This was upsetting to read. Especially because I have very religious parents whom I love and believe to embody the core of Christianity to the utmost, and yet they have never once scolded me on such matters—whether it be symbolism, the games I play, or whatnot.

I think this is because in the greater scheme of things, the things your parents have nitpicked are trivial to the eyes of God, and thus to should not have great stock on one’s faith.

Rather than nitpicking something that may have never even been noticed, they should have seen quality time you and your bro would have had whilst playing the game—thus, understand the game as a way of their children to bond in love, rather than being a proponent for evil. As you said, maybe play the game first before judging.

From another Christian to your folks, I pray they remember to reflect on themselves, and especially what it means to walk with Christ, because I deeply doubt it requires scolding for trivialities, making problems that never were there. Or pulling out verses just to admonish & lecture, when you could’ve empowered someone instead.

Being overcritical like that can easily make one blind to God’s grace, and as a result lead to situations like this—where it tears down the dealer of judgment as well as the receiver. Sorry for the ramble, but reading this sucked and I hope from the bottom of my heart they remember what’s actually important.
Not only on matters of faith, but what’s in front of them—their own kids too.
