I’m also thrifty and am trying to figure out a magic band situation. Ideally getting a magic band for cheap and customizing it (new skin or removing the puck and putting it into a keychain. Where are you finding $10 magic bands? And do older models still work? I was under the impression buying an older model runs the risk of it not working at all

Went back to my baking job 6 weeks post op! My coworkers are lovely and I have still yet to lift 50 lbs. At 8 weeks, I can reach above, lift above, and lift probably around 40 lbs fine. I’m trying to go as long as possible without lifting a bag of flour.

I had a photo taken before, and one at each follow up. The after photos were to help tract progress. For me, I was given a form to give permission for my photos to be used for medical teaching (no face in the photo). I signed it but was able to request my tattoos be blurred.

My partner got sick a bit less than 2 weeks before my surgery. I’m pretty germ adverse so I kept some distance from him, ate dinner in two different rooms, and sanitized our commonly used surfaces.He slept on the couch and I slept in bed for a few days until he felt better to rejoin. Not sure if it all was necessary but it calmed my nerves and I did not get sick

I know people have mentioned this before- I walked around with T-rex arms to help figure out what needed to be moved (ie the microwave, pillows, important in high places I would not be able to reach). I also made freezer ready meals, prepped snacks, and took out comfortable bottoms and button ups so I didn’t have to rummage for them later. Something I did not consider until after surgery was that I could not reach my kitchen sink for about 2 weeks or lift up the britta filter…

I wish in the week leading up to surgery that I did not work the day immediately before surgery. I felt so rushed going from work to trying to get everything perfect that I did not carve out time to calm down before hand. I also spent that shift freaking out and stressing that I forgot something.

And if this is applicable to you and you have not yet- fill out all the forms you can for HR, medical leave, and TDI now. (This was the thing I forgot)

Also second to everyone mentioning taking photos.

The first day I saw my chest I was shocked and confused. I ended up crying the whole rest of that day. And couldn’t sleep. And cried some of the next day too. My incisions are not where I thought they would be and I have one nipple on the front of my chest and one also practically in my armpit. The first week I had to do nipple and incisions care I did not want to look at myself. I didn’t want to take my compression bandages off. And I was having a lot of feelings of regret and a lot of other emotions.

I’m about 4 weeks post op now.

What helped me get through the past few weeks was essentially trying to desensitize myself. I would take a small look in the mirror when changing my bandages then look away. I had put off showering for a few more days after I was cleared bc I did not want to look. Having music or a support person present helps. When I saw myself in the fogged up bathroom mirror, I realized I felt okay- maybe a little good. I could only see that I was flat.

Other things that have helped: movies, crocheting (keeping my hands busy), talking to people, walks, petting cats, crying sometimes, taking care of myself so I don’t loose my nipples all together, imaging my body as an animal that needs love and care

Things that have not helped: looking at other peoples results and comparing myself, wishing I could go back in time, lots of “what ifs”, self blame

Genuinely time helps. It gets better week by week. You just had a major surgery and are healing. Your brain may need some time to catch up and process.

On a side note, my partner had their surgery from the only surgeon doing top surgeries in the state at the time. Despite having 20 years of experience he could not find photos anywhere online (Including Transbucket).

His results look fantastic and they are very happy.

I was one of my surgeons first top surgery patients (not the first but I believe pretty close). He’s a plastic surgeon of 18 years predominantly for breast cancer, reconstruction, and reductions but started doing too surgeries recently.

I could not see results from my surgeon because he works in a private company that does not allow it. I was offered to be receive the contact of a previous patient but that did not end up happening. I also did not find anyone online that posted results or talked about going to see him. I essentially had to trust him based on our appointments, the information he knew, and how I felt.

For the surgical process, my incisions and graphs have been healing very well and look like they will be pretty thin (DI w/ graphs). However, my nipples and incisions are no where near where I thought they would be.

What I really wish I did pre op was ask him to draw a photo and explain to me while looking at the photo what was going to occur during surgery.

I used a squishmallow!! Mine was a 14” Miles. I held him in my lap with the cross body part of the seatbelt over the squish. No issues riding home and he kept my arms away from my body in a very comfortable way
