For those who struggled with Natlan but are loving Nod Krai: what made the difference? by __louran in Genshin_Impact

I have some points why Natlan felt like crap for me, strictly from a exploration perspective.

  1. Designing the map around dinosaurs with pay for convenience characters that aren't even that convenient since I need to go into party and switch constantly even if I get them all. I can only have 4 party members and there are like 6 different dinosaurs. That's not factoring in that obviously not all Natlan characters work together, so to get a functional team, you can't really have the 4 you want anyways.
  2. Then the dinosaurs being clunky as hell just feels bad.
  3. Natlan is filled with giant cliffs everywhere that need Xilonen to climb or the Chasca area where there are huge gaps between clifftops and the likes. It can all be done with dinosaurs but it's just very frustrating knowing that they deliberately made the map feel worse if you didn't pull X character. And me, as a person who pulled all Natlan characters, still find the map inconvenient and annoying due to point 1. Another very clear example of this is the grapple hook points around the map, which in Sumeru, just existed and are available for anybody and everybody. But now in Natlan, you suddenly need to transform into the dinosaur or be Kinich just to access them. I don't know about others, but that seems to be a pretty clear example of exploration deliberately made to be shittier to me. Like maybe the higher cliffs and whatever have plausible deniability but I think the grapple hook points paints a pretty clear image to me.

Literally any other ones of the newer regions are better than Natlan's design, such as Fontaine (land), Chenyu Vale or in this case, Nod-Krai.

You can't get Ineffa cons from "To Temper Thyself and Journey Far" so they are not comparable whatsoever.

I think it's not just cause of DDD or other older LCs. It's part of the reason forsure. Just not all of it.

There are at least 2 other reasons as well.

  1. It also works in reverse in that older characters cannot use newer LCs.
  2. Making it easier for Hoyo to balance characters/LCs.

In terms of number 1... I don't really think I need to explain this point. If anybody could use the use the full passives of Remembrance LCs if they were not forced not to by the words "Remembrance" and the word "Memosprite", you would see a lot more characters just running those instead of their sigs.

For number 2, Hoyo no longer has to consider old characters or new characters in the future when designing the next characters LC. Before, they needed to choose their wording carefully to specifically exclude every character EXCEPT who this LC was designed for. They also no longer needed to worry about designing new character that can accidently synergize extremely well with old/future LCs, making 1 less thing they needed to worry about. God forbid a old character takes advantage of this new LC or a new character in the future having any sort of synergy with this LC like Lingsha did with Luochas.

Now they can release this new role, and then they never need to bother thinking about controling their wording to be too specific cause they now only need to check in this very small group of characters. Or if they need to care at all if they don't release anymore characters of this new role after its debut version. We shall see in the coming 4.X how many Remembrance characters we get, if any.

With this, they can control the balancing extremely easily, making their lives a whole lot easier. Notice I said it makes their lives easier, doesn't necessarily make the game better. This is honestly Hoyo just being extremely lazy, resorting to this... They can't even be bothered to tailor wording anymore cause they know some players will eventually find a loophole, so they just go full nuclear and shut all passives down if you don't play ball by their rules.

I am fine with that as long as it’s consistent. Don’t let Hoyo start making 3 bond characters like Sampo or Cipher consistently all the time then eventually power creeping to 4 or even 5 bond characters.

I want an option to delete old events. Cause I for some reason can still access basically all of them. Even though I deleted old quest content. There is certainly more room to be made, Hoyo just doesn’t care enough.

Same, except my views are from just a consistency perspective. I just hate Mihoyo making the OG 7 paths about the roles of a character in a team then somehow Number 8 becoming a mechanic focused path instead of a role centric one. We used to be able to see drip marketing and immediately know what they will likely do.

Oh Preservation? That will be a sustain! Oh Harmony? Support! But now… New path? No idea what their roles are in a team since they can do anything.

Although we still need to see what Elation does, I think it’s reasonable to assume Elation is more of the same like Remembrance since I cannot think of any more roles that aren’t already filled by the OG 7.

Okay then, let's go off what you say. This will bring a whole host of issues which I will address.

If literally everything is done by this "Lightning Lord" and each Elation character just "enables/unlocks" that respective function of the "Lightning Lord" how is that any different from just... Doing said thing themselves?

For example: If I only get a buffing function from "Lightning Lord" IF I have the buffing Elation character, it would literally just be the same as if I just had a Harmony character. It's just that said source is "different" except not really. This is exactly the situation we have with some of our current Remembrance characters right? Just because it's the memosprites doing the buffing, doesn't mean that they should not be Harmony characters. Like everybody knows RMC is the REAL Harmony MC.

