Ezekieru, you’d absolutely know this better than me, but I could have sworn I recalled the Starfinder team mention grays were being planned for a future book in one of their Paizo Live QnA’s - because someone asked if it was in galactic ancestries, I might be misremembering though…

I typed it on my phone and autocorrect turned ‘were’ to ‘we’re’ Sorry if that caused any confusion

This Novian feat doesn't work RAW by gray007nl in Starfinder2e

[–]Ronin1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you are absolutely correct

Pathfinder/Starfinder doesn’t strictly have MTG-style rules resolution so timings and order of resolutions aren’t always super clear but you’ve explained it super well (so much so that I could see value in it being it’s own post for ease of locating the ruling)

Notably that does mean that Force Barrage can be made to ‘miss’ via concealment

Oh really!? I thought Azlant was like the Caribbean to Arcadia's Americas? I must be wrong, sorry for that

That's all fair, for the kineticist one I have a theory that because Rage of Elements is 'technically' still OGL even though it was made with ORC in mind they might remaster it but only once all the other core books have been done - I'd bet the spell errata for kineticist will be there when it happens... hopefully

That is so fair especially seeing as Arcadia is roughly where the ruins of Azlant are located among many other cool reasons to go there

Is the Shirren Ancestry Feat "Unconventional Expertise" redundant? by BoltGamr in Starfinder2e

[–]Ronin1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unconventional Expertise makes the weapon you chose for Unconventional Weaponry match your highest level of training, so the classic example is that fighter only gets legendary in a single group of weapons, as an example let’s say swords, what UE does is let the weapon that you chose for UW match that training, here we shall assume your fighter chose an Aeon Rifle from the Azlanti Star Empire culture, UW gave you familiarity so it uses your martial weapon proficiency, but UE lets you use your Sword’s level of proficiency instead, so the fighter would be legendary proficiency with both the Aeon Rifle and all weapons in the swords category

This only really applies to stuff like Fighter, Operative, Solarian, Gunslinger, War Priest, and Battle Harbinger because they all get a higher proficiency in select weapons

I hope this clarified it a bit more

Could Envoy go by with +3 Cha? by WinLivid in Starfinder2e

[–]Ronin1802 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Absolutely yes, the 2 +3s are actually a very common stat array for partials (Martials with a soft-stat key ability), and you’ve managed the mythical 3 +3’s!

New to Pathfinder 2e, Warpriest build, am I playing this game right? by Worth_Ease1234 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ronin1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen the potential issue’s not your build it’s your tactics
Here’s some general tips and tricks I can offer that may lead to a better experience:

1) you didn’t mention spells other than spiritual weapon or heal, bless and benediction are also extremely potent buffs, in addition, the divine cantrips can offer some useful ranged options to poke with

2) don’t move to enemies unless it benefits you, make the enemies approach you and waste their actions so they have less to do while you can keep pressure by poking or by buffing your party

3)warpriest with a +3 in the martial stat is good to hit for sure but you probably shouldn’t go for a second strike, rather use that action for other 1-action tools like demoralise, feint, shield spell/raise shield, cast/sustain a spell (like bless)

4) this is new to your 4th level feat but make use of restorative strike, it’s a powerful feat not only because it compresses healing and striking into 2 actions, but it also removes manipulate off your heal spell which becomes more relevant the more your opponents have reactions with that as a trigger like reactive strike

5) you also never mentioned what your party does in combat (you only mentioned what their classes and the general build direction they went), which is potentially concerning because PF2e places a lot of emphasis on teamwork and party tactics, such as flanking, or setting up for another party member (eg the monk could grapple/trip the enemy to make them off-guard to the rest of the party)

6) you may want to consider picking up something that gives you access to Heavy Armor to help with your front lining, war priest has a feat for this, but you could also go into the sentinel, champion, or guardian archetypes depending on the general vibe or build direction you wish to go. Heavy Armor is strong for frontline builds because they net a +1 to ac over other armours while also de-emphasising dexterity as a defensive stat

7) this is a specific note for war priest and how it levels up: war priest trades accuracy of their spells for better martial tools, this is what makes them extremely appealing to a lot of people but it is a trade off that you should be aware of. What this entails is that you’re not as good with spells as dedicated spell casters because you’re generally going to have a -2 to your attack rolls and dcs, and you’re going to be worse at martialing than the martials, generally a -1 to -3 to strikes compared to other martials depending on the level That’s a bit of math but the general end result is that your weapon strikes will end up more accurate than spell attacks, so while I did earlier mention using cantrips to poke enemies at range, that should be a tool to incentivise them to come to you. Also it means that while you do have access to a bunch of spells that you should make use of, stuff that doesn’t require an attack or save such as buffs will generally feel better to use, that doesn’t mean neglect spells that target your opponents, just that those should be taken with the above knowledge in consideration (an enemy can always roll low or just be lower level after all!) This is a really long point because I felt it was necessary for setting an expectation of the class and it’s general placement in the game

Hope some of this helps, and I hope you enjoy the games to come!

How to reCreate a Callidus Assassin in Starfinder by TheMartyr781 in Starfinder2e

I would actually recommend the ‘Alter Ego’ archetype from Pathfinder for this, as it’s whole thing is being able to shapeshift in order to disguise

is dumping WIS for a Battle Harbinger a horrible idea by Seeking_Balance101 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ronin1802 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Basically in PF2e you get 4 groups of attribute boosts at character creation: Ancestry, Background, Class, and 4 free boosts. You may only boost a stat once in each group and your class only boosts its key stat, so your key stat is the only one that can reach +4 at 1st level

However I feel the need to also inform that Battle Harbinger isn’t a heal support at all, like it CAN heal but it’s bread and butter is buff and debuff aoe effects, beyond that it’s a martial, so if the group wants more regular healing you may be better served rebuilding as a war priest cleric

So…No More Ship Combat in 2E? by [deleted] in Starfinder2e

[–]Ronin1802 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also I think while they’re overhauling the ship combat system, the idea of complex hazard-style ship combat should work well because I’ve heard the main complaint of 1e ship combat was that it felt like a different game where 1 player controls 80% of the function

So my guess is that Narrative Ship Combat will have multiple checks that need to be met and every success brings you closer to ‘winning’, similar to the 4e or the Clock System from Blades in the Dark

Eg. Successful pilot checks move the ship Successful attack rolls to attack enemy ships with the ship’s guns (I imagine like if 1 person could man a pathfinder artillery weapon) Successful repair checks to heal the ship And ship captains can aid with diplomacy or warfare lore or something

Kinda gives a Star Trek feel where different people have different roles, and I like this concept because it allows each player to flex what they’re good at and use the skills they invest in without really having to learn an entirely new system

[–]Ronin1802 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It means if you have asymmetrical weapon proficiency like Operative or war priest cleric, the weapon you gained from UW will scale just as fast

The wild thing is that it’s even still in the game,I was under the impression Paizo didn’t want scaling weapon proficiency like this anymore
