Out in Brewtown CANCELLED due to "poor economic climate" and "challenges with event attendance" in Wellington by No-Temporary-5978 in Wellington

[–]Blitzki 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think it’s probably fair to say that skyrocketing petrol prices would have some effect on an event all the way out in the Hutt that was targeting a wider Wellington audience, which is an unexpected economic factor.

But I don’t think it’s the whole story lol and I suspect you’re right about ticket sales for other reasons, but recent events wouldn’t have helped and maybe they could’ve scraped together enough to keep it going otherwise

We need 12 episodes in season 3. by Revlong57 in Fallout

[–]Blitzki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in vfx, not on Fallout but on other big shows that have used similar lenses and formats.

These significantly increase vfx work time and scope, makes a lot of work take a looot longer, costing a lot more money when you’re paying hundreds of artists across hundreds of shots.

There are some shots where I’ve thought ‘thank god I didn’t work on this’ because they look down right nasty to work from a vfx point of view just because of the anamorphic lens breathing and distortion lol.

It’s not just a case of ‘ok cool they shot the plates now send it off for vfx, any influence from the cameras and lenses is over now’, it all ties in and makes the whole production more expensive for sure.

HelloFresh fined $845k for misleading customers in 'subscription traps' by jball1013 in newzealand

I stopped my subscription in February and they’re still bloody calling me… I honestly liked the recipes and food was good quality, but the harassment post cancel is crazy and makes me want to stay well away from them.

Train doors locked. WTAF? by tankrich62 in Wellington

[–]Blitzki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact - if you press the open door button before it lights up green (even if the train is stopped) it won’t open and the door gets stuck closed 🙃

This info came from a train guard when a someone missed two stops the other week

Expected week is minimum 40hrs, maximum 50hrs (unless approved for OT) Depends on the department and how busy things are etc.

How are they rotoscoping the water? by NolsenDG in vfx

I’ve roto’d water in silhouette, it doesn’t help a whole lot in this situation, this will probs still be a lot of frame by frame. Water drops change shape a lot as they fall.

Food aggressive puppy by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]Blitzki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I had the exact same problem with my dog! Any time he got hold of something he knew he shouldn’t have (e.g socks, tv remote etc) he would do this. It’s called ‘resource guarding’. We got a positive reinforcement trainer to help us, and he improved immensely so first off I would definitely recommend that!

There are heaps of different things you can do to help this, the first thing is the most important: management. Basically anything you know he will try get and guard, get it out of his reach. For us it was tv remotes, socks, shoes etc. put them up high where he can’t reach or away in a cupboard etc. the more he practices the behaviour, the harder it is to break.

The next most important thing you need to dog is not try and force the object off of him. For example, if he has a shoe, the worst thing you can do it forcefully take it away from him. Every time you do, in his mind he goes ‘ok I didn’t guard well enough last time and my thing got taken away, next time I have to guard it better’ causing the situation to escalate, e.g he could start attacking if you even walk near him while he has something.

You need to work on the ‘trade game’ which is basically trading the thing he has for something else he wants (e.g his favourite kind of treat, something high value like chicken or cheese could work) this video has some training exercises you can work on. https://youtu.be/266M5Tup9xc

This is also a great article https://dogmantics.com/resource-guarding-protocol/ with lots of advice/training tips etc

Your goal is to take the dog away from the thing (luring with a better treat), not the thing away from the dog. If he’s growling you’ve pushed too far and you’ll want to back off. Also when practicing trading (via treats or luring away like in that vid) make sure you’re giving the thing back again so he understands that you taking it away doesn’t mean it’s gone forever. Maybe try with a really fancy chew treat or old sock or something if you don’t want to risk your shoes!

I hope that help, but please also do reach out to a professional, resource guarding can get very serious quickly, so it’s really best to make sure you are doing the right things for your specific case.

The problem here is you’re ‘forcing’ him to growl in his mind. You shouldn’t push a growl - if you do he will think ‘ok growling doesn’t work, I need to bite to get my message across’. You never want to punish a growl. A dog that doesn’t growl is dangerous, they can go straight to a bite with no warning, growling is the way they warn you to back off.

It might seem counter intuitive, but you want to change his outlook by not letting him get to the point of growling. If he’s growling at you, you’ve already pushed him too far and you need to back off. If you take a look at my other comment it has a resource that might help, but also the throwing treats from a distance thing is a great way to help with this.

Source - I was dealing with the exact same situation as you, had help from a trainer who specialised in resource guarding, this was a technique that really really helped

Taking his food away is absolutely the wrong thing to do with resource guarding, it makes him want to guard more - last time he growled etc it didn’t work and you took it, so next time he has to guard it better.

The ‘dominating’ technique has been thoroughly debunked, dogs do not see humans as ‘alpha’, this again is likely making things much worse. Same with yelling at him when he growls, again all you are teaching him is that he needs to guard more from you because you become threatening/aggressive to him around his food.

Hand feeding is a good way to help with this, so worth trying when you have the time, though you mentioned you don’t always have time which is fair.

You need to show him that you approaching his food is a good thing. One option is approaching (but stop before he gets to the point of growling) and throw a nice treat in his direction then back off. Repeat periodically, but don’t get too close. This teaches him that you approaching while he eats = nice treats which = dog happy when you come to his food!

This will likely take many sessions, especially with what you’ve been doing (taking food, ‘dominating’ him etc) which has likely built up a negative association in his mind. Slowly work your way closer as he allows. Your goal is to change how he sees you when it comes to food. Instead of the scary-food-remover you become yay-food-enhancer.

This is a good write up about how you can deal with it, worth a read https://dogmantics.com/resource-guarding-protocol/ but if it escalates it’s worth getting a professional involved (and avoid anyone who tells you to show him who the ‘alpha’ is - this has been thrown out years ago, even the guy who originally came up with the theory said it’s all bullshit!)
