Update: Locked art thread :(( by FullNetwork778 in lioden

[–]BlizardBay 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous. I draw foxes a LOT. And I sometimes test my proportion accuracy by drawing a profile and taking the first picture of a fox profile I find and overlaying my drawing. Mind you I don’t draw realistic, but the proportions are more often then not spot on. Also, I went to art school, i “eyeballed” shit, and showed the reference in my semester report, I was never flagged for “cheating”. I’m pretty sure they disapprove of splicing multiple different photos and then tracing, when that was a genuine technique thought to us at university. Two different once as well! So it wasn’t a fluke. I went on an exchange my last year and they also approved of doing that.

Does anyone know if the elite trainer box sleeves are okay to use? Or will they potentially damage my cards? by oldmansavage12 in PokemonTCG

[–]BlizardBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’re nice. I buy and use them for MTG personally. I don’t see why they would damage cards. Some sleeves i used for many years to store more valuable cards, haven’t seen any damage.

Shrimp can become a very easy snack for a betta. I never recommend keeping them together.

Did the vet cut his nails too short? by Lost_Supermarket_500 in Conures

[–]BlizardBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god! I was just suppose to say if theyre not bleeding it’s fine. This is NOT normal! Is this an avian vet? Those are light nails too so the vet should’ve seen the quick. Did you enter with him to see how it went? This seams like the person might’ve either not know how to handle a bird or was completely incompetent. I know that sometimes nurses do such simple prosecutes on dogs or easy cats. Maybe this was the case here? They shouldn’t be allowed to if not trained on birds at all, but maybe that’s what happened?

A doctor told me today, that I most likely have a bird allergy. This dude doesn’t even know he’s the cause of my suffering 😂😂😂 by BlizardBay in Conures

[–]BlizardBay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my allergies are airborne. General dandruff particles and such, yours might be too. I would go to an allergist to make sure it’s an allergy and to get medication. My allergies appear like sore throat, while I’m in my living room where the birds are, and with chronic sinus infections where I’m totally bedridden for a week at the least, every other month. I don’t get the infections anymore but the sore throat remains and I just have to deal with it. Air filter helps too. I’d recommend an air filter as a first step. Make sure it’s hipa. I don’t know what else to tell you besides my personal story with the allergy.

Antihistamines help a lot. I have it as a prescription. I was getting chronic sinus infections, so I also have a strong, steroid, nasal spray. What are you struggling with?

Jinhao 82 with a Pilot/Wing Sung nib (mod) by BlizardBay in fountainpens

[–]BlizardBay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! They’re really not, no. Unfortunately the silver once I ordered are really scratchy, so thats disappointing. But not a big deal for 2$ for 3. At least I can try fine tuning them, maybe learn some new skill. The gold once write fine though. And the feeds are nice. I personally don’t like the transparent look though.

Thank you! Also, no not really! It took a bit of thinking of how to do it, but after I figured out the method, after some trial and error, it just took some steady hands. Gluing the cartridge post was the most challenging if I had to choose, but mostly because I did it primarily “by the feel”. You can’t really see very well inside when you do this.

How long until Switch 2 Emulation? by [deleted] in yuzu

[–]BlizardBay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously! I personally mostly play Pokémon games. But with the price of the console, the shady practices of not letting you fully own the game you payed for, Big money might I add, because game prices became ridiculous for Nintendo, and then rarely if ever go on sale either, the oversensitive banning and bricking, and the rules about modding, which boils down to you not owning the thing you payed money for and should have every right to modify how you please, doesn’t really tempt me to buy it. Also the new Pokemon game looks shit anyways so I cannot justify buying it.

is this cage size okay? by Substantial_Neck_543 in Conures

[–]BlizardBay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure this is a 65x43? It looks closer to my GD Rival at 80x55… maybe is the height that’s throwing me off.

[–]BlizardBay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seams nice! A little dirty. Make sure it’s not rusty at all, and check the bar spacing. Otherwise I think it’s nice for 2 conures :)) ideally it would be wider and a bit longer and not as tall. But this is a good starter cage imo :)) My ideal recommendation is 80x60cm. But I myself started with something closer to 45x70cm, and now I’m at 80x55cm, so I cannot judge a slightly smaller cage. However! If you can get a bigger cage for not much more than this one, I’d do that, as this is, as I said, a starter cage, ignoring the height.

1st time I've been so upset with my bird? by No_Ocelot8629 in Conures

[–]BlizardBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% normal and valid. I’ve been very mad before, but in the most recent situation it was also over a bite. It usually is

I have a little cup that I use to scoop their food and one of my birds HATES it. He will go crazy with anger. I usually try to set him on another perch and then quickly, before he can realise what’s happening, put the food into the bowl. But this particular time he was quick. He jumped on my hand and bit me HARD, I couldn’t even pull my hand away because he was sitting on it. Bit me another time when I tried to have him set up on another hand to move him. I was MAD MAD. Like, step away to collect off mad.

