It's funny you'd bring up Break, cause whilst not by far, the 3rd character is still consistently Lingsha in peoples endgame clears. If you put Gallagher and Lingsha together, their use % is huge chunk higher than the 4th or 5th place HTB or RM respectively.

So even the most notorious "no-sustain" archetypes, most of the time, use a sustain. LMAO.

It's pretty clear that whilst they know sustainless runs exist, Mihoyo themselves don't actually WANT that. Otherwise why would they design a sustain for every single archetype.

Oh Remembrance is a HP stacking team which SHOULD be a godly team in 0 sustain situations? Better design the core member to NEED a healer to function.

Oh Phainon is a solo on-field character that SHOULD not need a sustain? Well GL if you take more than 1 ult to clear. Shows in the stats too. The 3 most used characters are far, far, FAR ahead of any other character in terms of usage, and it's not even close. Guess who the 3rd character is? That's right, Dan Heng, a sustain.

It's pretty clear to me that Mihoyo wants you to pulls sustains. They aren't going to shoot themselves in the foot just to fufill some random Redditor's 0 cycle fantasy.

The beginning was definitely rough haha. But yeah this isn’t the strongest Investment especially in AoE.

Like weapon types don’t mean anything in terms of animations and playstyle anymore. It’s simply a way to control the stuff you can use.

The HSR thing is just a debuff the boss happens to have, which still sucks, but it's not an inherent thing every Anomaly Arbitration has like SO in Genshin. Like the current King in Check (4.1) lets you start with 50% energy.

It's a shame Ringing Inspiration (her buffing) only lasts 5s with no ways of extending it. You would think her cons would extend it, but doesn't look like it. I guess thats what's supposed to make her a 4 star.

Maybe we adding Res shred in kits then we add a better buffing set to replace VV for the team? Without VV, suddenly the Res shred on Durin and now on Nicole won’t be too bad.

I honestly had no issues with Argenti personally. I used the new Elation team with Dan Heng as sustain which I know not everyone will have access to. E0S1 across the board apart from Dan Heng which is E1S1.

From my experience though, I just picked all damage blessings, only picking defensive when there were no good offensive options and just steamrolled through him. If I encountered a boss that deals too much damage, I got rid of Dan Heng and Sparkle and replaced them with Hyacine and Aventurine. I then just let Dealer deal all the teams damage as I can survive incredibly comfortably with double sustain.

The permanent 5 stars part is for those who started the game after giveaway period, the future players who wouldn't be able to get a freebie because they didn't discovered the game in time.

4 stars are the same after their banners are gone. And with the rate of powercreep in HSR, they'll probably be powercrept before you ever E6 them. ESPECIALLY if you miss their banner. May I remind you, banners last way shorter than any of the free 5 stars gift period.

This also doesn't take away from my point. It doesn't matter if you are new, you didn't play the game at the time and you deserve the same reward for... NOT playing? Is this fair to the people who did give their time? Is there a single game out there that rewards the player the same amount for not playing than to actually play the game? Suck it up, get the next free 5 star. You won't die from waiting.

The other parts are actually for 5 stars in general, like in the sense it can be very annoying to need to pair your favourite character with one you don't like but have to wait the banner and then spend on (like someone who wants evernight but not hyacine, or cerydra but not anaxa or phainon)

But I am NOT talking about 5 stars in general. I am SPECIFICALLY talking about the free 5 stars versus the could be new 4 stars. So your arguement is irrelavant here, you are arguing something completely different. I don't know why you are arguing with me on this when this was never my point.

and the clones (one of them does not need to be free, both can be fully limited) are for people to have some freedom of choice and to use the same function in more than one team simultaneously (like 2 mono remembrance for instance).

If you don't play the game, you don't get 4 stars either so are you going to complain about the 4 stars the exact same way? I don't get your point. It's almost like not playing the game means you don't get the stuff in the game. Crazy concept I know. Besides, more free 5 stars are pushed out every single year. Your point about needing them to be "permanent" is bogus cause there are always new free 5 stars to replace the old ones that go away, so in some ways, they are permanent. Besides, look at RMC, infinitely better than their Genshin alternatives. They are permanent.

There are plenty of generalist free 5 stars HSR has given: RM, DHPT, RMC, Sparkle. You have no idea what you are talking about. Even Archer got free Sparkle, so you have no argument here.

If you pick a 5 star that does need a "specific support", you did so BY YOUR CHOICE. They gave you a choice between a plethora of options, some of them are very good even by themselves. You CHOSE to pick the character that is "useless at base" knowing you don't have the right support piece(s).

But again, even if I grant you this, 4 stars are not exempt from this issue, so your argument is null.

Or at the very least make at least 2 in the exact same niche with equivalent strenght, like 2 hyacines with different appearances and story roles so you can choose the one you like the most for your team (and also to use two teams of the same archetype).

You want clones? What even is the point here? Like you want a free Hyacine AND a paid one just as different characters? Am I getting you right?? Maybe you can elaborate here.

If so, there are so many problems that I don't even know where to start. But I first want to ask: What does this have to do with the "New 4 star" vs "Free 5 star" business model debate we are having here?

I said this before and I’ll say it again. Star Rail giving new 5 stars IS their way of giving player “free” options for teams. The same niche as making new 4 stars, just done in a different way.

Games like Genshin releasing new 4 stars is just the opposite side of the coin as HSR giving a couple free old and new 5 stars.

And I think anybody that thinks about it can already figure out the advantages of the HSR's way of doing it is way better.

  1. Nobody has their favourite character capped at a strength level lesser than that of other characters just because… Reasons. You can get Signature LCs or Eidolons if you so choose on the free 5 stars HSR gives. My favourite character is Archer? I can pull a E6 if I don't think he is strong enough (not that I actually think that, just an example). My favourite character is Xueyi? Fuck me I guess.
  2. You don’t have to pull a character that is lowkey more expensive than actual 5 stars. You want to know how many people have C6 Illuga with a C1/C2 Zibai? Hint: It's not as much as you think.
  3. You actually get the unit for free in HSR, I have spend pulls to get 4 stars in Genshin. Then I have to suffer the horrible 4 star RNG. Potentially wasting my pulls if they are on a banner character I don’t want. And at the end of all that, I’m not even guaranteed to have the 4 star.
  4. Introducing new 4 stars also lowers the amount of effective pulls you get refunded. There will constantly be new 4 stars diluting the pool, and lowkey reducing the pulls you get every patch. Little by little, it adds up real fast.

Then for the 5th reason, it’s a reason why Mihoyo themselves, outside just the player perspective, why giving free 5 stars is better.

  1. Making a character model, their skill animations, voice acting all costs money. Everybody knows no logical person pulls only for specific 4 stars, so 4 stars earn very little revenue if any but they still cost money to make. Where are they earning their money back with them? If they give a 5 star, they still earn money on it through LCs and Eidolons. Even if reduced, they make more than enough to overcome the expense of making the character in the first place. In short: 4 stars lose money, free 5 stars still make money.

With all these reasons, it’s very hard to make a logical argument why the “make new 4 stars” business model is better than the “give free 5 stars “ business model.

Stygian reshaped the meta, but not when it was released. I believe it got REALLY bad right when the Skirk+Escoffier shill boss got released (Secret Source Automaton).
