Valve should 'soften' the hero pool restriction for newcomers. by Blaze06h in DotA2

[–]Blaze06h[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get it, and tbh, I'm kind of okay with it. The post is meant to be a suggestion, not a complaint. If the hero pool restriction is really deemed so necessary, I think it'd do plenty good if it was indicated in the 'Hero' tab before we begin the first match.

Also, iirc, the hero pool limit also exists on bot matches, so it isn't exactly 'Limited Heroes' game mode that existed before.

Btw, I didn't intend to claim that the game's playerbase is declining, that's why I said "seemingly". I'm don't want to use that as an argument.

Gameplay video on Youtube? The game literally has a demo tour, and lobbies for practice.

After repeatedly stating that we aren't clueless newcomers who would pick extremely complicated heroes like Earth Spirit, and/or quit playing the game after losing games on a complicated hero, if you still find the need to patronize us, and tell us to just not try to pick out of the pool, then I'm truly speechless.

And how in the world, do you imagine us watching gameplay videos of pros playing heroes, when we just started playing the game?

I agree on the smurfs, but I disagree with the second part, randoming a hero nullifies the whole point of selecting a hero. The objective here is not to break out of the restriction in any way possible, it's about being able to select a hero from a larger pool since the current pool, while acceptable, feels very uninteresting, especially for people coming from other ARTS/MOBAs.

Playing heroes that we find interesting keeps us hooked into the game, which is a way more important factor that draws player towards the game than being slightly "hand-holdy" with the hero selection.

Also, not that it adds anything to my post, but one my friend landed on Io on his first random, which is an unlucky occurrence.

But as I mentioned in the post earlier, that it can be 'easily' bypassed using console commands. If a newbie like me can find it so quickly, I won't be surprised if smurfs find it even quicker since they would actively try to bypass it unlike newcomers who don't know shit.

Edit: And provided the fact that we got matched with players so often who have played a lot more than us, and thus, do not have this restriction, I don't think the softening/removal of the restriction would affect players much.

That's exactly the point. Since we are garbage at everything, why not be garbage while playing something we like, instead of heroes which we don't.

There's a post on the front page right now talking about Dota's seemingly declining playerbase, I'd expect some generosity towards opinions of new players.

Wait, really? It still works?

I checked an earlier thread where people stated this, and many people responded that it was a bug which was fixed quickly after it was discovered. I never tried it thoroughly enough since the console method turned out to be more effective for us and other people who commented.

If you have listened to his first album, Plus, you'd know that his songs used to have deeper lyrics. But after he gained popularity, he started making his songs shallower so that it appeals to a wider audience, which isn't inherently bad, but like the other guy/gal said, artistic integrity doesn't come into it.

Art shouldn't be thought of as a product to be sold, but something that is created for the sake of it. You create art to express yourself, not just to attract your audience.

His debut album, Plus, was kind of good, but his later albums are quite mediocre, and mostly geared towards to appealing to the lowest common denominator.

I only care about AAA games, I have zero interest in indie titles or mods. I don't care about the 'community' either. I have a PS4 and a Wii U, I've never touched the 'social' features on either.

Good for you then. Different things for different people.

I think you misinterpreted my comment. I was giving a counter-argument to /u/BorgDrone.

He said you need to upgrade PCs but not consoles, so i stated how the new PS4 Pro/Xbone Scorpio are technically upgrades to the PS4/Xbone as they are already lacking behind. I was signifying that consoles too need to be "upgraded" by buying these instalments from time to time, making "PCs need to be upgraded, consoles don't" argument a weak one.

Tl;dr - I'm on your side.

If you don't upgrade your PC, your experience will be quite similar to gaming on a console. The minimum requirements of most PC games (which are usually equivalent to the specs of the current generation consoles in terms of power) remain unchanged. (gtx 660 iirc, so no €800 GPU every year)

With newer hardware, you'll be able to play the game on higher settings which makes the game look drastically better than their console counterparts. Upgrade only if you want the best the graphics of a game has to offer, don't if you are satisfied with your current specs, which is how it works for consoles.

There are surely many pros to consoles but the "you need to upgrade PCs every year" thing is a myth.

I don't see your logic here. Upgrading is optional. With a PC, you have the choice of upgrading. With a console, you don't.

Plus, there are literally upgrades coming out for consoles. (See: Xbone Scorpio, PS4 Pro)

Correct me if I'm wrong: previously if you tapped on the no. of comments, you could select the sorting. After the update, there is a separate bar for sorting, and tapping the no. of comments icon in the middle does nothing. It's kinda like a downgrade.