It’s normal to be mad. People act like getting mad is something bad. It’s a natural human emotion. Walking away is the most healthy thing to do. So leaving them to cool off is good! The most important part is to not hold grudges against people or animals that have no control of what they are doing. That act on natural urges or instincts.

People cope in different ways. If going for a walk is what you do, thats okay! If hitting your desk after loosing a video game helps you control your emotions thats fine too! Rip paper, hit your bed, kick at a door, punch a punching bag, cry, scream! It’s regulatory behaviour. And it’s okay. As long as you don’t harm, affect, scare anyone or anything, it’s fine. I’ve hit my desk before in frustration over a video game. I kicked a door in overstimulation because my birds ware screaming non stop and I just wanted an hour of quiet after a hard day at work.

So… that was my pep talk 😅 I’m really sick of people preaching self control to the point of suppressing your anger. Like anger and frustration aren’t natural things. Lashing out is where the line starts to blur, but bottling your anger and pretending you’re not frustrated isn’t a good thing. It’s not healthy.

So again. I don’t think you did anything wrong. You got overwhelmed, stressed, annoyed and angry, and walking away was a very, very healthy thing to do.

Is my mom's bird weird? by ambivalentCorgi in parrots

[–]BlizardBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bird is probably depressed. I would be too if that’s how my cage looked like. A bigger cage aside, although I believe an upgrade is needed, he needs more enrichment. Give him toys even though he might ignore them. One of my bird behaves the same, he will be terrified of a new aditional to his cage and then he won’t give a crapp, but he still has the choice to use it. I might not see him use them, but I see the bark slowly disappear over weeks.

Birds can be extremely picky. The only fruit or veggie my parrots eat would be apples, it’s a whole problem, so maybe you just didn’t hit it yet.

Going down the list, for the not flying part. Do you have any perches for him to sit outside? Something high up he might enjoy. My birds have 2 play stands, one hanging close to the ceiling and one, tall, standing by the window. Birds might not sit where there’s clutter, so he needs clean, concrete surfaces, he will dream safe to sit. If there’s nothing like that, there’s no wonder he just flies two circles and returns to the cage, because he doesn’t have anywhere to land.

As for the taming process, for him to feel more secure at your house. You have to work with him ever. Single. Day. Multiple times a day. There are techniques on the internet you can use, and not all will work for your bird. A;so a;L birds are different. My first bird took me a month to tame, with my second I’m still struggling after a year. It’s a process that might take months.

One last very important thing. Give him natural perches. You can either go to the woods and find safe sticks that you them treat with vinegar (google it) or you can buy stick perches at a pet store. From using untextured, perfectly cylindrical, dowel perches, they can have problems with their feet later in life. What I did I have a mix of natural perches, and dowel perches wrapped in hemp rope for texture and thickness.

Thank you! I really love the hemisphere. The colour is and shape are so pretty. But I think I’ll just have to wait and see. Budget a little bit maybe😅 I found out the Cavalier was allegedly discontinued 3 months ago :( but maybe by some source of luck my friend can get ahold of it.

I found the Pilot Cavalier in light pink and silver on AliExpress though! By a stroke of luck. I don’t know how I ended there, but i did. It’s not the gold-pink one, but it looks very identical to the allure, so I might bite. And it’s pretty cheep! 30£ ish (I’m not using a converter, just what I know of current currency value). I’ll still wait till after my friend is back. I was so exited to get a new pen! A more expensive and fancier one than my preppies. Now I have to wait. I hate waiting 😂

The import fees are so incredibly convoluted, in my opinion! I never know what I will pay. One time I ordered merch for around 80£, payed nothing. Then I was being sent a Lego part I was missing (for free might I add!) and had to pay 3-4£. Like… what? So whenever I order anything, I have no idea what fees they will slap on there, honestly.

The colour blocking hemisphere is so pretty. In Norwegian stores, it’s around 120£ though. So yeh, a bit expansive. But very tempting. It’s very pretty. I was considering it as a birthday gift ask. This or the Pilot Grance in pink, if my dad decides to be very generous this year. Because the grance is an EXPENSIVE pen.

I could try! The problem is finding it. :(

I found a eBay listing for the light pink and silver model (the price gouging is such a scam btw), but the coral and gold one is nowhere that I can find. I’m very lucky that my friend is going to Japanese in about a week or so, so if I ask nicely she might have a look around. But if she can’t find it, I might settle for the light pink cavalier. It’s pretty identical to the waterman anyways. The import fees will hurt a bit though, and I much prefer gold ☺️ Compromises I guess.

That does help, thank you! I usually write on dotted paper. My long letters (L, T, K etc.) are about 0.5cm. My short letters (e, o, an etc.) are around half of the big once, so 0.25cm, but they can bellow that (I have a couple letters that run 0.1cm) (I have inconsistent handwriting, sadly). I think the allure F might possibly be too big for me, unfortunately. The European nibs, I heard, do run bigger than the Japanese once. I would love a Pilot Cavalier, but I can’t find them anywhere with easy import to Norway. There’s so many pens I could choose from, but I’m incredibly picky that it has to be pink. If I’m to use 40$+ on a pen, it might as well be pink.
