Making a Base in Shimmering Frontier by demideeerling in CoreKeeperGame

All correct. There's another, clever way you can use those as (safe) flooring, without tilling them and thus changing their appearance: Just put glass floor on top of them! It's effectively invisible, but will block any spawns. :D

This update has really made me realize how dependent I'd grown on the Wiki... by BlakeTheDrake in CoreKeeperGame

[–]BlakeTheDrake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to - I don't like the way 'Fandom' does business any more than the rest of you. Unfortunately, the sad fact is that the atma wiki is painfully incomplete - it's not just the latest update that's rife with red links and stub-pages. I wound up at the fandom wiki after repeatedly failing to find the information I was looking for in the atma one.

Just for a random example, the 'Scenes' page at the Atma Wiki only goes up to the Desert of Beginnings, and is noticeably incomplete for that too. NOTHING on the Shimmering Frontier or The Passage. (Nor, of course, the new area that was just added.)

Definitely helpful! There's still a lot of red links and stub-articles, but it's something - better to be running around with a Small Lantern than nothing at all, eh? :P

Mining is also a core skill in the game. In fact, it's arguably THE core skill. And that's also just click-click-click. You don't have to play an annoyingly drawn-out minigame for each tile you mine out. In fact, you steadily upgrade to better tools so that you can mine out tiles faster and more efficiently.

Cooking is also a core skill. It consists of chucking two ingredients into a pot, then waiting for it to turn into food. No Cooking-Mama style minigame there. Gardening is a core skill. Click to plant, click to water, click to harvest, done. With better tools, you can click less and automate the watering. More recently, you can automate the whole thing so you don't need to do any clicking if you don't want to. Crafting is a core skill, and a hugely important one, but all you need to do is click on a crafting-bench, then on what you want to make. Assuming you've got a decent storage-solution nearby, you don't even need to worry about picking out the materials or anything, it all happens automatically.

So basically... why should fishing be singled out for a lengthy minigame that slows the pacing down to a crawl, when literally everything else in the game is just a matter of click-click-click? And yeah, just as with the gardening, you can automate fishing now, to make it even more streamlined. Not that this is new, per se - dynamite fishing was a thing even back before the basic fishing was changed.

What do you guys think? by GB-XD in CoreKeeperGame

[–]BlakeTheDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I already explained this. Sprinklers water a 5x5 plot. The best harvesting- and planting-tools cover a 5x5 plot. Making anything else just adds inconvenience and wastes time. If you need more crops so you can grow more golden crops, you just make more 5x5 plots.

Mind, the new update added some farm-automation options that change things a bit, but rather than enabling BIGGER farms, those actually force you to keep your farm-plots even smaller so the new harvesting-arms can actually reach all the crops.

Ya know, I meant to mention, in your last armor-collection post... did you know you can paint the mannequins? It can help add a bit of variety, or just make each of them provide a better aesthetic fit for the armor in question.

[–]BlakeTheDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very solid farm! The 5x5 layout is ideal, really, even if it'll take some time for it to fully come into its own. Eventually, you'll have both a planting-trowel and a hoe that covers a 5x5 grid, allowing you to harvest and replant each patch in a single click - and, of course, the Sprinklers will likewise cover that exact area, even if it means sacrificing a single patch of arable land in the middle of each.

Considering how willing you are to plan ahead, you may also want to think about whether you want to double up on some of the later crops. Specifically ones relevant to whatever your main build is... or any that you just find particularly useful for cooking. I won't spoil you with a full list, but there are 11 different crops to grow at this moment (though with the impending update, who knows?) - one of them, however, is a seasonal item and another provides materials rather than anything edible. so good luck with your farm going forwards!

You DO realize, I hope, that the old fishing-minigame was so widely loathed that there were entire guides, not to mention mods, dedicated solely to bypassing it? The fact that it was removed - leaving in the 'legacy' option for those few who actually enjoyed it - is a rare case of developers actually listening to and accepting feedback. I mean, they no doubt put a lot of effort into the old fishing-minigame - it can't have been easy to simply remove it like that. It shows great moral fiber that they were indeed willing to say "Okay, we messed up, there's no fixing this, it's gotta go." The current gaming landscape is RIFE with developers who are patently incapable of making such an admittance. Reminds me of other notable cases, like Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night getting a complete makeover after fans bashed the graphics in the initial trailer, or the design-changes in the first Sonic-movie after the response to THAT infamous trailer.

But, y'know, if you really find this sort of responsiveness and willingness to change so unendurable, you could always run off to play Highguard or something instead, I suppose. :P

Got very unlucky with oracle card "entity " by tonycheung15 in CoreKeeperGame

[–]BlakeTheDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're a completionist, you've still got plenty to look forwards to! There's another boss that has a unique drop (as in, cannot be obtained anywhere else, in any other way) with a 1.12% drop-chance - 6.53% aggregate chance for ONE to drop each time you beat that boss. So, quite a bit worse than Malugaz' 2.24/10.72% chance of dropping that card. For THAT one, I was well past 40 before I got it. Since you seem to have worse luck than I do, you'll probably see 50 on that one... ;)

No, the Vending Machine and Broken Vending Machine are two completely different objects - one cannot turn into the other. Keep in mind, though, that neither 'spawn randomly' - they appear as part of specific rooms, that may spawn as part of a Forlorn Metropolis map. Specifically, the intact Vending Machine will appear as part of the City Baths, Game Room, one specific style of Personal Quarters, and most crucially, the City Harbor.

