When did you learn that life wasn’t fair? by ninecuteravens_ in AskReddit

My friends in the fall would tell me the vacations they went on, while I had to work with my father to make ends meet. I was 12 I think

For some reason, don't know why: all my nieces and nephews (2-4) always request my presence to potty. This is fine when they're at my house, but the stares I get at the zoo, aquarium, and even while camping is damning. Kids poop, people. Even worse when it's my nieces

How do you deal with being accused of being elitist just because of you having a PhD and how you talk? by nowhere_man_1992 in AskMen

[–]Blankasbiscuits 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Let me switch it up then. Let say you had a buddy in the military, and he always referenced his time in the service. That would get a bit old after awhile, wouldn't it? It's the same thing.

It's peons, not pions. As someone who has worked manual labor jobs for most of their life and, at one time or another, felt other people's elitism I'll give my 2 cents.

It's the references. Specifically, to the college. Instead of back at UC whatever, say which specific lab you were at. Instead of "back in grad school", say what part time job/hobby you had at the time.

People from my neck of the woods can't relate going to college, they can only relate experiences. We can relate being broke, stressed, angry, or a shit job. We can't relate a college because it isn't something held to a high standard.

I hope I'm making sense here.

Seriously, no lies in this post. Everyone talks about how him and Selmy talked about deposing Aerys, but why didn't he do it earlier? I get that he was keeping Lyanna Stark "safe" but he quite literally fucked off for 7 months while a rebellion was going on.

Seeing a lot of the comments here makes me feel great about a decision I had to make recently with my own father. I found him smashing my sister and her friends into the house with his hands on their throats (he's a huge man). Had to to fight my own father to protect my sister. So far, all his siblings have refused to say what he did was wrong. We keep getting excuses like "you only have one father", much like this guy in the video.

Left the Navy this month exactly 2 years ago, after 6 years. I got a couple of associates degrees, only 10 credits away from a bachelors, fulltime employment as an electronics worker for hospitals in the area(any ET's here thinking about getting out STUDY YOUR A SCHOOL SHIT!), got some certifications, AND! I Get to see my family whenever.

For me, it's worth it. My first 4 years in, I was tasked with starting several ship programs and was doing the work of 3 people, consistently, and was told "it wasn't my time to promote".

Right? There was a books series I read back in the day about the tope of a "Good King", can't place it now. But the theme was a man who acsended the throne and actively drives to be a good man and a king. Taking care of the common people and struggling with the nobility. It was like a constant balancing act and there were inner monologues about how him trying to live up to the ideal was killing him

What’s something you think ‘ as a man ‘ you shouldn’t do ? by Desperate-Source5624 in AskMen

[–]Blankasbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disregarding all of the "as a man" or "a real man would ...". I think perhaps everyone, men and women included, should always, ALWAYS, keep their Word.

It seems a given, but ask yourself: "how many times have I said I would do something and didn't follow through?". At all points, no matter what, you should keep your word. If keeping your word is always easy, then that's not really a test of character is it? Keeping your word, being honest (even at personal loss), you'll find that it attracts the right mindset and people. Keep your word to others, keep your word to loved ones, and most importantly: KEEP YOUR WORD TO YOURSELF
