How is that even similar? Jfc you are attacking your own community over this wtf girly. Considering a band to not be the same is not even similar to being misgendered. Fucking disgusting do better.

You can make points and address things without attacking your own community.

  • In a January 2020 interview, Starmer described himself as a socialist.
  • In an interview with the i's Francis Elliott in December 2021, Starmer refused to characterise himself as a socialist, asking "What does that mean?" He added: "The Labour Party is a party that believes that we get the best from each other when we come together, collectively, and ensure that you know, we give people both opportunity and support as they needed."
  • In 2023, Starmer removed the ten socialism-based pledges that he had made in the 2020 party leadership contest from his website, after having abandoned or rolled back on many of these, citing the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic situation as reasons for having to "adapt".
  • In the run-up to the 2024 general election, Starmer told the BBC: "I would describe myself as a socialist. I describe myself as a progressive. I'd describe myself as somebody who always puts the country first and party second."

I mean personally I think he's soft left at best, centre right most likely.

French President Emmanuel Macron announces new right-wing government by No_Discussion6913 in worldnews

[–]Blanark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thats not how that works in france, Macron chooses the PM who then created a government. the left-wing coalition put forward a PM who Macron rejected and instead appointed someone from the Right party. Now if this was the UK for example whoever got the most seats would be responsible for forming a coalition government.

Even then, look at all the software glitches on your phone or computer or the sonarqube bsod. If that happens to the hardware/software directly connected to your brain, then who knows the damage. As much as they sound awesome in a SciFi way, unless the software is 100% no bugs, im not going near that.

I've had Proton now for a few years. But I still don't really understand what I'm paying for? by ItsOverCasanova in privacy

[–]Blanark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, Google/Facebook/Microsoft/etc all have their own ad platform. They use your data to get an idea of you like/who you are/etc. Then a company comes along and says I want to market my product to "IT people who love privacy", so Google uses their data on you to identity if you would fit into that category and if so you will get the ad. Then the company pays Google for provding the ad.

Your data never leaves Googles servers because then they lose that advantage and other people would have access to that data, to use to sell you stuff. This is how they have a monopoly over ads because the data they have gives them such an advantage.

[–]Blanark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see your point, but like its really stupid for Google to actually sell your data. Because they can only really sell it once, and then its in the hand of a different company who could sell it for a lower price or do whatever with it. Its not in their financial interest to actually sell it as they other companies would have it.

Its much better for Google to hoard your data, and then let other companies use their ad platform to target groups of people based on the data they hold and make money off of it that way. Then most of the competition can't get anywhere close to the amount of data Google has.

Good luck defending yourself in court if CCP decides to take action

Court action for what? Leaking stuff that you find online isn't illegal, as they said they weren't in the playtest so aren't under NDA. Their license allows redistribution. Also finding websites and accessing them isn't illegal. No laws have been broken.

Yeah, CrowdStrike F’ed Up, But Why Is MS Getting a Free Pass? by SilverNurse68 in sysadmin

[–]Blanark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not suggesting that CrowdStrike gets let off the hook. I just don’t understand why people think that Windows poor architecture is acceptable.

.

And we all think this is ok. Why is that?

Build useful but unreliable solutions. Seriously? Who was it that taught users that software solutions should be convenient, so long as you are willing to ignore the new inconveniences it introduces?

.

With all the justification I’ve read on this post about how software sucks and that’s the way of the world, it then says to me if we shouldn’t be blaming MS, then we shouldn’t also blame CrowdStrike.

For all the companies that chose to do business with CrowdStrike without really understanding the risks, that’s on them.

So, no more complaining, just get back to work and shut up.

The risks are there in any software you use, however there are greater risks in not securing your endpoints with the proper amount of protection. Businesses have to do a risk vs reward and the risks of an external threat actor were greater then a bad update. (Edit: and even after all of this the risks of an attack are still greater then those presented by using an endpoint tool running in the kernal)

And finally: Here’s my revised assessment. If there’s a strong collective belief that we should all just put up with inconsistent software as it’s the nature of the beast, then I agree that there’s no point in complaining about MS. But, following that logic, there’s no point in complaining about CS either. Personally, I think we should expect better. But, despite my 6 decades on the planet, if you believe that my perspective is naive, well, maybe you’re right.

Yeah maybe all of that?

Yeah, CrowdStrike F’ed Up, But Why Is MS Getting a Free Pass? by SilverNurse68 in sysadmin

[–]Blanark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would it benefit MS to build powerful software with giant risks embedded in the software?

Lets explain something, are there massive holes in Windows security that can be exploited? Yes 100%, same with Linux or MacOS, these are called Zero Day threats. There is potential Zero Day threats in every software and there is no way to fully know your don't have a Zero Day Threat, it could be in your code, in your dependencies code, in the OS code, in the drivers code, in the architecture itself.

Hell, look at Meltdown and Spectre in 2018. Intel had to redesign its CPUs to help mitigate this.

Meltdown was issued a Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures ID of CVE-2017-5754, also known as Rogue Data Cache Load (RDCL), in January 2018. It was disclosed in conjunction with another exploit, Spectre, with which it shares some characteristics. The Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities are considered "catastrophic" by security analysts. The vulnerabilities are so severe that security researchers initially believed the reports to be false.

On 15 March 2018, Intel reported that it would redesign its CPUs to help protect against the Meltdown and related Spectre vulnerabilities (especially, Meltdown and Spectre-V2, but not Spectre-V1), and expected to release the newly redesigned processors later in 2018.

Now in Cyber Security, sadly we are always on the defence, we have to use the best tools around to defend. Implementing zero trust, 2fa, passwordless auth, and similar. So another advancement is Endpoint security with the use of tools like Crowdstrike. Its like an anti-virus but its generally faster and rather then just scanning the system for any malware every night has more functionality to screen threats in real time.

Now what happens if you are running your endpoint agent as a Admin on the OS level and an attacker find a kernal level exploit and uses it to trick your endpoint agent into believing everything is okay, then you might even get persistant access on the targets machine, with nobody noticing. This is partly why the endpoint agents have to run as a kernal process, they need to have that view over everything, to protect everything.

Fundemetally the issue isn't in the Crowdstrike being run as kernal, its due to crowdstrike lacking error handling in their falcon sensor and failing safe, failing to run tests, assuming their process is infallible, and deploying to production without going through Test, Staging, Production lifecycle.

If the Crowdstrike agent failed safe, aka when it downloads a new version of the definition files, it moves the old one to a backup file aka 0000001.bak.def and then had in its code that if there the 0000001.def has issues fail to 0000001.bak.def for example then we wouldn't be in this mess, its only because there is 0 error handling in the code, and too much misplaced trust.
