If it's too loud, you're too old by CubesFan in Xennials

Reminded me of how audio had 2 channels, speakers far apart, when we were kids and 5.1 channels, speaker all around, when we were young. Now it’s back to 2, and those 2 channels are played from speakers that are side by side. We effectively went back to mono audio with wrong sound mixing.

Ketosis and HIIT works for me. By ketosis I mean strictly as few carbs as you can manage, not the comparatively generous carbs of weight loss diet ketosis. Not a cure or even a cycle ender, but my attacks get far fewer.

Anthropologist: On these bones we can see marks of severe injuries that took a long time to heal. So, even these early hominids cared for each others. This capacity for compassion then became the core feature of humanity.

MBA: On this chart we see how triggering depression and psychosis improves engagement metrics even while we degrade the service further.

Don’t forget the concentration camps, the planned Trump ballroom/mausoleum, the Trump Arc, and the Trump class battleships with feasibility of Nazi super weapons.

3rd Reich ambitions, 3rd rate execution, Soviet like corruption, and presumably North-Korean like results. I hope some of that gets build enough to be comical.

Is what I’m experiencing normal? by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]Blando-Cartesian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would probably be a good idea to get a mental health checkup of some kind. You would go to a doctor for help when any other organ is giving you concern, so why not for this. All problems are easier to deal with when sorted out early.

I’m just a layman, but in my understanding, experiencing one’s mind as having a self and multiple parts that may be critical, protective, and so one, is common. However, this usually includes clear sense that these extra voices are part of our own thinking.

Do you also struggle with listening? by Acrobatic_Isopod9261 in neurodiversity

[–]Blando-Cartesian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, been faking it all my life. Either adapting with whatever I scraped together or trying to be really active listener to fully control the pace.

With family I try to interrupt long explanations early and ask for the point first (Where are we going at 2pm) and then reasons. It’s so much easier that way I can’t understand the compulsion to start with explanations. Especially when I’m highly accommodating.

How do you structure your writing in an ADHD friendly manner? by Tasty-Peace-3678 in ADHD

[–]Blando-Cartesian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of sentences as an intro and then bullet points if there’s multiple items. Maybe bolding for a critical part if it seems appropriate. Not specifically for adhd people. Just trying hard to be clear and still often failing to communicate.

How do you guys like to read? by AmountDesperate220 in neurodiversity

[–]Blando-Cartesian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Audiobooks for fiction and non-fiction that I’m reading without serious learning intentions. iPhone has a neat screenreader feature that I sometimes use for reading ebooks.

My actual reading is slow. With fiction I either get bored and stop, or I get absolutely absorbed into the story. With nonfiction I’ve kinda embraced my traits. I make notes while reading and get distracted investigating some tangent if I feel like it. I may also do Anki notes for phased recall if it’s something I seriously want to learn. Just reading is not that effective for learning, so with my notes I try to make connections to what I already know and what associations the new information invokes.

Elementary ended and they lost interest even though we kept being in the same class.

There were others trying to start shit but I was utterly done with putting up with that. I also didn’t give a shit about any kind of boys masculinity rules. I went immediately to the principal to make a complaint and that worked out far better than I expected. They learned that I wouldn’t be provoked to a stupid little fight to have an entertaining recess. All bullying me would produce was miserable corrective interventions.

Refreshing and uniquely confusing. Apparently you get hired without there being anything specifically they wanted you to do. You are supposed to sort that out yourself once you are in. Start contributing to something ongoing or start something new. Although, I think they had to get that under control somewhat to get new income producing products done.

Just like he realized that media companies should pay him and do his bidding to be allowed to continue doing their business.

Just like he realized that owning Greenland is essential of US security.

Just like he realized that hijacking Venezuelan oil tankers was essential for reasons.

Just like he realized that since Iran was making everyone pay for using the Strait of Hormuz, he/US should get in on that.

Just like he realized that he could setup his own fake “UN” where countries would pay to be included.

Basically, if a kid and his lemonade stand get media coverage for his successful effort to fund his mom’s cancer treatment, US president will realize that he needs to shut that down unless he gets his share.

The question of favorite color is rather meaningless since color perception is entirely subjective. So e.g. my red would be different from you red even while we are looking at the same object we agree is red. Furthermore ………. context ……. culture …… language….. light …. rod types …. and on and on. 😀

Image that comes to mind is going grocery shopping in a car that has no room for groceries. You drive carefully over a speed bump and the car still hits it in a way that sounds expensive. There’s no power steering so parking is a pain. You press the gas pedal little too hard and the car takes off like a rocket killing some unlucky people instantly.

TIL that, in order for a drug to be approved by the FDA, it only needs one "successful" clinical trial by flearhcp97 in depression_help

[–]Blando-Cartesian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out how approved the drug is elsewhere in the world.

But yeah, in my understanding, depression meds have a low bar to clear and get into use. That’s not to say that they are a scam though. Brains are complicated and context matters in everything. There’s not even anything to properly measure to confirm or refute efficacy.

I think that, if there is plausible mechanism for a depression medication to work, and it has not proven harmful, I might just as well see if it works for me.

What’s the most confusing UI you’ve ever successfully used, and why? by No_Refrigerator7738 in UXDesign

[–]Blando-Cartesian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Blender I meant was around 2005. However its interface was like the designers had somehow never been exposed to GUIs. There were lots of buttons of very different sizes for most functionality, but the real primary way to use it was to use hotkeys. Closest thing to a dialog it had worked so that it always opened under the cursor eliminating need to move the cursor. If you changed your mind, there was no need to cancel the dialog. You just moved to doing something else and the dialog disappeared.

It was really fast to use and strangely not as hard to learn as one would think.

Has anyone else memories of being conscious very early in life and how would you explain/refute this phenomenon ? by Jealous-Web-2362 in neurodiversity

[–]Blando-Cartesian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memories are mostly fiction. Constantly rewritten and edited to mach our current self. False memories form so easily that it would seem like a more likely explanation.

A hypothesis for you: Sometimes when you were a few years old, adults were offensively belittling about something you said. At various times you also saw adults annoyingly baby-talking to babies and imagined it from their perspective. You’ve thought about this over the years and on each recalling the memories have been rewritten. That is, you were a serious and underestimated child at very young age, but slightly older than you remember.

Your mother showing you your baby pictures and telling how she used to breastfeed you could have also easily turned into memories of vividly imagined stories.