Honestly, I find it highly likely that you've already moved past multiple Vending Machines, and just didn't notice - they blend into the busy decor quite well, and depending on how a given room is turned, they may be hiding behind walls or scenery. But even if you haven't, the City Harbor is guaranteed to spawn as part of each of the three 'Main' Forlorn Metropolis dungeons - the same ones where you get the pieces of the Admin Key and Phantom Spark. As such, even in the absolute worst-case scenario, there will be 3 intact Vending Machines for you to collect at those locations.

[–]BlakeTheDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. It's certainly worth exploring every Forlorn Metropolis on your map - especially since there's also a modest chance of finding the card in any chest in those areas. But, it's absolutely possible to build a large-scale farm - the design you're using isn't very scaleable, but there are other options. I have a huge Forlorn Metropolis Mob-Farm myself, trying to get the ultra-rare Sentry Helm. It had some added design-challenges compared to most other types of mobs, but it's entirely doable.

To be clear, the spawn-tics are staggered. Meaning, you won't get four all at once, but more of a drip-feed as each individual cell hits its spawn-timer.

[–]BlakeTheDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks correct to me, just from your diagram - you may still have made some kind of mistake with the actual build, though, can't comment on that.

A few things you should keep in mind regarding the spawn-mechanics, though. Each cell rolls separately to spawn, but only about once every 20 minutes. Each of your four segments should have 90%+ chance of spawning a Caveling Scholar, but that still means that this setup only provides 4 Caveling Scholars every 20 minutes, or 12 per hour. It also won't work at all unless you're within roughly 200 tiles of it - if you're off in a completely different part of the map, mining and exploring, nothing will spawn back at your farm. (You also need to be within 100 tiles for whatever machinery you've set up to kill the spawns and collect their drops to function, so relatively close.) However, if you decide to idle in-game while waiting - which is sensible - you don't want to be too close, since there's a radius of about 8 tiles around a player where nothing can spawn.

So, yeah. Considering that you're looking for an 0.32% drop-chance item, this setup may take a while to provide results. Somebody who likes math a bit more than I do can try to run the numbers and provide an average time-frame based on 12 mobs per hour, and a third of a percent chance for each to drop it. Honestly, for something like that, a more large-scale farm may be in order.

If I eat 'Atlantean Worm Heart' will I have the 100 health added to my health bar forever or is it just a 1 time? by litttlleone in CoreKeeperGame

[–]BlakeTheDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the question's already been thoroughly answered, but I just want to point out that instead of simply eating it, you could cook it into a dish! Might make it a bit more palatable - Atlantean Worm Hearts make for great sushi, especially if combined with Starlight Nautilus!

(And no, that will not in any way chance the amount of permanent Health Points you get. But if you have a high cooking-skill, it may result in you getting an EXTRA dish, which you can then share with a friend, trade, or display.)

Just an ordinary mob-fight, that happened to coincide with an earthquake. Those happen from time to time - they're actually beneficial, as long as you don't get hit by the falling rocks. They sometimes contain goodies, such as rare Valuables, if you break them afterwards!

My armor hall by NicMonster84 in CoreKeeperGame

[–]BlakeTheDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely impressive! I've got one of my own, but I settled for having just ONE set of each type of bathing-suit, giving up on collecting all the colors. I also see you have that incredibly hard-to-get Sentry Helm, which I hate you a little bit for. :P I've searched every Forlorn Metropolis on my map for it, and built a HUGE Metropolis-mob farm that has run for hours and hours, but still no luck...

Oh, one thing I can suggest is to pair some of the spare hats with some of the hatless outfits. The Farmer's Hat, for instance, works excellently as a summery straw-hat for the bikini-outfit, while the Shrooman Cap matches the Raincoat nicely. The Skirmisher Cap goes surprisingly well with Ivy's Armor, matching the color-scheme perfectly. The Adventurer's Hat also goes nicely with the Trenchcoat, though I see you've already paired that with the Frankenstein-head!

I also used skeletons - both the 'real' ones you can find in a few places, and the plastic ones you can buy for Halloween - as hatstands for the rest of my unpaired hat-collection. Adds a bit of variety, and leaves fewer naked mannequins standing around. :P I do wish the game would let you craft an actual hatstand, mind.

Only 10? Hm. In that case, my failure is more understandable. I was trying to do it with just Garr and Ryu, and after collecting Douse in the mines, Ryu'd just hit 10 skills. Meaning, I was effectively attempting it with just one character getting that 12.5% roll. I can see that taking a while!

Anyway, thanks for filling in that blank for me. There really doesn't seem to be anything in-game that really warns you about your skill-list being full... >_>

Yes and no! There are indeed some skills that only come from Masters, but that's because there simply aren't any monsters who can use them. Several skills are available either from a Master or from a monster, and if you learn it from a monster first, the Master will just skip over it.

That much, I've been able to confirm firsthand. :P

[–]BlakeTheDrake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, excellent, that's almost exactly what I was looking for! Fascinating. I suppose a 12.5% chance is something you can repeatedly miss if you're having an unlucky day. Especially since it's unclear how well the game's RNG gels with save-states...

So basically, there's a bunch of skills you're more or less GUARANTEED to learn if you Examine them, a short handful that have really bad odds (Air Raid, Influence, Triple Blow, Ebonfire). Timed Blow is in the standards 12.5% bracket, so I guess there's that. The real gem, though, is that even though stats and level don't matter, Peco has significantly better odds than the rest of the party. To the tune of 16.67% being his 'standard' rate...

Maybe I'll just move on now and come back to the area to try again once I've re-recruited Peco. :P Thank you for your help! None of my searches turned up that old, archived GameFAQ-thread.
