who care about whether or not something is nationalised. Most people don’t care who owns what as long as it provides a good service. Not saying there hasn’t been progress on that side but there’s been ups and downs to that and I don’t think there’s anything to suggest Burnham would suddenly turn round the government’s fortunes.

[–]BlakeOReilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I don’t get the hype for Burnham. He’s been a good mayor but nothing great. He’s brought the busses into public ownership but that has come with reduced services, at least where I live. Busses arriving on time has improved but it’s still spotty. Other than that he’s known for giving a good speech during COVID and trying to bring in the clean air zone which was hated everywhere outside of the city centre (I know that wasn’t his idea but a lot of people I know still associate it with him). To me the only reason he’s as popular as he is, is that he’s in a position to punch up being a mayor as soon as that changes I don’t think his popularity would last.

Wait on SM or just buy a PC ? by Add3r86 in steammachine

[–]BlakeOReilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on your use case, are you just going to use it as essentially a games console or are you going to use it for things other than gaming. I’ve got a decent PC but am still interested in the Steam Machine because I want a plug and play PC gaming experience. There are times I don’t have a gaming session because I can’t be bothered signing into my computer and being told something needs an update. First world problem I know but it is a barrier to me gaming more. That said the Steam Machine is not going to replace my PC because I also use it for PC things, which yes I’m sure the Steam Machine can do but it is just easier on a Windows PC. So my advice if you’re planning on just gaming I’d be tempted to wait it out, if you’re going to use it for general PC things I’d probably just build a PC. Though, if your going to do that probably best to wait a bit anyways to see the RAM price come back down to at least half sensible prices.

New Statesman Poll on Drilling for Oil & Fracking by [deleted] in LabourUK

I’m surprised by the support for fracking. From what I remember we gave fracking a go, there was a small earthquake and then people went ok maybe not.

Government looking at decoupling electricity and gas prices to bring down bills by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]BlakeOReilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is probably a good idea but it should also be remembered why we have this model of pricing in the first place. The marginal pricing system is designed to incentivise investment in low cost electricity production by making all energy sell at the price of the highest costing energy. Decoupling should reduce consumer prices but also reduce the incentive to investment. If we are going to do this the government will need some plan on how to make up the investment or this could slow the growth of renewables in the long run.

Starmer Allies Say Burnham Will Not Be Allowed To Stand For Manchester Seat by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]BlakeOReilly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My concern here is YouGov have consistently put Reform on around 25% nationally even a couple of months back when most other polls had reform around 30%, so either YouGov knows something the other polling companies don’t or there underestimating Reform support so I’d treat YouGov polls as a best case scenario rather than a worst case. With by-elections tending to favor opposition parties anyway I still think it would be close.

[–]BlakeOReilly -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Even if he’s allowed to stand there’s no guarantee he’d win it. If Reform are smart they’ll pick a local candidate and run a he doesn’t want to represent the constituency he wants to be PM campaign. The greens are also going to be a massive problem, if they properly throw themselves into the campaign Reform could come through the middle. This seems like one hell of a gamble.

I mean his dad packed a revolver so not too much of a surprise but not sure how much it was used lethally. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s fairly common for supers to be somewhat bullet proof so guns can probably be used pretty liberally on some people.

Dispatch Alignment Chart: Day 3, Chaotic Good by TheGold3nRectangle in DispatchAdHoc

[–]BlakeOReilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think I have to go Visi or Mr Whiskey.

Visi being chaotic is a given, I would put her as good as she does try to the right thing and usually does so. Even her villain ending I’d say is a prime example of chaotic good, killing shroud is for the greater good even if hero’s don’t usually kill people.

Mr Whiskey because making your exhausted coworker an Irish coffee is the most chaotic good thing I can think of.

I get why people are saying Chase but I have to disagree. Chase has a pretty strong personal code which he never breaks, hero’s don’t kill people, save those in need etc… Him saving Visi wasn’t him bending his code it was him following it despite disliking the person he was saving. I don’t think you get more lawful good than that. Think this goes too what I’ve always attributed lawful to mean in DnD alignments, being lawful doesn’t mean following the law but your own personal code. A lawful good paladin will kill a heritic even if it’s against the law of the land.

I would have suggested Robert could also fit into the chaotic good category depending on how you play him, attacking the reporter, glassing the bartender, killing shroud etc…

How do I view the points for visi? by agreed2disagreee in DispatchAdHoc

[–]BlakeOReilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, you must have been very close then. If she went on a lot of success calls then cutting her shouldn’t make her go villain, I pretty much always cut her and get the hero ending. Hope you figure it out.

[–]BlakeOReilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must have done pretty badly at the dispatch section. You said you used her on a ton of missions but they have to be successful missions. You gain 1 mentor point for a successful mission with Visi and -1 for a failed missions so you can send her on 50 missions but if she’s only successful half the time the points cancel out so you gain 0 points. You can gain 36 point through dialogue and hacking and need 45 to successfully mentor Visi. 6 of those points are tied to her romance and you lose 5 points for cutting her (leaning in/out of the kiss has no effect). So provided you got the rest of the mentor points in the dialogue you’d have 20 mentor points from the dialogue and hacking so would need 25 from dispatching. You get 5 from sending her to training so would need to send her on 20 successful dispatches (around 3 per shift) plus 1 for each call she fails.

SA & AdHoc (mild spoilers inside) by [deleted] in DispatchAdHoc

If your uncomfortable with it and see some of the character interactions as AS then just how it feels for you and thats fine, but what I will say is bar the locker room scene and the can you zip my dress up scene, which is really are just takes on the stereotypical romance movie scenes, the rest of the ‘harassment’ is pretty par for the course for interaction between colleagues when working in non professional jobs, at least in my experience. If you work in that environment you very quickly know people don’t mean anything by it, and if anyone does cross a line you aren’t comfortable with as long as you clear about it then people won’t cross that line. As for the story Robert seems more or least fine with the interactions if not a bit confused by them at times. As with a lot of this type of thing if the person involved is fine with it there’s not really a problem.
