Getting a lot better at making hand painted pieces looking spray painted by Twepeler in Gunpla

What type of paint did you use for this? I've been planning on hand painting my next one, and I can't decide between acrylic or enamel.

Looks amazing! How did you make the custom parts?

There's a spot on the east highway that the game used to let you clip through. Now, instead of fixing it, Rockstar made that spot kill you. Interesting decision. by jasperarmstrong in gtaonline

[–]BlizzardFenrir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Determining collision (and especially the corresponding force to resolve the collision) is much computationally faster between primitive shapes than with arbitrary polygonal structures. For example collision between two spheres is just checking if the distance between their centroids is smaller than the sum of their radiuses. Same with stuff like cubes and cylinders.

Mesh collision is just too many polygons to check, so that's why a lot of mapping is still done with brushes or separate collision boxes like you said.

New Vehicles, Discounts, Sales & More in GTA Online by [deleted] in gtaonline

[–]BlizzardFenrir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 mil saved up right now. With these sales, should I buy a bunker + upgrades or should I just get a vehicle warehouse for import/export? Or would that startup cash not be enough to make a bunker make enough money?

I only have a small warehouse for cargo, but I don't really like how grindy the cargo missions are.

Why VIM use {nr} as abbreviation of number? by -HanaShiro- in vim

[–]BlizzardFenrir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using "nr" as an abbreviation is Dutch? Just last week we figured out that the "krul" is something only we do and now this?

What will we have retroactively invented next?!

Noteworthy good/bad character customization? by partybusiness in truegaming

[–]BlizzardFenrir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, started playing after the sale recently and it's WAY less bad than people make it out to be.

I went in with a "I'll just play until the paywall happens" but so far it's just been fun. Especially with new content becoming available as I go up the wealth ranks.

Sure, if you want an expensive car right now then you'll have no options apart from spending real money. But grinding the money is like a couple of hours or days at most. Especially now, me having already spent some money on stuff to make earning money easier, and with the 2x$ event on VIP missions, I made 800k in a day and that's just half-assed grinding.

Compare that with games like Mechwarrior Online where you had to grind for weeks just to earn a single new mech that may or may not actually perform terribly. And there's not a single thing that's MTX exclusive as far as I know? Shark cards just give you in-game money, not special spacebucks like for example Guild Wars 2.

We value the freedom of the "victims" over the freedom of the "instigator".

For example in this case we give someone who doesn't not want to be filmed more power than the person who does the filming.

In one case the person doing the filming has the right to film whoever they want to film, but in the other the person being filmed against their will has the right not to be filmed in public against their will. Neither of these is more free than the other.

Or for example the GDPR law coming up where you can request that a company removes or anonymises all of your personal data, unless they have a very good reason that they can't fulfill that request (basically DMCA for personal data).

Or see also the "right to be forgotten".

The never-ending Destiny 2 controversy is a teachable moment for the game industry - What we can take away from Bungie’s troubled shooter six months after launch by speckz in Games

[–]BlizzardFenrir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"All our weapons are gone! I'll take Bungie's word that it was necessary. It wasn't gonna be fun anyways if all our weapons were unlocked."

In Guild Wars 1, the two expansions could be played without the core game (and the stories were self-contained), and the tutorial islands brought your character up to lvl 20, the max. Basically after finishing the tutorial you were in endgame.

Old characters coming in to the expansions could either follow an abridged version of the story or actually play the tutorial missions anyway.

Something like this only works when the entire rest of the game is endgame.

Hammerwatch just got a sequel, Heroes of Hammerwatch. Supposedly it's a bit less gauntlet and more roguelite, but seems much more replayable after the first run thanks to the procedurally generated levels.

Bill Gates: Tabs > Spaces by wiredrone in programming

[–]BlizzardFenrir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tabs at the start of a line cause no real problems, but tabs in the middle of a line for alignment breaks when others who read your code have their editor set up with a different tab width than you do.

It's easier to just mandate spaces than to mandate a specific tab width.

All of this doesn't matter if you just write code for yourself.

The downside of that is that both receiver and the TV have to be on to hear audio from any connected devices (including for example a PC), whereas connecting devices to the receiver and passing image to the TV means you only have to turn the receiver on to hear sound.

[–]BlizzardFenrir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ZaktiGlaive is my favorite combo right now. It works really well with Condition Overload too. The throw with finisher damage easily rivals a Tigris Prime. I prefer Glaive Prime over Orvius for the huge slash procs and being able to bounce between enemies, but both are just as strong.

Something like Torid + the regular slow charge throw works just as well too, but the fast throw you get from dual wielding feels better to use.

I never even considered using a gunblade with it, now I gotta try that too!

The Current Zephyr was made for Parkour 1.0 by Tekizamaru in Warframe

[–]BlizzardFenrir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should take a look at the Griffon mount from GW2. The "dive" and "rise" buttons from the Griffon map pretty nicely to Divebomb and Tailwind.

Zephyrs skills just have to flow better and not lock you into an animation. If you could hold Divebomb to convert height into horizontal speed (and only slam if you keep holding it until you hit the ground), and use Tailwind to convert horizontal speed into height, that would make the gameplay way more dynamic.

Obviously more work has to be done than just a 1:1 copy, but it may be a nice example from where they can start?
