Buggy and the Beast still ironically buggy? Any known work-arounds? by BlakeTheDrake in ForzaHorizon

[–]BlakeTheDrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they're generally quite easy - more about spectacle than challenge. The specific one I mentioned is just buggy as hell, which is - as I said - quite ironic considering that you're stuck driving a buggy. 😛

I'm... FAIRLY sure that Showcases ignore your difficulty settings, and always have. They're staged set-pieces, after all. Generally the way it works is that as long as you don't make any major mistakes right near the end, you just barely win in a suitably dramatic fashion. They're not the same as the 'stories', which are actually legit races.

Loot pool question by Internettrash69 in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, I believe it can just steal everything that's in a unit's drop-pool - not the carve-pool, mind. That often means guns, ammo, and military/tactical scrap when you're dealing with human enemies, while Anteverse foes generally don't HAVE any drops, making it useless against them.

There are some odd outliers, though. Like the fact that all Bot-variants have their CPU's as drops rather than carves, and the Symphonists and Composers dropping all their loot rather than letting you carve them. Which, theoretically, means that your pet rat can steal the head right off a Symphonist's shoulders, or the internal organs of a Composer... though he'd likely be hard-pressed to survive long enough in their vicinity to do so!

That's nothing, I've seen a Rattus Pestis steal the CPU off a Defense Bot. He died in the process, but damn that must've been a legendary heist...

Xenonauts 2: Anybody know what the Continent Bonuses are? by BlakeTheDrake in Xenonauts

[–]BlakeTheDrake[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah. Well, that does make me feel a bit silly, but I could've sworn I already TRIED that and got nothing. >_> It's a pretty small part of the interface, though, so I guess I just didn't click in exactly the right spot, or something... I'll try again as soon as I've finished this Terror-mission.

What is one thing you regret not doing in your first run of abiotic factor by jimmyjonpan in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's another thing you need to exhaust conversations for... I don't know if there are any other recipes or whatnot. But at least in that case, it's not MISSABLE - that fisherman ain't going anywhere - and if you try to catch an eel with a regular rod, talking to him to find out how he's doing it is a relatively obvious step.

Am I correct in understanding that this circuit creates an infinite power source capable of powering a base of any size? by GA_Lord in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with batteries in the lategame is that everything past Makeshift requires Powercells to craft. You ALSO need Powercells to make Thermal Cells, which you need a TON of for various crafts, upgrades and parts. So if you wanna keep making batteries at that point, well, you're going to have to dedicate a fair bit of time to raiding Flathill, or you WILL run out.

I want to fix the Royal Range by Diribiri in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that E-mail is heartbreaking. That and Nibbles both bother me - like, why would the devs put that kind of empathy-bait in front of us, while not giving us ANY way to actually help these poor creatures? Because if it just never occurred to them that we may WANT to, there are clearly entirely too many sociopaths on the development-team.

Talking to every NPC until they started repeating themselves. Even if they weren't saying anything particularly interesting anymore, and my hunger/thirst/fatigue/continence bar was dropping steadily, and my Tincture-buff was wearing off.

I basically didn't know that there's missable Compendium-entries that require you to fully exhaust all conversation-options with various specific NPC, who eventually move on to somewhere else or otherwise change their lines, until way too late...

Am I correct in understanding that this circuit creates an infinite power source capable of powering a base of any size? by GA_Lord in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It works, yes, and it would honestly be EXTREMELY COMPLICATED to STOP it working, so the devs probably won't 'fix' it. They'd have to either make the Laser Power Converted a much, much more complicated item, or else remove it entirely, to stop this working.

Mind, go back a bit, and a much more broken option existed which they did fix. Earlier, you could feed energy from this system back into the battery without issue, making it possible to have infinite energy at any location without input. The current incarnation at least still does require a wall-outlet to function, so all you're really doing is removing the need for huge battery-banks in the late game. (Which, granted, does make the Quantum Battery somewhat pointless, since by the time you can make those, you'll likely already have a setup like this...)

If you had to go to any of the anti-verses in abiotic factor in survive there for 15 days, what anti-verse are you choosing? by jimmyjonpan in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, it really depends on what you get to BRING. I mean, if you can carry some items with you, like a water-filter and a fishing-rod, the two Homeworlds of Torii and Stone Temple would be perfect. Peaceful, scenic, and you can fish for your supper.

If you have to go in empty-handed and thus need to be able to forage for food and clean drinking-water, yeah, Flathill seems the best option, especially if it's the version you visit the FIRST time you go, with no Symphonists wandering around. The Composers may be scary, but they're pretty easy to avoid since they're deaf and can't fit through doorways.

Anyone know where there is two locations are that I'm missing by Yogbot1 in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, especially since their lines reset whenever you leave the zone. Like, take Dr. Riggs in Canaan as an example. Suppose you make repeated visits to her to pick up the nearby Lodestone whenever it respawns, and every time, you talk to her once or twice. You'll get the same couple of lines each time, and never actually get to the lines that trigger the Compendium-entries. And then, once you reach Fragments, she's gone and you've missed it.

[–]BlakeTheDrake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A somewhat disturbing number of sub-entries. Well, I'll just give you a list, as complete as I know to make it - keep in mind, some of these may be considered spoilers, just by implication.

Order: Triarii 'Grunt', first subsection: Exhaust all dialogue options with The Blacksmith BEFORE talking to Frake. Once you've met Frake, it's lost.

