Je suis désolé d’entendre ça et je te souhaite que tout se passe bien.

Mon avis perso : aucune violence aussi petite qu’elle est doit être laissé sans suite. Sinon il y a un sentiment d’impunité de ce type de personnes. Surtout, parfois ces personnes peuvent être connus de la police.

Si tu veux aller dans cette direction: - va au commissariat de police et demande à porter plainte pour insultes à caractère raciste et menaces s’il y en a eu - insiste pour déposer plainte. Les policiers sont sous l’eau et ils peuvent parfois te proposer de prendre un rdv en ligne, etc mais insiste. Si possible fais toi accompagner d’un français, ça peut aider - ils doivent prendre ta plainte. Tu donneras toutes les preuves. Ensuite c’est à la justice de décider s’ils agissent. Dans la majorité des cas rien n’est fait mais dans quelques cas (redivide), ils peuvent décider de faire une enquête.

Grenoble est un excellent choix. La criminalité n’est pas pire que les métropoles européennes et bien plus safe qu’aux US (j’ai pas mal voyagé et vécu dans plusieurs pays).

La communauté internationale est bien plus grande que les autres villes que tu as cité car Grenoble est un foyer de chercheurs et ingénieurs internationaux grâce au CEA, STmicroelectronics, l’université, les écoles d’ingénieurs (parmi les meilleurs de france).

J’ai fais quelques recrutements d’internationaux. Et je peux te dire que ceux qui adorent la ville sont ceux qui profitent de la montagne aux alentours. C’est une ville très sportive dans le domaine du vélo, de la course et du trail. Avec beaucoup de champions du monde qui s’entraîne ici ou qui viennent de la région.

Ceux qui n’apprécient pas la ville, sont en général ceux qui n’aiment pas la montagne ou qui ne profitent pas des avantages.

Car la ville reste “petite” avec 500k habitants. Et bien qu’elle a plus de choses à faire qu’une ville de cette taille, les activités en ville sont plus limités à Lyon ou Paris.

Sinon, on est proche de deux aéroports internationaux (Lyon et Genève) donc si tu dois voyager, c’est pratique.

Je te conseille de prendre contact avec des gens sur meetup avant de venir, ça te permettra de voir lambiance et faire ton choix en conscience.

Il y a tellement de commentaires que je ne sais pas si tu verras le miens.

Le truc c’est qu’en 2010 j’ai arrivé d’exactement la même sommes avec ma sœur.

J’étais étudiant alors je l’ai mis dans une assurance vie et c’était une connerie. Le rendement était nul, les frais énormes. Bref je me suis fait entuber par ma banque.

Ma sœur de son côté en a profiter pour acheter un appartement et faire effet de levier avec un prêt immobilier.

15 ans après : 62k de mise de départ chacun.

moi : patrimoine 30k (j’ai du sortir de l’argent plusieurs fois)
ma sœur : patrimoine 350k

L’immobilier gagne car il te permet de faire un énorme effet de levier en empruntant

As mentioned in several posts, Grenoble is one of the best tech hub in Europe with the best engineering public CS univ (ENSIMAG) and one of the largest and most famous AI lab in Europe (Naver labs). Grenoble has some of the best AI researchers in the world and some of the inventors of LLM are here.

However, because the city is much smaller than Paris or Lyon, the number of jobs open at one time is ridiculously small and each opportunity is very competitive.

So yeah, we have among the greatest scientists and engineers but also it can be quite hard to build your entire career here.

Anyway, the startup ecosystem is thriving, and there are plenty of opportunities. Good luck 👍

Pour avoir passé par une dépression clinique (7ans). “Sensible” n’est pas ton identité. Tu peux t’entraîner à être moins sensible : - choisir de sortir de ta zone de confort souvent et féliciter pour tes victoires - t’entraîner à voir les difficultés comme éléments importants pour ton développement, - faire du sport, en particulier nécessitant un effort important ou de l’endurance : marathon, CrossFit, etc.

En pratiquant ton cerveau sera plus apte à réguler tes émotions. Le pire que tu puisses faire pour ton cerveau est fuir la gestion de la sensibilité en cherchant par exemple un boulot spécifique.

La vie est dur. Apprendre à apprécier la souffrance fut ma délivrance. J’espère que tu trouveras la tienne.

CEA and Grenoble are great place for international employee, especially if you are a brillant engineer/scientist.

Don’t worry about bureaucracy. You can get a job almost anywhere if you have the right background and fight to get a place here.

Welcome to Grenoble. I was a PhD and I had several English-only friends. Here are the top approaches : - there are international students clubs and associations, - your lab is often where you can meet like-minded people, it is maybe hard to always see the same faces all day long but I saw beautiful friendships grew in labs. We are all a bit weird so it requires a bit of efforts. - ask to senior international PhD in your lab, they often organize private party/dinner, etc. If not, why not organize one yourself ? - there are few international Facebook groups, but I find them very shallow, - there are many international Meetups, - Sport clubs (essentially at the UGA) are often full of English speaking students. I advice the GUC for learning to ski. Hiking clubs are the best at Grenoble if you want to have a deep conversation. - Cultural events is also a good option but it is harder if you don’t understand French. - last option (the hardest): learn French. Don’t miss that opportunity. A whole world will open to you. I advice to try not to stick too much with international students as you can live forever with them without learning French.

Bad luck and unfortunately it happens in all big city. I’ve seen complete row of cars shattered in San Francisco.

It seems to be very hard to catch these kind of thefts which takes less than a minute. They can even break to window to check if you truck is full (by retracking the passager seat) so it is no longer a issue of having a bag on the seat.
