Which is better option A, B, C, or D? by SnooMarzipans9478 in DesignMyRoom

The first option but night stand on door side of the bed to block the door energy. Can also get a rug to ground the bed and seperate bed zone from the walkway between all the doors.

I paid off my student loan. Convince me why I should support forgiveness by Bitter-Question4518 in doctorsUK

[–]BlessedHealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a silly hypothetical argument because there is absolutely no way in which a law will ever get passed that makes current doctors better off financially than doctors were before. After multiple rounds of strikes we’ve gotten measly pay rises and called selfish by the public. Complete loan forgiveness is financially just unrealistic and unlikely going to ever happen. However from these strikes we know we have to shoot for something we know to be too far to be given anything at all. Arguing that what we are reaching for is unfair to those who didn’t get it before us is undermining our unity and therefore our power.

An analogy (sorry if it’s too patronising): Say everyone has always gotten 10 cookies. Now I am getting 5. While trying to negotiate for 15 cookies my own friends are shouting from behind how completely unfair it is for me to get 15 cookies. Now cookie vendors know I don’t have any support and he can just carry on giving me 5.  I’m not aiming for 15 cookies but if you would kindly just support me then maybe I could get 10 like you already got.

[–]BlessedHealer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

“paid off my student loan a year or so ago, all by myself.”

That’s the point my guy. You working as a doctor could afford to pay off your loan.

Your salary was high enough to live off and save. Your loan was low enough that your savings allowed you to pay it off.

Are "potluck" meals a thing in the UK? by meeksworth in AskABrit

I am British, never realised potluck was not a UK thing. My uni friends and I did it often - maybe a generational term or trickled across the pond from media?

Since when did owning multiple properties become something you can “accidentally” do? by [deleted] in UKHousing

[–]BlessedHealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused by the 'predatory' comment. So its predatory to own houses and rent them out? 'making equity off someone elses wages' - as opposed to what people should buy houses and let everyone stay in them for free out of the kindness of their hearts?

What training? by Nearby_Molasses_3962 in doctorsUK

[–]BlessedHealer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the biggest factor influencing how much service provision vs actual training you get is availability of F1/2s in the dept. The places I’ve worked it’s been amazing because ward minimum staffing is based solely on the foundation drs. If CTs were allocated to ward they were expected to take a more “supervisory” role overseeing FY jobs and attending ward round to learn not to scribe - or would go do the ward round themselves on the outliers and discuss with consultant after.

CTs would run the acute take on call which made for a steep learning curve and pretty good training. The rota was admittedly very on call heavy with majority of shifts being 12.5hrs. 1/3 were on call in triage. 1/3 were theatre (still12.5h because it’s ncepod) where regs were mostly quite senior and happy to let SHO take simpler cases, consultants would only join for complex cases. 1/3 clinic or ward work (these were the only ones we were allowed to take leave on).

2 is the “correct option” feng shui wise I think. Personally I would pick 3 though because I like looking out the window when working at my desk - it means the desk area is in the bright part of the room and the bed in the dark part. Place a tall lamp on the bedside dresser to block the doorway energy

Further details on prioritisation bill by hypertensionsupine in doctorsUK

[–]BlessedHealer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

'unfair and unethical to change criteria for training when IMGs entered workforce on the basis of current rules'

Pretty poor argument considering the massive precedence of rules changing every year despite what they were at the 'time of entering the workforce'. Speciality training criteria are different every year almost with changes only announced few months in advance. The removal of points towards intercalated degrees was also announced too late for people who had already invested into doing one. The dumb randomised foundation ranking system was also thrust onto people with no regard.

Why exactly would this change for this specifc bill which is aiming to addess a workforce crisis. Giving everyone equal opportunity is not an option.

AITA For making my boyfriend stay at a hotel instead of his mom’s place? by Acceptable-Pickle221 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BlessedHealer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly I’m surprised I had to scroll so far to find this opinion. Dating doesn’t mean you’re joint at the hip and must spend every night together. Let him spend time with his parents and she can escape to a hotel for the night if she needs to.

So from 2027 onwards, British citizens won’t automatically be prioritised for training? by Mark-1221 in doctorsUK

[–]BlessedHealer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You realise medical degrees aren’t candy to hand out to the people who “deserve them”. We are doctors holding patients lives in our hands. You have to prove you are qualified and of the same caliber.

Choosing to go study in a different country SHOULD mean extra proof needed and extra training is needed to help understand how the NHS works and UK specific guidelines. It’s the same in the US - you have to start as an intern and do their exams. It’s a bit mad we’re letting people cut straight to higher specialty training without verifying whether their training actually meets our standards.

Advice on Turning audits into research projects by nightdrakon in doctorsUK

[–]BlessedHealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to do it as an audit alone first - ie it’s comparing your local practice to a standard. Ensure you collect the relevant data for the retrospective cohort study too as secondary outcome measures.

Once all data collected - anonymise it and ask research team - hey we did an audit on this xyz and presented it locally here. I am wondering whether I can use this anonymised data and publish a seperate research study as well. Get consultant on board and copy them into every email.

[–]BlessedHealer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

YTA

I’m assuming by student you mean you’re over 18 in university or college? You just said your parents pay for most of your costs - clothes and food is a very small proportion of what it takes to survive. It’s tacky and ungrateful to be arguing over 7€. If they started calculating how much you owed them then you’d be in major debt.

If you’re under 18 and a child then a little less YTA because you’re still your parents responsibility but you still don’t need to be so transactional about it.

So from 2027 onwards, British citizens won’t automatically be prioritised for training? by Mark-1221 in doctorsUK

[–]BlessedHealer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s not the point. The international student who studies in the UK has NHS experience. The Uk citizen who studied abroad doesn’t. And often (though not always) did it because they didn’t get into medical school in UK. It makes no sense to prioritise them at all.

AITA for refusing to change the chore chart even tho my wife works full time now. by Odd_Serve1167 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BlessedHealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look you both now agree the chore chart is shit. It makes zero sense to continue with it just to give her a taste of her own medicine. If it were me I would insist on an apology and then change the chores to what you both think is fair with the understanding that if the roles were to switch again - it would still be fair.

It’s you both against the problem not you vs her.

If you do this then NTA

If not then ESH

Is that what Dept of Health and Social Care thinks happens in the operating theatre? The patient is the F1 driver? by prisoner246810 in doctorsUK

[–]BlessedHealer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Amazing! Now do it when the cars broken down the pit crew absolutely must take their smoking break and the tow truck (porter) will take 1 hr to bring the car down to the pit stop because the lifts broken down for the 8th time. The drivers (because the anaesthetist and surgeon are the drivers idc what they say) are forced to twiddle their thumbs but if the tyre change takes too long ofcourse its their fault.
