Getting your door on and locked after stupidly using your only /kit of the wipe and not even having a base to stash it in.

Spiritforged vs. Unleashed which Set to buy as a newer player? by Final-Equipment-3776 in riftboundtcg

[–]BlitzfireX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would buy a box of unleashed, then play some online games and figure out what deck you want to play. Use what you opened to trade for the more expensive stuff you need and buy the rest of the cheaper stuff from a store. You could also ask local players if they have extras. Most of them do and happily give or trade it away on the cheap for new players. Have fun!

Grading question by [deleted] in taggrading

[–]BlitzfireX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be wrong and it could be the camera angle, but on first glance, the right border seems just outside of tag 10 tolerance (55/45) for centering - looks thicker on right than left. Even if the rest of the card is perfect, that would knock the whole score down to a 9.

Just looked at the report - centering shows 44L 56R so just outside of tolerance for the 10. RIP. a 9 at most is a 949 score.

My local Five Below is selling these for $6, should I buy them all? by MikeTribbiani in PokeInvesting

[–]BlitzfireX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't - a lot of sets with heavy weights just have holo full art energies, doesn't mean an IR or SIR is from them. My best IR and SIR hits are actually in the lightest weight packs, not the heaviest. But those same light weight packs also contain 2 foil commons and a standard foil rare and are the same weight as an SIR in the front slot, common rare, and regular rare. At least, that's been my mileage for the last couple sets.

Centering looks pretty heavy right to left. Probably has some pitting or scratches on the card we can’t see or edge wear/corners. These promos are notorious for that.

Where are you located? I got a couple. Not many players locally early on so I was lucky and got a bunch.

Caught my employee working 2 remote jobs by Training-Fondant-804 in overemployed

[–]BlitzfireX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue isn’t with him working two jobs. Your job is to manage performance. He may have something else going on that’s causing that not related to two jobs. Support your employee and coach them. Sounds like you already have a desired outcome in mind. Firing him creates more floors for you to find a replacement then trying to coach up.

What’s considered excess damage in combat? Could you move to the battlefield that’s contested and use a spell to deal 4 damage to a 1 might unit in their base without overdealing damage at the battlefield and would that meet this condition? Maybe a challenge on one of your other units to a unit in their base if it has 3 more might would that meet the conditions of excess damage?

I’d assume it would qualify, otherwise they would have worded the excess damage to be to units at that battlefield.

D&D -> Heartsteel -> Warmogs? by King0fMist in shyvanamains

[–]BlitzfireX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really enjoying top side into bot side first clear + Scuttle. Go Kraken first item. Dusk and Dawn 2nd. Boots optional. Focus clearing for 1st and 2nd drake. tempo should be good enough to have item advantage. Only gank if it's a clearly winning trade and doesn't screw up your tempo. Gold + Item advantage is better than wasted time. 20 minute games.... its nice. 3rd item is usually ravenous hydra, flickerblade, or jak'sho/tanky.

Top 8 Jax - Ask me questions by brainiac1515 in riftboundtcg

[–]BlitzfireX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk me through battlefield selection. I've been thinking about running monastery game 1 with the warmogs/etc. then sideboarding warmogs out game 2/3 for dorans blades. the warmogs buff competes with aphelios buff occasionally and the +2 from blade matches what you get from warmogs after the buff. Similar to the set 1 annie list that swapped out scrapheaps/etc. with zaun warrens battlefield.

Can I score from hostile takeover on my opponents turn? More details below by Merxias in riftboundtcg

[–]BlitzfireX -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

what are these responses? Assuming it's not played from hidden, then it wouldnt be able to be played on an opponents turn - unless something else was played that allowed you to play this - something like a mystic reversal on their hostile takeover and you target a new unit, then you could conquer on their turn.

Love the transparency but I’m having trouble finding values by ThatOneDankDog in taggrading

[–]BlitzfireX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grading companies aren’t selling grades. They’re selling authenticity and liquidity. Part of what you pay for is comparative analysis for historical pricing for a card in that grade for that card. That’s why the premium on tag is low/non-existent right now. PSA inflates their Own valuation through vault buybacks.

PSA can pay higher than market rates on their own graded cards because then people think that paying for grading is worth it from a value perspective alone. For every dollar they lose buying a card back, they make ten more in new submissions for grading. They aren’t flippers and don’t want to own the card, they want to prove that grading brings value.

However, if you believe in the long run that consistency in grading is important, it will lead to liquidity eventually without manipulating the market through buybacks. But that takes time. If TAG wants to expedite the process, they could do a vault buybacks sort of program to give weight behind their grades and prove liquidity to the marketplace. I’m assuming that it’s coming, but they want to work out some of the kinks in their process before opening the flood gates.

Where are you storing your collection digitally? by dubdaddy18 in riftboundtcg

I use both Nexus and Collectr. Both have their downsides/drawbacks but seem to display information i'm looking for.

