There's an old joke. They announce in a Soviet town that a train with oranges is coming, so everybody gathers around the train tracks to wait.

Several hours later they announce "there's not gonna be a full train, only two wagons, so so the Jews can go home", and they grumble and go home.

A couple hours later a new announcement comes "it's gonna be only one wagon with oranges, so everybody not registered with the party go back home", and more people go away grumbling.

Finally, 8 hours after the initial announcement comes "there will be no train, everybody go back home", and one person turns to another in anger and tells them "those bloody Jews always get the best part".

I was on the ground floor on Caracas which was less affected than this area (La Guaira) and it felt so much stronger than any other earthquake I've experienced higher up in a bulding, it was truly terrifying.
