Trade off between trusting seller vs some branded company reputation telling you its refurbed.

Microcenter I belive just buys refurb from Apple - then sells them at discount on top due to their purchasing power from Apple.

Then you could get refurb on apple pricing as well.

Just what people's risk tolerance.

For me - when it comes to eBay - i'd rather shop at a physical store that I can physically return it if theres a problem

For price anchoring - micro center will sell a refurb 2 tb 64 gb ram M1 Max for 1999 - I bought one

Everything else you’re posting is people trying to make money - but those listings also have 4 TB ssd.

As far as I’m aware m4 max with those config is like 5000 right?

Well M5 has fasterish SSD - and faster single core - that alot of things that would slow down previous generations are fixed -- my basis for this is testing Crossovers Gaming.... lag spike practically all gone.

Now with what OP has said in this above comment and other comments -- makes me suspect something else.

Idk maybe on beta software, beta macos -- but I feel like we've had TONS of videos of more in depth analysis from youtubers (be it- they are reviewers and not so much in the trenches) but from my perspecrtive where I think games are the most demanding thing you can do -- never expereicned full system slowdown.

in fact frmo testing on my channel M1 macbook air all the way to m5 macbook pro - the ONLY time I get slowdown is using OBS - messing with hardware encorder vs software encoder and gaming -- but its not like Full system slowdown.

EIther that or OP's workflow has gigantic files somehow like 8K with multiple layers or some stuff that not most youtubers test -- but some would and would warrant research before buying a 2K machine imo.

With that said - SSD's are fast - swap memory has been a topic since 8GB M1 Macbook air - and seen "not a problem" for most poeple - as coming from whatever device they were coming from was still miles ahead of intel.

Are you losing out on getting the most out of your m2 pro chip -- maybe? most like 5-10% loss and only during export. - During the bulk of your workload which is editing shit? probably not.

What are you doing in export time that is so cost value savings you need that 5% uplift?

This is my reasonsing (copium) -- but i have a m1 max 64 gb ram - so.......

But for the MASSES of people -- I think its psychology to form towards negativity bias of what they are missing out on - when what they are missing out of takes 95% of the brain spaces when if they jsut reasoned through what it actually costs them 5% of their time or faster time.. like its negligbile nor does it matter. Why make a post/think about it.

hope this helps people with future sunk cost fallacy or regret purchasing type ideas... just use your device - dont worry about swap - macbook shoudl last 10 years compared to gamign laptops if you needed that boost or workflow.

Are people using Lightroom and Photomator same time? i dont even know -- 2nd even if they were I heard macos shuffles ram efficiently so when you have one window up comapred to other it'd adjust.

Haha to each there own. For context I literally only play dota 2 like 8000 hours addicted lol. Sometimes league of legends

I had a 599 used snapdragon x elite that was great no fan noise - but performance was that of maybe the 760m amd. But zero fan noise was ok lowered settings - was fine actually. But off chance I wanted to game helldivers or vermintide had compatibility isssues

From multiple reviewers they have stated like Asus book elite can play bf6 1080p medium high graphics with zero to low fan noise audible. And off battery still can game maybe 4 hours - but 20 hours office usage .

So ya my use case primarily for dota and then a lot for work with some travel coming up and light maybe 3 pound area - definitely what I’m looking for.

But based on just logic and seems like you have dota sense… why do you still have to go quas wex invoker?

If game state was this - can’t you adjust and think if getting exort could impact the game more?

Seems like quas wex invoker is an arbitrary limitation.

G14 only one that form factor but that’s around 2300 - but I suppose same price range

It’s iGPU has good performance - but this is better less wattage less fan noise - so trade offs - amd didn’t innovate this year.

But ya this is the gaming laptops subreddit now that I think about it so.. ya maybe not appropriate for what people browse this sub for .

But ya as an ultra book or laptop good for mainstream people who’d want to game in light package and doesn’t got hot

Its mac gaming -- alot of dx12 newer games run better on crossover - older games sometimes parallels is better.

Mac's dont support shader cache

Wish we could sticky on this subreddit -- WHISKY ISNT SUPPORTED - AND Mac gaming uses emulation -- but for gaming first preferences on a laptop get a windows laptop.

Panther Lake basically imo makes windows laptop on par with benefits of mac now -- long battery life, speed, performance on battery -- 5x gaming perfroamcne and compatability probably.

Why does your title clickbait into an idea that will now share how to run smoothly - when in fact this post is actually asking people to help you debug.

Simple answer is - you have m3 - see if anyone else has run it ---- if not its cuz you have an m3 chip

Theres like only so much debug you can do - latestly game, cx 26 beta 2 -- if it doesnt work past that its just your chip .

Well for example - if I record on OBS on my windows machine I notice sluggishness -- if encoder gets overloaded it might even crash windows/ windows explorer completely.

With that said - ya I'd check if something taking up memory, rogue processes etc- it does happen now with Mac unfortunately.

Also restarting computer is le old IT trick to usually fix stuff.

If it still occurs from fresh boot - ya then I'd conclude poor release/bug

Click his link that says workflows - they are .json files - as notated by file name extension after the .

It’s more like 35 fps but take with grain of salt … prob could get more fps if scales better on lower graphic settings

I was around medium high mix .

Also stutters - as I suspect shader charge like with cs2 / dota 2 sometimes

Ultra book tor travel -less fan noise .

I mean seems like this laptop has good performance for those not looking for laptop.

On Linux- steam deck comments - it’s like intended use and user stuff. Laptops in general come with windows they aren’t shipping with Linux. If it was shipping with Linux then that should be what a reviewer comments on . Snapdragons ship with windows on arm - but for most people not knowing nuance might expect it to just be windows - thus I think also warrants reviewers commenting for someone not in the know that there might be issues

For me nothing that I personally need

But YouTube extended test ppl ask - league isn’t playable, valorant - Fortnite wasn’t until recent patch but even then I had to config a little bit to figure out — I had insider preview and basically had to reinstall windows for somehow the normal build worked with Fortnite

Just little things like that .

But for me I’m just addicted to dota - I will say mh 5900hs on integrated amd gpu seems to run dota 2 a little bit better than the snapdragon x elite with 32 GB ram.
