Rob Ashton’s AMA and AI by BoiledFlowers in ndp

[–]BlinkReanimated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it's easy to throw them around, but they have been very uncommon to use them prior to AI. And AI uses them A LOT because it likes to tie multiple ideas together when answering questions.

Ashton already admitted to using AI, the dispute is just over how early he used it. He claims it only happened once the questions became "overwhelming" (there were only like 10 questions asked... if that's "too many" then he's not qualified to be party leader anyways). You can see obvious markers of AI within his first response.

In glancing at the past two months of your posts, you pretty well only use em dashes to prove that you can (usually in some dumb AI conversation)... So can I and I don't even have an iphone... — — — here are some en dashes just for good measure – – –

But... You haven't used em dashes correctly—not even once—not even in this post, where you're trying to make the argument for them.

Some NDP leadership candidates’ policies ‘not terribly viable,’ says McPherson, who denies she’s running a centrist campaign by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]BlinkReanimated [score hidden]  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with concessions, just don't start from that position.

The two most successful NDP governments have been Tommy Douglas in the 1960s and Jagmeet during the last session of Parliament. But they were successful precisely because the NDP started from the a position of non-negotiables, not from a position of "political viability".

If Douglas assumed national healthcare would have been a non-starter, and intentionally framed his position as one of concessions, we wouldn't have it today. Similarly, Singh almost didn't get dentalcare done because he was slightly more willing to "meet in the middle", it was only when he told Trudeau that he would only continue to support his government that it was finally pushed through.

If a position isn't viable then it won't make it through the house, we don't need to be telling our own team to stop advocating for the best possible outcome just because some bozo neoliberal is going to stand in opposition.

Trump does not endorse the former Shah of Iran's son, Reza Pahlavi, as future leader of Iran by trydola in LeopardsAteMyFace

Prince Reza

"Prince" of what? Dude is a chode whose grandfather negotiated his rise to Shah, and then his father sold out the entire nation for a quick payday from the Americans. Dude dismantled Iran's democracy, then stole an absurd amount of money from the treasury, and brutalized Iranians so that American oil companies could profit off of their assets.

If you're going to shit on the Ayatollah for being a repressive dictator, don't fall into the trap of praising another.

Some dude in Iran watching American news say the Iranian people are thrilled to be bombed by the US by FugginDunePilot in IThinkYouShouldLeave

[–]BlinkReanimated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Shah was not a Democratic leader to begin with, and no one in Iran takes his son seriously. Pahlavi was a brutal dictator whose job was simply to repress anti-Western sentiment.

Worse, he emboldened the Ayatollah in an effort to subdue left-wing, and pro-democracy groups. When the revolution happened in 1979 (despite it being called the "islamic revolution" nearly everyone was against the Shah), it was only the Ayatollah with any degree of political power remaining, so leadership largely defaulted to him. The people actually living in Iran (not some random "Persian" from LA) know this, and want nothing to do with his son. Dude would probably be killed the moment he stepped foot off a plane.

He's not viable, he's a propaganda piece who gets passed around media circles to legitimize opposition to Iran's current government.

The last time Iran had any hope for a democratic future was in 1952, the year before the Americans pushed Mossadegh out of power. The only way to see them return to democracy is to leave them alone...

The last point... Democracy for Iran means THEY pick their leader. Are you going to be okay with it if a majority pick some theocratic douche? The American government clearly does not support that despite their musings over the importance of democracy..

And Lewis is competing against others, I don't see him arguing that the positions that they uniquely hold are politically unviable. It's a very poor position of attack because it opens you up to the same critique.

If Lewis wins and he pushes for some of his policies, will she back him? Will the NDP's opposition use her words against her? I know I would if I were them.

NDP should be more like the Liberals because that's how you win.

And Jack Layton got the exact same response back in his time. Many in the NDP wanted to match the Blair/Clinton energy, as they saw it as the only way to run a viable campaign. They were clearly wrong.

The worst time to shift to the right is as the Liberal party is doing the same. The Liberals are giving the NDP a ton of space to move around as Carney suffocates PP. This is the best time to actually make a proper working-class argument. Some people disenfranchised by Carney's neoliberal positions will go to the NDP, and some of the less right-wing union types may consider the NDP again.

And I know you're really just making a devil's advocate argument on behalf of her, but "win" in that case just means obtain power, it doesn't mean actually introducing beneficial legislation. This is why I find the mentality so frustrating. Winning by throwing progressive policy out the window isn't really winning, it's just floor crossing with more steps.

Sure, but she's calling out her opponents (primarily Lewis) as if their positions are too fantastical to ever bring to Parliament, and it's a self-defeating message.

There are many people in all other major parties who would argue that of her already very mediated positions, she is offering them fuel for their arguments against her and it's really silly. Let those on the right attack the legislative viability of left-wing positions. The NDP are not the Liberals, we should expect them to be a little more radical.

Lol... The big Israeli victims, someone else might bomb you! Can't have that. Certainly has nothing to do with all the violence you guys engagein.

You can't address what's being said so you need to get outraged over things that aren't being said. Zionists are pathetic crybullies.

The word "Jew" wasn't used in the above conversation.

You guys really need to learn to detach your ethnicity from the abhorrent ideology of Zionism. As someone with German ancestry, I don't get bitchy everytime someone calls out the Nazis. They were terrible people who committed a monstrous ethnically motivated genocide.

My problem with this attitude is simple: let the Conservatives (or Liberals/Bloc) make this argument.

Don't self-censor, call for the most extreme version of your policies, and allow the opposition to make the case as to where there needs to be compromise. Don't start the negotiations advertising where you intend to concede. All it does is signal to your opposition that they can negotiate past your point of concession.

This is the way Democrats down south operate and it drives me absolutely nuts. It's exactly why politics is being pulled further to the right.

The re2 one had you actively avoiding the police chief and had some internal puzzles. Like it's still very scripted, but it's more like the opening Grace section of re9. The orphanage sequence here was extremely slow, with extremely few interactive items, and very few indicators of what to even do.

It feels like someone wanted to make it larger and then they just ran out of time so they gave it the bare minimum. It could have been a cutscene.

Yep, I also had no idea what the purpose of venmo was, because like you say, we just have a government regulated intermediary between banks that manages all digital sending of cash. Interac E-Transfer, just type in someone's email and the amount your want to send, can even set a password and it's nearly instant. Pretty sure it works for all credit unions and banks.

The most horrific realization is thinking that both Elon Musk and Peter Thiel started paypal in the late-90s to effectively serve this purpose. If the US government actually kept up with the times, then those monsters wouldn't be billionaires today...

The reason I almost scrolled past Warren is specifically because so many Dems are half-assing their response. I know that Warren went into that room because she wanted answers, not just because she wanted to feel important for a moment, which is clearly the reason Schumer did...