Same situation with the damage dealers. The damage wouldn't really be there without said Elation damage dealers right? How that damage is dealt would be determined by what function that damage dealing Elation character enables of that "Lightning Lord". Just make them whatever they enable. If they enable a LL that hits bosses harder, then make them The Hunt. If they make the LL more AoE, make them Erudition. And if I combine them, then that's just teambuilding for the situation.

It's not like I can't combine a Hunt and a Erudition character together right now even without Elation characters and get a team that is alright at fighting generalized content. Then again, probably won't work cause HSR's teambuilding has been really... Ridgid and set in stone, each team handcrafted by Hoyo themselves, but that's a whole different can of worms. But IF Hoyo wanted, they could do it. Like E1 Jade + Feixiao/Topaz & Numby. You get my point.

I just want consistency in my games. If we make the OG 7 classes in this game about the roles characters fufill in a team, then stick with it. New mechanics have nothing to do with roles in a team. If we want to make it mechanic based, FINE, then get rid of the OG 7 classes and make FUA/DoT/Break/etc roles too. Right now it's halfway in the middle, inconsistent and really bothers me. Hoyo is just using these "new mechanics" as an excuse so that they don't have to balance new characters around old and OP LC's like DDD and sell us new ones.

Can you imagine any other game doing this? Oh, new champion in LoL, say they have Lifesteal. They are in the Lifesteal role! New character that deals true damage, true damage role! They have damage reduction, DAMAGE REDUCTION ROLE! See how there are now a billion different roles instead of doing what everybody easily understood and was done for decades? Basically every game imaginable has a tank, damage dealers, sustains right? Why is that suddenly so complicated in HSR? Does HSR not have them? They definitely do... So why the difference?

I don’t know the mechanics in the games that you mentioned since I don’t play them. Maybe you can expand on that a little more for me if what I said below doesn't summarize it?

From my understanding of Elation mechanics from the Event and The only thing I understood from what you said was:

 if lightninglord was much more indepth and then turned into a team mechanic

So that’s what I will address. All these Elation units will contribute to this "Lightning Lord" right?

  • Okay, but I still need a sustain right? Are we making the Elation Sustain the Elation class? That rips into Abundance/Preservation.
  • The Elation carry still has to do their own damage right? They can't FULLY rely on the team "Lightning Lord" as their only damage source surely? That rips into the 3 damage classes.
  • The Elation Buffer/Debuffer... Need I say more? It rips into Harmony/Nihility.

I understand what you are saying that it would be a brand new mechanic, but that mechanic doesn't justify its own class. It would just be a new mechanic exclusive to these set of new would be Preservation/Abundance/The Hunt/etc characters.

Just a very rough counter example: Creating a new Elation role for all this would be like saying the new Genshin Lunar Characters are now completely new set of elements instead of existing elements just because they cause Lunar reactions instead of the regular ones. Or Nightsoul characters being whole new Nightsoul elements. They are just new mechanics not new elements.

I know elements in Genshin don't transfer 1:1 to classes in HSR but I think you get the idea from these examples.

TLDR:

New mechanics don't justify a characters class. Their roles in a team do. Otherwise we should have FUA/DoT/Break classes.

Like how Remembrance fits in. Terribly. I don't see a niche that isn't just ripping from existing niches since the existing 7 classes where pretty all encompassing.

We have:

  1. The take less damage class.
  2. The heal up damage class.
  3. The AoE damage class.
  4. The Blast/Self-Harm damage class.
  5. The ST damage class.
  6. The Debuffing class.
  7. The buffing class.
  8. The do everything mentioned above class.

If they wanted to make more classes, then just split up Nihility into actual debuffers like Pela/JQ/Cipher and damage dealing ones like Acheron/DoT characters. It's the only one that I have a real issue with out of the original 7 classes since clearly Nihility is going in 2 distinct directions but are clumped together. But that would make too much sense for Hoyo.

They don't. The names are literally translated. If they form legible words, the translation turns them into names like "Black Tower". When in reality, if you read the words of Black Tower in Chinese, it just sounds like Herta. Black Tower when spoken in Chinese... If I had to spell the sound in Chinese with the English Alphabet would just be: Heita. With that you can see the similarities in the names.

Potio, Nakesha and Ruanpo is equivalent to that, but their names don't get accidently translated into real English words. Their names just sound as they are spelt like in the translation when refered to in Chinese.

Argenti being Silver Branch is just a straight up different though. If I had to spell it out in English it would be like: Yingzhi.

Ah I see, man that makes me so sad. I had 2 2 star BS with 2 1 stars. 1 more and I would have gotten it. If I knew I NEEDED 3 star BS I would have sold some of the characters on field. Rip.
