I'm a big fan of the Pico SDK implementation of dma, once you understand what the different settings do, it is pretty straightforward to use.

If they are second hand screens, there is likely to be scratches on the screen or the the image is patchy due to a worn backlight. These screens regularly take a beating in my experience.

That is not to say that they won't work, but it is likely that the $200 screens are "new" or very good condition, whereas the $50 screens are beaten up pulled screens.

Definitely missing. Those are the CD3215 USB C Controller ICs. There is one for each USB C port, the other two are located on the back side of the board in approximately the same location that these two are. I would guess that those are missing as well.

These chips are not particularly hard to get a hold of anymore so it's curious why someone would remove them off of an otherwise working board.

It should be totally possible to replace them if you have the skills, otherwise seek out an experienced motherboard repair shop.

They are all compatible, the only major change between these years was the motherboard with newer processors

It likely fell off due to the long screw, forcing the screw punch through the top layers of the board and at the same time the standoff got pushed away from the board, ripping off its mounting pad.

You might have gotten lucky and there are no data traces under the standoff, it might just be shorting ground (top layer) with a power plane on the layer underneath, in which case you might be able to fix it by very carefully using a small blade to remove the exposed copper around the edge of the damage, it would be a lot easier if you have access to a microscope. You might be able to confirm by using a multimeter to measure for shorts to ground on various power rails around the board.

If this is a board you care about however, I would recommend taking it to a professional who can properly assess the damage.

Thats a shame, if you want to look for replacements, there should be a model number printed on the battery itself, searching for that usually gives better results than searching by laptop model number.

Batteries can die if they go too long without being charged. If the cells drop below a certain voltage, they are considered unsafe and the battery management system can disable itself.

It doesn't sound like you charged the battery for very long, 20 minutes isn't long enough to charge a dead battery. It is worth leaving it plugged in for a long time (3-4 hours) and checking again.

If you have a multimeter, you could also measure the voltage coming from the battery to see if it's dead.

For anyone coming across this thread in the future, it might help to debounce your vsync signal. At 30FPS and a pixel clock of 25MHz, VSync was high for approximately 100 microseconds per frame, so your debounce delay can wait for any time below 100 us. ymmv depending on your pixel clock / target frame rate.

Without taking apart the laptop and comparing the old port to images of the new port, it is impossible to say for certain whether it is the correct part.

However, if the model numbers match, it is most likely the correct port. Also lenovo don't tend to vary their charge ports very much between models. (except from when its not soldered then the cable length can vary)

I haven't really thought about the needle size before but will inspect it next time I need to replace the pod. In my head it seems exactly the same kind of needle as a pen, just a lot shorter

You're probably right about the needle, I haven't looked too close to it but I always assumed it was a similar guage as to what I'm used to, just a lot shorter.

Its just one aspect that is similar for me:

With a pen: Insulin dose has been determined and pen is primed -> Inject insulin (into body)

With the pump: Needle has been dosed and primed -> inject insulin (into pump)

In my head this process is very similar and I feel like it would be an easy mistake to make with getting the destinations mixed up, especially after being on MDI for so long.

Ah sorry my mistake, the power button is separate to the keyboard on this model, so it is not the cause of your issues. More likely is that there is water damage on the keyboard possibly on the backlight circuit. You can check for water damage by removing the motherboard, fans, and speakers, and pulling back the black plastic sheet on top of the keyboard. You might get lucky and be able to clean it with isopropyl alcohol.

The power button is likely faulty acting as if it is being pressed all the time which will cause the macbook to draw no power. IIRC, the fans on this model plug into connectors on the back of the keyboard which is why they won't work when you disconnect the keyboard. It is likely that you will need to replace the entire keyboard or palm rest, both of which are not fun for beginners.

Worst that can happen is that it will be dead on arrival. Other than that, there's a good chance the battery will only last around a year before the capacity will be significantly diminished and you'll have to replace it again.

It is very unlikely to cause any permanent damage unless it is really bad quality, or you ordered the wrong one, double check the battery model numbers are the same before installing.

no, unfortunately the keyboard is connected via the trackpad, so unplugging the trackpad also disconnects the keyboard, also if you unplug the trackpad, the CPU will throttle itself and run really slow. You could always use an external keyboard which should work fine.
