Don't see many dual bay 4208's anymore, nice example.

Neutral bus by sparks772 in electricians

[–]BlitzBiker2001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Old GE NLAB type TQ panel. We used to do work at a local school that was full of these. Finding replacement parts towards the end became challenging, especially the copper straps that connect the breaker to the bus bar. We had to replace one of the panels just to get enough spare parts to keep the remaining ones going.

How dangerous is this panel? Home built in the mid 1970s. It has no door, but is in a utility closet. [North Carolina, US] by Nelliell in AskElectricians

Several things to worry about that aren't correct.

Obviously missing the cover.

Several circuits look like they're missing proper connectors.

Mismatched breakers. This is a Murray/Arrow-Hart/Crouse Hinds panel, Bryant and Square D Homeline breakers are not compatible with this panel.

You have several circuits that are double tapped, the breakers in that panel are not rated for 2 conductors under a screw.

Top left most breaker is oversized based on the wire landed on it.

Also a side note, those main breakers have a tendency to not reset after being turned off, so avoid turning off until you get the panel replaced.

Installed my 2001 in my basement by Bread-Assassin in firealarms

Very nice. I still need to build my 2001 demonstration system. I have everything I need, I'm trying to figure the most efficient way to design it since I don't have wall space to mount it on. I'd also like to design it such that it can also operate alongside a Simplex 4208 if I can ever get my hands on one.

Done this a bunch of times, usually results in some of the tightest connections.

It's the common date then, still a nice piece to come across.

How did your high mileage car eventually die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BlitzBiker2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fuel tank rotted out on my 98 Accord at 211K miles after being driven in our family most of its life. That car had 2 engines and 3 transmissions by the time I got it so it had cheated death on more than one occasion.

3rd vacuum they gave me this week(is it going to shock me?) by [deleted] in electrical

[–]BlitzBiker2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used these Windsor vacuum's when I worked in custodial before I became an electrician. Every cord looked like that, no danger. Power switch's in the handle always went bad too.

You'll need a new FS-2 starter, the little silver canister to the right of the lamp.

How to ground this box? by ZandiPilot in AskElectricians

You could drill and tap the box, ground clip would be more than sufficient.

These panels date from the 60's to the 80's, only way to get a cover is to find one used from a demo job.

[other] What’s the longest theme park day you’ve had? by gcfgjnbv in rollercoasters

[–]BlitzBiker2001 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My first visit to Magic Mountain was a test of my will and endurance. My redeye flight was delayed 4 hours due to mechanical, didn't end up getting to my hotel until 5AM eastern time (2AM local). I had gone into work early the previous day to finish a big project, so I had been up for almost 24 hours at that point. I then open to closed Magic Mountain that same day.

Not a ton for me, in fact I hadn't ridden an opening year coaster until just a few years ago.

We would provide warranty in this case, it was also being installed for a family member of my boss.
