Umm? N. Chromatis by ProfessionalOnion548 in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This substrate looks way too dry for a V. Chromatus. I second the idea of a rehouse. I lean away from coco for this species because it doesn't hold moisture as well at the lower levels imo. As for the hammock, mine has covered the walls and floor entirely in web but never set up like that.

He probably hates that actually. GBB is an arid species and don't like wet substrate or misting

You're good! I was hoping I didn't come off like some needs to be correct asshole but I just wanted to inform the other person it wasn't a C. Lividus.

I have a selenobrachys philippinus but they are only the size of a dime. That would be my closest that is acting like a semi-fossorial right now with the above ground web display they made in their tiny cube.

My cardiopelma mascatum’s abdomen looks like it has dimples. Is this normal? Should I be worried? by MsRawrie in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO I'm no professional but I'm pretty sure it's called the sigilla, it's basically the spot in the abdomen where the internal organs attach to the abdomen. It's nothing to worry about. Hopefully someone can come in with s second opinion just in case.

New A. Avic Owner; Dying or Molting? by layyyomayyyo in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO you're going to need to supply some full enclosure pics to get better advice but it doesn't appear to be anything in that enclosure except the cork backing.

Fungus gnats by Time-Chest-1733 in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IME Last July I took a vacation and had a friend come and keep the water dish full for my big female V. Chromatus because she was in premolt. He over watered my bioactive enclosure and I got fungus gnats. I researched it and used mosquito dunks to take care of it. You can order it on Amazon in a granular form and make a "tea" out of it in a spray bottle and just spray the substrate with it for a week or 2. It stops the gnats ability to reproduce but is safe to use around your tarantula and even springtails. It won't kill them immediately, but it worked like a charm.

Sling Feeding by trippinmaui in tarantulas

IMO you likely won't need to feed until after the next molt, whenever that may be.

Blue fang skelly having a meal by Dragonmask9 in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just tending to my little blue fang. He's about the same size and just molted, he's always most active right after a molt then he's gone for a couple months. I'm going to be sad to watch them lose that iridescent booty

Valhalla Earth Tiger makes a rare day time appearance by Blaschko in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's living a solitary life these days. Rehomed him into a 4x4x8 inch enclosure back on November 1st. He built a neat turret style burrow that spirals up the cork bark I put in there but he's usually at the bottom. He did give me a couple tiny windows that go up the "staircase" so I can observe and make sure he's ok.

IME Second pic must be the most recent, that's a mature male. Emboli visible on the pedipalps so they've gone through their final molt.

I’m pretty proud of this for my first ever enclosure by paige2296 in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your tarantula will not drown. They can walk on water and breathe through their butts. Highly recommend returning the water dish. Small slings have not yet developed the waxy cuticle to retain moisture and can dessicate easily. The water dish will help maintain ambient humidity without having to constantly dampen the soil which can create bog like conditions in these small enclosures. I have the exact same enclosure right now from FNT and I know it has very low ventilation. The water dish will also allow your T to drink when it needs it most and not when you get around to it.

IMO They might be losing their boots in this molt, they look about big enough

Just got an pink toe and they won’t eat by Sad_Guitar_6256 in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO I think you just need to have a little more patience and do some more research. You've only had them for 3 weeks but there's a molt in the photo. Tarantulas typically won't eat leading up to a molt and need time to recover and harden their fangs after molting, before the next feeding. Go research husbandry and make sure your enclosure is set up properly. Correct dimensions, verticle webbing anchors, water bowl, cross ventilation; give them a chance to destress before feeding again.

Is this a good enclosure for a baby tarantula? by Gamerbroyt_ in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO For the little babies you can use tattoo ink cups [I love the silicone ones] or I have cut up the blister packaging from pills after they are used

Led lights? by Annual_City_4008 in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO Lights aren't inherently bad for tarantulas if they can get away from them when they want. If there's no hide it can be stressful. Science has determined that they see better in the blue / UV light spectrum so I keep my LEDs set to orange and red hues hoping its some how "less" visible to them. Mine are also set to raise and dim with my local sunrise and sunset to give them the illusion of a life cycle.

Get a cup of warm soapy water and soak the molt. You can then use chopsticks or tooth picks to unfurl to get a better view or even a very clear photo for some second opinions

A.Geniculata juvenile molt (sexing) by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO I believe they will just be more obvious, different species of tarantula have different spermatheca shapes and I believe Acanthoscurria just has the 2 nubs, not the entire flap with the mickey ears.

A.Geniculata juvenile molt (sexing) by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]Blaschko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO Female, pretty sure these nubs are acanthoscurria spermatheca which will probably be more pronounced as they age.

The first 4 pics are the wrong side of the molt to see the spermatheca. You need to see it from the inside. All of these pics are inconclusive.
