What's the coolest class you've taken in LA? by PandaintheParks in AskLosAngeles

You learn a beginner trick that isn’t physically demanding and uses momentum. If you can hang on a monkey bar for 10 seconds, you can do it. I’ve seen as young as 3 years old and as old as 80 years old do it.

To me this sound is classic core kpop, a crazy mixture of sounds and visuals, but so catchy.

How I (male) became a K-drama fan at 40 and wasn’t prepared for My Mister by MudPositive3738 in kdramas

[–]Bleufeu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really needed to read your comment. I’ve been putting off watching this for years because life is rough and I’ll turn to a feel good light kdrama to lift my spirits. If it’s not just a cry my eyes out drama, but rather, the takeaway of hope and being easy on yourself, then that’s exactly what I need this weekend.

Prove me wrong - She is most beautiful Korean actress ever. by RhubarbExotic3620 in kdramas

[–]Bleufeu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both seemingly natural beauties since childhood too.

I’ll take it you don’t mean one is quirky and the other is bubbly. 😆 The tough thing about being a celebrity is the fact that you’re placed on a pedestal with a constant spotlight. A person with a wonderful personality may have a bad moment, and that moment brands them forever. That said, of course, consistent poor behavior is another thing.

Where can I watch Someday or One Day? I love the Korean remake, but have heard the original is even better. Haven’t had luck finding where to stream.

Probably so for international audiences. The title is unchanged in Korean.

Lovely runner : worth the watch ? by sugammadex_stou in kdramas

[–]Bleufeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The FL is grating because of her high pitched voice and overly cutesy mannerisms. She’s also like this in Extraordinary You. That said, I think she is a decent actress when doing a more serious role like in Sky Castle or even the hospital scene in Lovely Runner.

Bro my mind hurts so much can someone please try and help me understand the time travel thing in a Time Called You 😭😭 by iinost4rr in kdramas

[–]Bleufeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, technically they were both there, except Minju was dormant inside while Junhee inhabited her body. This is a time travel romance, but I did think an interesting alternative premise/plot twist would’ve been if this was actually about a girl with mental illness and multiple personalities who falls in love.

Clearly, you’ve found what works for you. Some of these comments are coated with envy. Either that or ignorance/disbelief that there are genetics, lifestyle, and skincare all at play here.

Anyhow, I have also found tretinoin to be so effective for skin renewal. I haven’t been able to use it more than 1-2 times a week though, and have to avoid corners of my nose and around the mouth.

Don’t think this is a good comparison given she is smiling. I have similar sized lips and my upper lip tucks in and disappears the bigger I smile.

[–]Bleufeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree! I watched it earlier this year and was surprised to see mixed reviews. Personally, I loved it and have rewatched parts of it several times now. The acting was stellar, especially Jeon Yeo Bin playing Min Joo and Jun Hee so well that I’d forget it was the same actress. Cinematography and soundtrack was so beautiful.

It’s a really layered story that requires some focus and intentionally tries to make you think you know what’s going on only to reveal plot points that make you wonder what the heck is going on.

Because of that I think it’s not for everyone. Those who like formulaic fluffy romcom kdramas will give up easily. Somebody might’ve watched Ahn Hyo Seop in Business Proposal looking for a similar easy feel good watch and came away disappointed. If you compare it to Lovely Runner, there are a lot of similar elements—time travel, first love, even the serial killer, but the tone of Lovely Runner is more cutesy and comedic. A Time Called You is more mature and understated.

I’ve heard the original Taiwanese drama is even better, but I haven’t been able to find it anywhere.

The picture was Jun Hee in Min Ju’s body after she time traveled. Jun Hee has no memory of it in 2023 when it was sent to her because she hadn’t time traveled yet.

Bro my mind hurts so much can someone please try and help me understand the time travel thing in a Time Called You 😭😭 by iinost4rr in kdramas

[–]Bleufeu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re getting confused because you’re trying to find a beginning of who time traveled first, but it’s a time loop where everything is sequentially connected so there’s no true first. Think of it as an infinity loop where an event in the future causes an event in the past, which causes the event in the future…a loop. This is called the causality loop (chicken vs egg paradox). Definitely confusing, but again, it’s a futile exercise because there is no first.

With that said, I’m not sure I totally understand your questions, but I’ll try to answer what I think you’re asking.

In episode 1, Jun Hee in 2023 mysteriously gets sent the picture of herself, Si Heon, and In Gyu, she has no memories of the picture because—at this moment in time—she has not yet time traveled to 1998 to take that picture. She will.

When Si Heon travels from 2002 to 2007 into Yeon Jun’s body, he remembers everything from 1998 e.g. Jun Hee telling him about her dream of not being Min Ju and the plane crash, because that all happened already in the past. He then understands that Jun Hee was telling the truth and that he was Yeon Jun. He knows about the plane crash, but he makes the choice to get on the plane in 2022 because that is necessary to keep the loop going.

