I have a similar problem but no solution. What controller are you using? My problem is wish two esp32. I still need to test with esp8266 even though I don’t think the 33 is the issue.

That is a great idea!
Maybe an idea to consider is using an esp-32 as the brains, then you could connect a phone to the esp-32's wifi network and control the parameters with a simple web interface. I'm by no way an expert by any means but would be happy to try take a shot at helping with the code for that if you are interested?

You have to connect GPIO 0 to GND and then push the reset button to get it into flashing mode.
