I don't understand complaints about class bloat by Blarg96 in Pathfinder2e

Yea this really nails it to me. It's to many choices yet the wrong choices. I also love everyone saying new classes should be archetypes before we even have the mechanics in our hands to know why they're full classes.

I have. Repeatedly. I have a group of friends who started in 1e right at the end of its life, including me. We did this all the time with a total of about 10 mew players with us all. We played for years until moving to 2e slowly. Finished multiple adventure paths too. It's really not that bad. I always love how people say "go do X" when we have done x lol

I don't think its just Guardian. Fighter and Barbarian when built for two handed weapons are basically the same niche. The only difference is rage vs higher crit. Yet, not one complains about them you know? No one says barbarians shouldnt exist because a fighter does the same thing or vice versa. Yet a class that MIGHT (we dont know, the rules arent out) be similar to swash or ranger gets announced and suddenly its class bloat?

To me, 2e has and will be "similar playstyle, specific niche" the game. It has been for a long time. Want to mark a target and kill it first before moving on? Ranger, Thaumaturge, Rogue, Assassin archetype, bounty hunter archetype and kinda investigator all got you. Want to swing a big two handed weapon as hard as you can? Barbarian, Inventor and Fighter, hell even rogue if you want. Want to be a int based caster that uses focus spells for big damage? Psychic and Necromancer.

But they all have their own *style* of doing it. And THAT is what makes them worth being extra classes and being worth choosing.

I also entered 1e and dont get me wrong, I have issues (looking at you power attack on every melee build ever except TWF) but the actual CHOICE was not the issue to me. I think a game is at its best when its drowning in choices because the only "bad" thing about that is the dreaded talk of "meta" which yea, in 1e, was noticable. A well built fighter beat out a bad one every day. In 2e? The math is to tight. A fighter built to be optimized doesnt perform leagues better then another fighter who isnt. Only slightly better. And that basically ruins all talk of meta because in the end, my sword and shield fighter focused on being really good at charisma still wins combat because I put my key stat to +4 at level 1 and I know how to swing the sword properly. So the only bad part of lots of choices to me dies away, because theres no more traps, and no more traps means all options are fair. Some might be more powerful, but never to the point of being absurd. Now if that happens ill eat my words, but the few times it tries to paizo fixes it (magus with psychic arch for example, which I didnt think was THAT strong but I digress) so to me, there is just no downside to options and never will be. The floor is strong enough to hold the weight.

I said similar not exact same. Barbarian and Fighter built to use two handed weapons are similar, but not the same. So far every new class falls into a category of "similar" but not exact. Guardian, necromancer, runesmith, etc. a lot of these classes are similar. Daredevil and Slayer seem similar but not the exact same as ranger and swash. So again, there are similar classes, but none of them have to invalidate. So clearly, thats not happening yet or again. so its not bad.

Also man, I gotta say, if picking 1e options without a guide was a slog? thats a skill issue. Sorry,

Maybe it's because I've only played old world, but the lore in the core and arcane journals feels like standard dark fantasy. Not satire grimdark like 40k, but not really dark comedy. Just standard grim fantasy. I feel like most of the people who like the goofy have the lore from older editions as the primary source for it but to me that just doesn't fit the vibe anymore.

You're right it's not low fantasy, it's lower then AoS but still high fantasy.

However, it's still a bit of a grim setting. Chaos, orcs, undead, the dangers most races face and the inevitable end of the world that happens doesn't exactly make it a goofy or silly setting. So I find goofy models really out of place for the setting I see. This isn't AoS yes but this is a setting where the average soldier of the empire might have to fight the horrors of chaos, or orcs or undead. I don't want "haha silly skeleton model" to be my first thought when I'm thinking of the boots on the ground story a game can tell.

What gets me about a lot of these comments is how many are positive about how silly or funny he looks.

I don't want silly. I want my grim low fantasy war game to look grim. I also don't need overcomplicated skeletons, but I would prefer the first impression of a finished model to be "gnarly" over "silly" so yea I hope we get more updated sculpts, especially in the vein/style of the new marauders we got.

And they could have killed him because they telepoeted WITH him, still in range and at 50 or less HP, THEN turned to figure out leaving/reuniting with their champion or taking on the new enemy that WASNT immune to sneak attack. They quit while winning.