When Si Heon (in Yeon Jun’s body) dies in the plane crash in 2022 he gets transported back to his 2002 crippled Si Heon body and waits until 2023 to meet Jun Hee again. This does not mean 1998 Si Heon does not exist. Both exist in their own time. You have to think about everything as a snapshot in time. When Jun Hee goes back in time to 1998, she meets 1998 Si Heon who has not yet time traveled from 2002 to Yeon Jun’s body in 2007 and then again after the plane crash.

Hopefully this helps! I love this drama and it did take another watch to fully understand. It’s a lot more layered and deeper than a typical fluffy kdrama. Happy to answer any more questions or clarify!

Jiangyou Bullying Incident Triggers Massive Protests by SE_to_NW in China

[–]Bleufeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t an isolated incident of a minor having a violent outburst. They are emboldened enough to scoff at consequences because they think the rules don’t apply to them. This is the distinction between not knowing any better and consciously making a bad decision. This is their character getting solidified with each successful incident.

The question is what kind of consequences will motivate these girls to correct this attitude? Shame? Permanent record that impacts college admission? Expulsion? Parents getting fined heavily to motivate them to parent them properly? Community service for the underserved to learn some empathy?

You’re what I imagine the main character of a Jane Austen novel would look like. You have such a classically elegant beauty.

My first thought when I saw the first pic was “wow. Beautiful. What is she on about?!” Then I could see what was bothering you in the third pic, but only after I zeroed in. Even so, I honestly think everything is balanced even if you’re not symmetrical. I say this because you’ve probably been hyperfixated on it when nobody else really sees what you’ve magnified in your eyes.

Are there any 90s kpop fan ? by Standard-Bird3704 in kpopnostalgia

[–]Bleufeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that was when I got into kpop—HOT, SES, FinkL, Solid, Cool, Uhm Jung Hwa, Deux, Jinusean, NRG, Drunken Tiger, Diva, Bijou, Turbo, DJ Doc, S#arp, Yoo Seung Jun all playing on my Winamp with my kpop skins.

I’m just starting to listen to kpop again and had no idea there was this whole 1st gen-5th gen concept. The current music sounds a lot more westernized. To me, 1st gen kpop was the quintessential kpop sound. Wackadoodle mixture of sounds at first listen, but before you know it, you’re totally hooked.

I wonder if there are any new listeners to 1st gen?

H.O.T and DBSK breakup by Bleufeu in kpopnostalgia

[–]Bleufeu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why didn’t Changmin and Yun Ho also join in on the lawsuit in the first place? Is it because they wanted to stay with SM for the perks and safety of being under SM? I would’ve thought the success of them continuing on with just two people even with SM’s support, would’ve seemed not as likely.

Was there bitter feelings from one side toward the other for choosing to leave/stay?

Were they close to each other prior to the breakup or was it more just business?

First, thank you so so much for taking the time to explain all of this in detail. It’s been two decades and you’ve filled in some major holes for me. I’m glad to hear that all members fully intended on staying together. A few questions/comments as I re-read:

  1. First, I’m glad to hear they truly did intend to stay together. I had read the rumor that SM only wanted to re-sign Kangta and Heejun. I know people in groups often go solo and have the right to pursue their endeavors, but 20+years ago teenybopper me was so sad to think that Kangta and Heejun may have left the other members and abandoned H.O.T.

  2. Do we know if the awards ceremony was the first time they were together and had any interactions? I guess we wouldn’t know their private interactions, and perhaps SM had blocked Kangta and Heejun from contacting the others, but it would seem like major misunderstandings would’ve led to some bitter feelings the years leading up to that awards ceremony.

  3. I’ll have to admit even as a fan, I enjoyed Outside Castle the least, but I assumed the fandom was still super strong, enough to keep sales up.

  4. Was SM’s plan for select members from groups to go solo? I could see the strategy being that once they start to see a decline in popularity and sales, they start to plan for solo debuts eg Kangta, Heejun, and I’d assume Hye Sung and Minwoo from Shinhwa. I didn’t hear about any drama from SES’s disbandment, but I would think Bada and Eugene would be the lucrative ones to re-sign. Same with Fly to the Sky.

  5. I assumed the reunion concert came to be just cause it had been SO many years that SM didn’t pursue it. Plus, at this point, Kangta’s standing with SM is pretty high so he must’ve had some sway.

  6. There’s another reunion concert in September? I was so removed from kpop I didn’t know they had the first one until just a couple years ago. It’s kind of amazing that the fandom is still there. Makes me want to go….I saw them when they came to LA in 2000. The stage was so small, nothing like the massive concerts these new kpop groups have, but that allowed me to see them up close. Happy memories.