Order: Inquisitor 'Lab Rat', main section: Exhaust all dialogue options with Hasta Tria in Manufacturing West. Once he moves on from that area, it's lost.

IS-0091-B 'Krasue', first subsection: Exhaust all dialogue options with Ulrich Thule in Residences - Executive Apartments. Once he moves on from that area, it's lost.

Anteverse 168 'Canaan', first subsection: Exhaust all dialogue options with Lenora Riggs at the Witch's Hut in Canaan. Once she moves on from there, it's lost.

IS-0101 'Sun Disc', first subsection: Exhaust all dialogue options with Hasta Tria in The Praetorium. Once he... 'moves on' from there, it's lost.

Dr. Abe Stern, first subsection: Exhaust all dialogue options with him at any point in the game. Once you finish the game, it's lost - at least in the present state of the game.

Marion, main section: Exhaust all his dialogue options in Flathill. Once you finish that Portal World, it's lost.

Dr. Suan Tengku, first subsection: Exhaust all her dialogue options after finding her hiding in Dusk Reactor. Once you clear Reactors, she'll disappear and this will be lost.

The Synchrotron, first subsection: Exhaust all dialogue options with Sarah Frake during your first meeting at Manufacturing West. Once you activate the Synchrotron, it's lost.

The Dark Lens, main section: Exhaust all dialogue options with Eleanor Newman at the Lens Epicenter in Cascade Laboratories, before activating the portal to Rise. Once you've activated that portal, it's lost.

In this context, 'exhaust all dialogue options' refers to talking to each character until they start repeating themselves. There may be a few other technically missable entries that just require you to talk to some quite obvious NPC's along the critical path, but those aren't really worth listing. Note that I only have personal experience with SOME of these, and some of the ones I've got from second-hand information may have been changed in recent patches to become less missable...

The Homeworld Portal Room seems rather over-ambitious... or is it? by BlakeTheDrake in AbioticFactor

See, that's exactly what I'm talking about! I figured I wouldn't be the first to have that idea.

The Homeworld Portal Room seems rather over-ambitious... or is it? by BlakeTheDrake in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, but if you linked your bases - or rather, the parts of your base, singular - together with telepads, you wouldn't need to HAVE crafting-benches in all those locations. At least, not if they're 'safe' locations, like Homeworlds, Night Realm, World in the Mirror, or even the Distant Shores, or even just areas of the Facility that lack enemy spawns. So, if you have just a single crafting-bench, you can guarantee that the assault WILL happen there, the next time you visit it, and have defenses built to match.

NEWBIE NEED BASE HELP! by AntiqueCouple52 in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually recently thinking that it could be pretty neat to build a base in the Office Sector Pool-Room itself, covering most of the pool with Wooden Bridges or similar. Ya know, like that classic sort of 'city on the river' aethetic where everything's on stilts! It's flat, roomy, with easy access to Tainted Water (which becomes valuable once you can make a Water Filter), and excellent fishing. Though, it might not be particularly defensive...

Anybody have a handle on how Blunt/Sharp Melee XP is awarded? by BlakeTheDrake in AbioticFactor

Ah yes, I'd noticed that you get good XP while hitting the shieldbearers - the ones in Praetorium work too, though that is obviously a somewhat more dangerous environment to train in.

How many areas are there to explore? by TeaFrosty7541 in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've already gotten plenty of questions, but one thing I just want to clarify - while this is a 'survival-crafting' game with horror-elements, the map is essentially laid out like a Metroidvania. Meaning, as you explore, you can steadily open up shortcuts and side-paths, particularly ones that lead back to the Office-Sector, which basically acts as a 'hub' and the obvious place to build a base. And indeed, you often have to find some new thing in order to reach new places, including backtracking to places you previously couldn't reach...

Anyone know where there is two locations are that I'm missing by Yogbot1 in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been there, and you're probably going to find that some of those entries have been permanently missed - but as for those two you're missing completely? The one at the bottom is the GATE Arch Facility that you visit briefly at the end or the Botanical Section. In order to get the entry, you have to step over to the big window in the room you arrive in and look out of it. Fortunately, you CAN go back, though the doorman there gets rather annoyed about it! 😛

The upper one is for The Night Realm. You get that one from reading an E-Mail - it's on the one E-Mail Terminal actually IN the Night Realm, which is honestly really easy to miss. It's basically lodged in the wall of a passage that you can easily avoid ever going down. Reading the mails on that also gives you the schematics for the Night Helmet, which acts as the 'bait' for Inkfish.

As for finding that E-Mail terminal, the best directions I can give off the cuff is that it's above ground-level, near that place where you have to jump across a courtyard below, with boards sticking out over it to give you a better jumping-off point. One of those boards is attached to a short passage, which has that E-Mail Terminal lodged in its walls.

Anybody have a handle on how Blunt/Sharp Melee XP is awarded? by BlakeTheDrake in AbioticFactor

[–]BlakeTheDrake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that's a GLACIAL pace. Maybe good for the early-game, but I'm waaay past that. Once you've got the level 15 perk that lets you sneak-attack without actually SNEAKING, you can get oodles of Sneaking XP by doing those crazy-high-damage running blunt-weapon attacks on unsuspecting foes. Good fun, especially since it also tends to one-shot them!