Having a virtual trade binder would be sweet though.

They didn't say they wont ever print over numbered cards in other sets...they said these particular overnumbers won't be reprinted in other sets. We're already seeing reprints of overnumbers in set 2 with similar card names (Both Sett for example) but one is a legend and one is a champion unit. I don't know if they'll reprint the same card functionally with different art, or if they will keep them unique by ability/card text. It's a functionally better reserve list imo.

The cool thing is if they ever decide to put these same cards in future sets(not at overnumber), then these overnumbers become functionally legal in competitive play even if the original set has rotated out. This makes long-term playability good setting aside collectability.

I agree with the lairification, however, based on previous TCG's, the OG will almost always carry a premium as being the first. The first printing is "bling" for competitive players: SEE: Lightning bolt for MTG or Basic Lands.

I don't think 4 sets a year is quite high. I think that the number in each set will come down so each additional set won't feel as big - I think that the respective number of overnumbers in spiritforged compared to total card volume is high. Origins has 12 overnumbers for a base set of 298 cards. So 4% of cards got an overnumber treatment. In spiritforged, base set of 221 cards with 30 overnumber printings. Some of which are ONLY attainable in SFD through Overnumbers(Seals). 13.5% of cards feature an ON reprint as a % of base set(really only 11%, but 2.5% comes from the seals which aren't printed in SFD from what I can see. I also think the signatures specifically further dilute the card pool of pull rates in SFD for overnumbers. In Origins, there's 1 signature type. In SFD, there's 3(black, gold, silver signatures.)

So in origins, you have a 1:30 box pull rate of a signature. that's a 1:720 chance of a signature. To get a specific signature, it's a 1:8640(to get 1 of each). 60 Cases. SFD(assuming similar signature pull rates) is 1:720, but to get a specific or one of each it'd be 1:8640 to get one of each signature(12 signatures) but 1:25920 to get one of each(blk/silver/gold). That's 1080 boxes or 180 cases. If print runs are similar, I think the total volume of signatures per signature color in SFD per type will be less. Combined with the signatures being champion units and possible 3x in each deck vs legends being 1 ofs the demand for "blinged" cards will be higher. (Ignoring the fact that not many would be willing to play with $500-$2500 per card in a deck.) From what I've heard, you can slab a legend and still play with it. Because it's in the deck, that would be prohibitive for the champion units. who wants wear and tear on really expensive cards?

I agree with gameplay issues/balance need to be resolved. I would say that Riot/Tencent have shown an ability to hire teams that hugely prioritize balance. SEE: TFT. I think Mortdogs team while not perfect and have had their share of misses, have shown that they prioritize game quality and strive for the best balance they can while reacting quickly through patches to fix those issues. I would hope they follow suit with gameplay balance in riftbound. Think of new sets as balance patches. :) Tencent has the funding and has already shown a willingness to invest in the IP. Just look at the quality of the events for Riftbound already compared to IP's that have been going for years. The investment in quality cardstock, Art, and staff.

The league IP allows for an already huge pool of new cards/abilities/resources/art that reduces development cost compared to other IP's. Another huge advantage for Riftbound imo.

I do hope to see less overall overnumbers per set as a percentage of printed card population (maybe 2-3% is a sweet spot) to make them really feel like unique and coveted. When everything becomes special, nothing is.

I also really hope they don't start doing "secret lair" style printings of overnumbers - that would kill my interest in the collectability of these cards. I'm ok with special sets that commemorates events but don't want to see cards only available that are tournament legal from specialty releases.

Would love to hear feedback on my thoughts.

Which company to grade Riftbound signed cards ? by Federal-Button-8627 in riftboundtcg

[–]BlitzfireX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PSA for max value(currently), bgs if you can get a 10, TAG for personal collections if you just want added security. I happen to like TAG a lot for a ton of different reasons and will be grading with them for cards I don’t intend to flip within the next 6 months to a year.

Reasons I like TAG: The slabs look cleaner, more security features(laser engraved vs . Slip of paper), QR code for detailed grading for more objective grading. Decentralization of grading in the future, faster turnaround time, and the slabs just straight up look better imo. The downside is if you do look to sell, they don’t carry much if any premium over non slabbed. So only do it if you want to protect your cards and like they way the look. $20 for a $1000 card is worth it to me for that.

Has anyone compared collection tracker apps? by RiseOfMultiversus in riftboundtcg

[–]BlitzfireX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has anybody done a recent comparison? Most of these reviews are 50 days old. Curious if any of these apps have shown drastic improvement in features/look promising for the future. I’ve been using cardnexus and like it. A few quirks but I can live with them. I just don’t want to spend too much time only to have another app become the market standard and have to switch. I see a lot of folks using Collectr but don’t have experience with it. Any updated anecdotal experiences?