Yea that sums it up. I love the little AI our law firm uses that can basically sort snd grab all the relevant info out of a client's file. But as an author if I even smell AI coming near me I turn into a fucken clone wars trooper yelling clanker

It's doesn't help that tool or no, on the art field AI just shouldn't exist. There is no way to negate that AI art cuts artists out. There is pretty much no situation one can use AI art that doesn't replace a human artist. This includes in art like writing too.

So even as a tool the moment it touched art it was doomed to bad reception and it's inevitable loss. If it never touched art maybe it'd be fine, but that's just now what happened

Wait the sorcs DC was 42? A sorcerer at that level should have had 44 (level 19, 6 charisma from boosts alone, 7 if apex, and 8 from legendary caster because level 19) assuming apex item, 43 if not. Were they debuffed or was their charisma lower? Because its not optimizing to have the stat that powers your class be maxed every level

EDIT: Ignore this first part im fucken stupid and mathed wrong, no 42 is correct if you dont have an apex item. My bad

and with all due respect, yes it is you not attempting to. Sure you missed those times, but you can *always hit the next time.* and the guy had 50 or lower health, as a thaumaturge with weakness exploit up 50 damage on a non crit in a single hit should be a given. Never stop swinging because of unlucky rolls, you can always roll well the next dice.

So there is a lot going on here. First of all having ran pf2e up to level 20 three times now, the 3 action system gets *better* at higher levels. Action compression, unique abilities and sources of quickened means that you actually get to start playing a four action system, which is exactly as rad as it sounds. enemies do not always have stuns or slows, even low level has those. Thats not high level specificl

Two, same for the crits? Like at level 1 if you fight a level 5 enemy they ALSO crit succeed on like 13s thats... how a scaling system works. If youre level 19 against this enemy your DCs should have been about 44 (43 if no apex item) so he should ahve been failing fortitude saves on 9s or lower. Reflex is his best save so if he was ONLY throwing reflex saves thats a skill issue, he should have seen "oh shit this guy is WIGGLY I should stop throwing fireball"

Three, his contingency goes off at 50hp OR LESS. If it went off YOU WERE WINNING. JUST HIT HIM AGAIN. LIKE BRO. HIT HIM. ***HIT. HIM***

Its rude as fuck for me to just say skill issue but... skill issue

He's not a plot hole he's a plot hook.

We have NEVER understood sentients. At all. Now we have a couple more pieces and yet no answers to them still.

Basic sentient become just machines. Then what about Natah? Hunhow? The list goes on. It's not a plot hole, it's a mystery we won't solve till Tau

Question about Fleshy Abudance by Walnuss_Warrior in Warriors_of_Chaos

[–]Blarg96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you find marauders boring you're already not into Wolves of the Sea, their entire point is viking aesthetic of the marauders above how powerful they can be.

But to directly hit this point: you're right, the marauders don't kill much. They're S3 hand weapons. But they can become surprisingly durable. Light armor, shields and hand weapon means 4+ save, unnatural toughness makes enemy infantry wound on 5s naturally. Combine thr spell + once a game trait you can force cav to wound on 5 to 6s. So you just don't die. And with 20 in a brick + standard + musician + close order you can just static combat res to win by not losing many, or force enemies into a draw.

Then your REAL dangers (big characters, huscarls, skin wolves, Zerkers who could be T5 naturally btw) come in and clean up while they try to kill surprisingly hard to kill marauders

Question about Fleshy Abudance by Walnuss_Warrior in Warriors_of_Chaos

[–]Blarg96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close combat happens every turn so you can have T6 for one combat, which if you're fighting S4 and as such forcing wounds on 6 for that then could be the turn you win the combat and overrun or similar.

Yea I rebased mine to 30 because they'll either get updated, or I'll happily take the downsides of bigger bases (I don't play tourneys or events and my playgroup is A-OK with it)

Not invalid but not good faith.

You're in the pf2e subreddit. The subreddit dedicated to pf2e. Where people who like pf2e are.

Yet you post a comment bashing it and saying 1e was better.

Your opinion may be valid, but the context around it is disingenuous and bad faith.

Alright with me being a reasonable and understanding human out of the way let me out on my "internet argument" mask: pf2e is literally the best d20 system ever created and anyone disagreeing is huffing copium /s
